Been playing for a bit and have plenty of cars yet haven’t spent a credit or token yet. What do credits actually do? I thought they paid for cars yet cars are constantly appearing for free.
Also, is there any other way other than tokens to upgrade cars? I don’t do micro-transactions. A scourge on the industry and mostly feel actual money should not have to pay to upgrade an in-game car.

And to upgrade cars you can also use Credits, not only Tokens. It asks if you want to spend Credits or Tokens. And you said you don’t want Microtransactions. Those are the Tokens, not the Credits. Credits are earned by playing. So they are “free”.
Do you have a prototype car? What about Indy? And the F1 car?
You should also go to the store and then in add-ons and get the free DLC there. The Formula E is really fun! And the Rolls Royce. So you can get a nice number of cars with the base game alone.
*You are a bit wrong by saying cars appear for free in this game. Forza Motorsport 3 give you cars at leveling, and Forza Horizon also gives for doing events, not this one. These cars arriving in the message center are not “plenty” IMO.
