They always say that T10 uses the DLC’s to test new stuff and features for upcoming Horizon titles. It is now confirmed that they used (experience from) the Hot Wheels DLC for the elevated highways in Tokyo. But that got me thinking; Mount Fuji was visible in the teaser and Japan is known for tight narrow roads. So I think they also used the Rally Expansion DLC to test that. No other Horizon ever had roads like that. What else could there be for FH6?
Beyond the narrower and twistier roads, there really isn’t much that the Rally Expansion offered in regards to future features. The only other two things I can think of off the top of my head were the more advanced particle effects on the vehicles, which eventually migrated to the main game, and having every single tree on the map be destructible, which might be implemented in Horizon 6. However, if the Japanese government is as strict as the Mexican government when it came to how to represent the country (i.e. what you couldn’t hit or drive on), I wouldn’t bet on mowing down every cherry blossom tree on the map just yet.
If I my add a third, the reversed tracks. I wish they implement that for all races including endurance in FH6.
I also think we will have a progression system from D to X!
Did the waterfall in Hot Wheels help T10 create the one in Fujimi Kaido?
Nah, we always had waterfalls on Fujimi Kaido back on the 360 days and we also had them on Horizon 3 and 5 mainland map
We did get the “2 step” or anti lag turbo around the same time if I’m not mistaken.
I’d be amazed if FK and or Hakone aren’t in the game
There are so many things from those DLCs I really, REALLY hope aren’t carried forward. Those DLCs were more lessons in what not to do than iterative improvements. It’s not that there was nothing to like about either, it’s just that there was so much to dislike and I have very little faith that PGG currently has the ability to tell one from the other.
List of things I liked from the DLCs
- It was a poor decision to add yet more desert to a game already oversaturated with it, but in isolation of the base game, the Rally Adventure map was excellent
- It also had excellent races
- I enjoyed the environmental design of Hot Wheels. Getting a bit of fantasy in the game, especially as an isolated DLC map, was a nice change of pace
List of things I disliked from the DLCs
- That helicopter (may it rot in hell where it belongs)
- Challenges repinning themselves and setting your GPS to annoy you constantly
- Rally pacenotes were a nice idea in theory, but ended up being utterly useless and a waste of everyone’s time, especially the devs
- Rally Advetures excellent tracks showcasing how awful racing against 11 opponents with barebones AI is.
- Hot Wheels tracks were beyond boring. They were roller coaster rides, not race tracks. An entire DLC made for the all-power no-brains builds.
- Rally Adventure rewarded 1, singular WRC car, a motorsport with an extremely rich and deep history. The rest were offroaders. Very thematically inappropriate.
- Endgame remained stagnant and wildly underdeveloped. DLCs were a nice opportunity to change that.
