More or less. Chrysler tried to spin SRT division off into a separate brand in 2012, and the Viper was apportioned to it to act as the flagship. It was widely speculated that the long-term plan was to phase-out Dodge, but SRT was folded back into Dodge in mid-2014, a few months before FCA was established. Not sure why exactly. If I had to guess, someone finally figured it absurd to grow yet another brand in a consortium of damaged and neglected brands, especially when its purpose overlapped that of another that was already established.
This story makes sense I guess but still It has to be the most stupid move ever. EVERYONE knows that Viper IS Dodge. Thanks for the input. Great car BTW. Good looking and great performance
Dodge ended production of the Viper in 2009 or 2010 because Chrysler was having money problems. I heard they were trying to sell the Viper line to another maker. Chrysler brought the Viper back in 13, but not under the Dodge badge. For 13 and 14, it was the SRT Viper, not Dodge Viper. I’m not sure why. Maybe it had something to do with small production. Chrysler eliminated the SRT badge in 2015, I think, and the Viper line came back to Dodge. I think the game has this right, and the weirdness of it all is on Chrysler.
