What is the proper way to quit the game?

Honestly this is an XB1 question in general.

I don’t like how the game resumes where it left off even after powering up the next day, something feels wrong about that.
Is there a way to actually quit the game to a load menu, or is it just the nature of games without traditional save systems - that it autosaves and simply loads up when you fire up the Xbox1?

It just gives me the feeling that the game is running while I may be doing other things and I’d rather not be ‘running’ background games while I’m on Twitch with TV snapped.

So how do you quit your FH sessions?

At the Home screen on your Xbox One, press the menu key (three lines). go down to quit and press A. That’ll stop the game completely.

I go into a hub then exit the hub then dash then quit the game :s

Usually I’ll drive to the main Horizon Festival point or a hub then:

  • Guide button to go to the Home screen
  • Menu button(the three lines)
  • Select ‘quit’.

Big X button then the little 3 line button then quit.

MANY thanks guys.

What feels wrong about a game resuming where it left off even after powering up the next day? I honestly do not see anything wrong with that.

It’s not the sole fact that it resumes, it’s the fact that the game was “on” while I wasn’t playing it, or doing completely other things.
Like I’ll be on XB1 for 5 hours, and accidentally click Horizon and it’s just ‘there’. I kinda prefer the option to load what I’m going to use at the time. It’s like a computer, I would not want all my software loading ‘just in case’ I might use it that day.

Keep in mind I’m getting a bit old, and am accustomed to things turning off haha

Yep saves a minute or two of loading and going through menu’s.

I have one more little step, but it’s mostly because I’m obsessive.

If you fast travel to a Hub, or drive there, you can enter the Hub and then leave real quick. After you exit, you will notice the little “saving/loading icon” near the Tachometer/Speedo in the lower right portion of your screen. It will only appear for a couple seconds.

I do that because I think it makes the game save progress.

Then I go to the home screen, press the Start/3 Lines button with Horizon highlighted, then select “Quit” from the bottom of the list.

Simple and quick. When you load, it’ll take you to the car meet closest to the hub you left off at.

Exact same thing I do.

I just press the big button, turn off console

Go to the dashboard (home), press start, go down to “settings,” then go to “power & startup,” and you should see a list of options in the middle of the screen. Uncheck the box that says “resume games quickly.”

Now all games should stop running when you turn the Xbox off.

I usually tend to pause the game first before going to the dashboard to quit the game and power off. I recommend pausing the game first because you never know if the game is going to be saving just when you don’t want it to. Wouldn’t want to corrupt the save…

I agree , it’s the one thing I don’t like, I miss the old Save & quit option from the pause menus. It was a great and flawless system. In my eyes anyway

The hub method, then Quit works. When you switch between games on the Xbox One, unless you Quit one before starting the other, the first one will be sitting there ready to play - also - while you’re in the second game.

Best to always Quit, before switching games or shutting down the console.

You should always be able to quit to the load screen rather than having to fudge it and hard quit from a supposed ‘safe’ in-game state. Dumb design idea. After spending 10 minutes trying to find a graceful way out I was not impressed, particularly given that it’s a game that background cloud-saves whenever it feels like it. BTW turning off quick resume on the XB1 didn’t actually work last time I tried it. At least FM5 totally ignored it.

Just pause at any time the game isn’t showing the saving icon at the bottom right of the screen, then quit. Standard fare for any game, this gen or last.

Oh, really? I look forward to your post about a corrupted gamesave. I’ve never played a game before where you couldn’t exit to the loading screen or select quit from an in-game menu. I guess we play on different consoles.

You’ll be quite dissapointed then, as it’s an issue I’ve never had. Feeling the need to quit all the way back to the Press Start screen works, but it’s paranoia overkill.
