What QoL improvements does rivals need?

all of this, everything !

Dear PGG,

Millions upon millions of Horizon users have united in this thread and unanimously agreed that rivals needs a few small but impactful QoL updates.

If you would be so kind to implement these updates later today ready for us tomorrow that would be greatly appreciated.

Yours sincerely,
Mr Optimistic

Don’t stop believin’ mate

Reckon I should “hold onto that feelin”?

I would also like weekly rival competitions to be added in game. The format being 1 random street, road, mixed and cc track is choosen. You can compete in any or all 4 tracks in any car class. There is a separate leaderboard for each track/type/class. At the end of the week you’re rewarded with credits, accolades etc based on your placement.

Possibly extend this further and copy Jezzas format where car restrictions are in place but maybe restrict on car manufacturer or car type. Again all random and automated and at least 1 competition per track type.

Definitely flying starts, especially on Sprints. Project Gotham Racing 4 also had the nice ability to race against more than one ghost at a time. I think it’d be great if you could select three or more times to be beaten simultaneously than beating only one ghost at a time and having to reload the whole event again.

And add split times, to your best previous time, the ghost you are racing, the WR and then one other of your choice I would say.

There’s no need for flying starts on sprints as it’s the same for everyone, plus it tests the launch of the cars and slightly mitigates the advantage RWD cars have. Flying starts on circuits, just to avoid the somewhat pointless first lap would be sensible.

Understandable, but I mostly suggested it for Sprints because I noticed other players, likely cheaters, were starting further back than my starting position on Sprints, so they were getting faster times. I even tried the reversing before starting trick as a countermeasure, but the course timer had already started before I even rolled off the starting line. I was only merely suggesting rolling starts to crackdown on this kind of behavior/cheating.

@Runoff1999 That usually means their time has been set during an actual race instead of during a Rivals session. In a race you’ll start further back in the grid depending on your difficulty setting.

That explains a lot. Didn’t know the games kept track of our laps that way still.

Slightly on/off topic. Has anyone encountered a bug in HW rivals where if you dirty one lap then all subsequent laps are dirty? This happened to me last night when I set a new world record for a given car and it didn’t register. I just tried again now and same thing. I do a full lap without touching anything and it remains dirty. I go past finish line without touching anything and it’s again still dirty. I mean technically my number plate does say “dirty” but it has a different meaning…

Did it again… Restarted game on XSX. Did clean lap. Opted to submit clean result. Waited 15-20 seconds then result was posted. Went to check my time and it wasn’t posted…

Edit. Restarted game again and now my times are posting…

They will mainly be flagged as dirty as players will have either bashed into an AI or got a drafting benefit but I have seen a few clean runs set from races, presumably when they’ve started close to the front. Does need to be the same season/conditions as the rivals event for it to count though.

Yeah,i had that bug on a couple of the HW circuits when i went through the rivals times list. Panicked me a bit cos i initially thought they’d nerfed the ability to rewind back over the startline on circuit rivals

That’s another thing. Rewind sometimes resets lap and sometimes doesn’t…

It always resets if you go back far enough. It won’t work if you only rewind to slightly before the start-finish line.

Interesting, didn’t know that was a thing.

After doing some rivals last night, I’m thinking maybe expanding the summary on the finish screen to include your current leaderboard position and such might also be nice. Also on the selection screen.
In the selection screen for Motorsport, it tells you your leaderboard position, percentage, and what car you used. When it loads successfully, anyway.
Which would all be nice info to have handy on the course selection screen, and on the finishing screen.

some way of logging your own times & car used would be great aswell !!
Rival wise… i have only 1 friend in this game: ( so the random thing isnt bad for me but can see the need of choice if you have many online friends in the same game… i tried to find my friend once on rivals & couldnt find how do it quick so just raced in the end.
but i dont mind racing cars around a track and wondered what my cars are actually like… some felt great but were rubbish online so some way of tracking my own garage via times would be good.
i could just choose diff tracks for classes & types & find out what was avg-good & what needed some work.
Thats what my hotlaps would probably be for, testing cars… my current method is a bit long winded
