What's Your Horizon Origin Story?

yes, similar here, found I had enough to get a decent one with very low lag (rtings.com for that!) and a good soundbar - blimey, the opening sequence to “Blade Runner” is something else even at home

factoid that I believe is true is the skyline with flames was inspired by Scott’s memories of the Stockton-on-Tees skyline (he’s local to that area)

I don’t want to go too much off topic, but Starfield is the first game in a long time that’s really grabbed me.

I’ve even neglected the festival playlist this weekend. I’ll get to it eventually but I’m really digging Starfield.

Very boring and simple for me, I’d played FM for a few years before FH1 was announced and I was instantly interested having lost interest in NFS at that point.

Pre ordered the LCE and even got taken out of high school early to go and get it on the Friday.

I started playing forza during covid which was horizon 4 which I found on the xbox game pass and it was a different racing experience compared to nfs and grand turismo which I can look inside the vehicle and lift up the hood on some of them which I can see the engine and open the trunk which is cool and speed right past traffic and do a lot of racing experience winning different styles of racing which is cool like dirt racing, and cross country which is cool.

My forza history started with FM1. Loved the little Autocross track in that game. Would love to see that little track make a return. Played FM2 and FM4 then broke away from the games for a long time. Didn’t get back into it until FM7. Got interested in the YouTube stuff about FH3, it looked interesting but I didn’t want to shell out the bucks and it wasn’t getting any sales prices. Got FH2 when it went free on gold. It was a great game, so sad PGG didn’t follow through with the FH2 theme. I also back stepped to FM6 when it went on sale for seven bucks. Just for a couple of cars that weren’t available in 7. And for a little variation of the theme. I made the jump into FH4 on the presales gimmick going all in for the full meal deal, vip and all. It was fairly worth it, the game wasn’t all bad but it wasn’t what it could have been either. When I started FH5 I started with gamepass and none of the addons. Which with 5, it was a smart move. I’ll never pre-order or go all in with another Forza title.

So my Horizon story started in Motorsport 1, the progression:

FM1, FM2, FM4, FM7, FH2, FM6, FH4, FH5.

I only came to Forza Horizon in the mid life cycle of FH3 after I found out in a newsletter that the game was based in Australia. Being an Aussie, it was my patriotic duty to check it out. Been hooked since and definitely miss some of the rare Aussie cars that was in FH3, hopefully they come back. I have since got all the back catalogue of the FH series and played them all.

total accident. bought an Xbox one with dev kit to create a retroarch system. it came with Forza 4. I tried it just to see how it looked on my 4k tv, and never looked back. first festival playlist was C8 Corvette. tuning was what really grabbed me though, never ever thought I’d have 400 followers and 300k tune downloads, still kind of a noob.

I joined up with the Horizon community back when Horizon 3 came out for the Xbox One. Before that, my first foray into the Forza community as a whole was with FM4. Then I got the Xbox One S bundled with the Hot Wheels Expansion pack and I became hooked from there.

hey everyone, i like to play forza horizon because there aren’t many racing games that have an open world to drive in, I’m into cruse roll races and racing in general. check out this video of me drag testing my car.

I came because of pretty singer, stayed for the songs :upside_down_face:

I had longer break from racing games. Basically for me last NFS was U2. Later played for some time Live for speed, but I was playing it on mouse. It was still fun, but not the greatest. Had some fun with DIRT games. Sometime in between I’ve bought PS2 and XBOX to try GT4 and FM4.
And some time later I saw some youtuber playing FH3 and there was that thing called “wheelspins”. My inner gambler thought it is great. Bought FH3, but some basic version and there was no wheelspins. I liked the game, but hated xbox controller and that I have to pay to play online. So was pretty happy when I heard that FH4 is coming to PC
FH4 - 134 days played, FH5 - 93 days played and counting. End of story.

Pretty boring because linear history on my part.
Played Gran Turismo 1-3 as a kid and first more serious racing games.
But I always disliked the Playstation controller. So when the Xbox launched with its diagonal sticks I switched to it - even though the original controller had the size of a house.
Project Gotham Racing 1 + 2 were fantastic and when Forza launched I immediatly bought it. Stayed with the series up to FM4 which I still consider the best Motorsport.
Having ForzaTech in an open world sounded like a dream and Horizon 1 delivered as expected.
Took a break during Horizon 2/FM5/6 due to getting my B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees.

