What kind of racing is Forza? (Not nascar, not Indy) so what kind?

Noob questions, I know.

I am watching some $10,000 tournaments on YouTube via iracing.com (some NASCAR racing 100 laps) 50 players online! Holy [Mod Edit - Abbreviated profanity, profanity and profanity that is disguised but still alludes to the words are not permitted - D]! Cool announcers as well.

Pretty impressive stuff, tire curing and many other impressive things as I expand my studies further into the art/science of racing.

Anyways, as I am watching and seeing these commercials for Indy, NASCAR racing. I started pondering what real life racing sport is Forzamotorsport replicating virtually?

It’s not nascar, it’s not Indy, so what is a Forza Motorsport themed racing circuit in real life? Is there even such a thing where they race these kind of basic vehicles or top end rare vehicles that Forza has?

I searched google but cannot seem to find an answer, so, here I am asking.

Forza is track day racing.

It also simulates pretty much all road racing series where you can use the actual race car or take a stock version, throw a GT paint on it, and race it in the class desired or league set up by others players.

Head over to the Racers Lounge of these forums to find player created leagues and tournaments.

I honestly thought you were trolling me at first. Lol. The name just sounds so made up “track day” racing.

Then I did a youtube search and to my surprise, the real life version looked like a actual game of Forza Motorsport 5. If it wasn’t for the guys hands I would had thought it was FM5.

Cool. I’ll check to see if there are tournaments for track day and if any actual sort of following in a sport sense exists.

Thank you CPU R SAZAKI.

No, I think it’s more accurate to say he was trolling you. There are real-world Track Day events, but “track day racing” is his snide way of saying Forza isn’t really about racing.

Sure, the Indy 500 and NASCAR are what come to most people’s minds when someone mentions auto racing, but those are only two of many, many types of racing.

Take a look at this list: Category:Sports car racing series - Wikipedia You can emulate many of those types of racing series in Forza. And… that’s just a partial list - what some wiki editor felt belongs under the heading “Sports Car Racing.”

I’m glad I could help, odi0n. Forza isn’t focused on a particular racing league. Before FM5, there was more variety in race cars, but the main focus always been on road cars. Like RPM Swerve adds, you can go to a certain point replicate any race car, especially with Forza’s paintbooth (which is the best any racing game ever had). You can create your own league if you’d wish.

Pretty slick stuff fellas!

I will definitely have a look at the racers lounge. Hopefully I’ll find some YouTube videos of events they have hosted.

Thanks guys!

Forza Motorsport has somewhat associated itself with ALMS since Forza 4, but that’s about as close as it gets.

Forza is simulating “motorsports”. There is Indy Racing, Stock Car racing, sports car racing, track day racing, drag, drift, etc…

We have “track days” fairly regularly here with plenty of street driven cars racing for the day. Mostly organised by car clubs between themselves so you get a few different makes and models all on the track at once. A lot of them are just for kicks, no placings, just fang around a track for fun. There are a few that are for points over a championship though, and it does kind of look a bit FM when watching. (doesnt have as many deliberate crashes though)

This is all very interesting stuff. As a new comer to racing in general I am surprised at how huge the culture extends.

As a outsider looking in prior to playing F5. I was aware of formula and nascar racing, and honestly, I thought that’s where it started and ended.

To my surprise, there is a whole world of various racing leagues, events, vehicle types. Impressive.

The two big ones are Nascar & Formula. Why are they more popular than say the other kinds of racing cultures? (Track Day, Off Road, etc…)

And who is more popular between the two Nascar or Formula?

NASCAR and Formula 1 aren’t the only big ones. There are other ones like FIA World Endurance Championships, Indy Car series, World Rally Championships, etc, tc. They have pretty big fan bases and are really fun to watch.

Cool. I’ll check them out. I am learning more on this thread than when I tried to search on google. Lol. I guess I’m typing in the wrong keywords.

The set up where modifications add points and change the classification of your car is very similar to the NASA (National Auto Sport Association) classification system. SCCA Club racing would also be a similar philosophy. Although the way the game is structured there are a lot of things users can create. Spec Miata, CMC, American Iron, World Challenge, Trans Am, Continental Challenge, and I could go on and on with production car based race series.

For me it’s closest to track day racing. Without being able to officially apply any proper racing rules it’s not closer to any other type of racing.