Returned with FM7 and Horizon 3 and stayed. Hopefully the new Motorsport can reignite the series while PG will provide Horizon the badly needed structural overhaul. Another Horizon that’s basically 4 & 5 wouldn’t catch my immediate interest.

Sliding off topic for a bit, I always found it weird how galvanizing the controllers between Xbox and PlayStation are. I’m hardly innocent either, I’m a hardcore PlayStation controller for life guy. I love that on PC I can use a DuelSense to play FH.

One of my best friends is hardcore in the opposite camp.

I think it has less to do with the branding and more to do with staggered vs parallel joysticks. I’ve heard a theory that it’s really about how you like to control the stick. People who like to hook their thumb in tend to prefer parallel, whereas people who flat thumb the stick tend to prefer staggered. Thoughts?

Even my “non-racing” controller, the 8bitDo sn30 pro, has parallel sticks. I do tend to gravitate towards them. Also I love collecting peripherals like controllers. It was a bit of a problem until I decided it was a hobby. I do thoroughly enjoy collecting, experimenting, and thinking about the various ways we interact with computers and video games.

It all started on Christmas of 93 with a PlayStation and Ridge Racer… played the OG Forza on the Xbox, but at the time I really liked Gran Turismo more but fell in love with FM2.

On switch you can use Xbox, PlayStation, or switch controllers!

Used an Xbox controller my whole time gaming. I have no plans of changing that. My one complaint is the rubber part of the left thumbstick came off, but in their defense, that was 6 years of playing FH3 and 4 profusely.

Apologies in advance for the novella, but here goes:

Up until recent years, I was more of a PlayStation person and played the snot out of GT 1-6. As for Horizon, I’ve been playing pretty much since the start. Back when I was working part time temp jobs and they didn’t need me on a day and I’d already driven an hour to town, I’ d nip in to my local gaming center. They had PCs and Xbox 36os, and I wanted something other than an MMO or an FPS to play. They had Forza Motorsport 4, and I enjoyed that. I have my own 360 and my own copy now, so I still enjoy on occasion, as well as FMs 2 and 3.

And then Horizon 1 came out. I dug the less-sim vibe the music, and the location. As somebody who used to mess around with Kubelwagens at Indy on GT for fun, it was kind of up my alley. They eventually got XB1s, so I jumped to FM5 and Horizon 2… which I have the least play time with because I worked more. Then FH3 came out and I got my own XB1… for about a year before I needed to sell it before I moved (LONG story that I don’t want to get into here). Then I saw FH 4 was gonna be on PC… AND run on my semi-potato. Got that and got Game Pass while I was at it.

And now we’re here with FH5. Is everything with the game and series perfect? No. Am I still enjoying myself? Of course.

Actually, I think the only FH I’ve never touched was the 360 ‘version’ of FH2…

I actually cracked the left trigger casing on my official XB1 controller from braking too vigorously in FH4. It still worked, but joystick drift took its toll…

That’s kind of impressive. You’re supposed to brake the car, not break the controller!

I’ve never had any issues between the two different controllers S far as usage. However, I’ve never had a PS controller fail. Whereas I’ve never had an xbox controller last for the life of a console. And what’s funny, the xbox controller feels more solid, more like a tool and the PS controller feels more like a toy. At least PS1 and 2 controllers.

Well, my first tango with Forza in general was Motorsport 4 when I was 12. My dad was actually the one who bought it, and I ended up playing it more than he did. Later that year, Horizon 1 caught my eye, and I later got it as a 13th Birthday gift. I enjoyed it a lot at the time, considering it to be a smaller, but more polished Test Drive Unlimited 2. However, my interest in cars and video games both decreased when I was 14, so other than playing the 360 port of Horizon 2 briefly in high school, I pretty much lost contact with Forza until my interest in cars and video games picked up again after I turned 19. I bought an Xbox One S on Black Friday, got both Horizon 3 and 4, and just started working my way through the series again. Throughout both Horizon 4 and 5’s live services, I’ve gone back further into the series as a whole, playing the Xbox One port of Horizon 2 finally, replaying Horizon 1, replaying Motorsport 4, and getting my hands on Motorsports 2, 3, and 7. I could write more, but my fingers are getting tired.
