Wall Riding Lameness

I was looking for posts by the devs or any type of acknowledgement by the devs about the wall riding / friction issues and I can’t find any. Can we expect the friction values on these walls to be changed? I find it very frustrating, it was one of the main bugs that I disliked about other racing games, I honestly didn’t expect to see it in FH4 at all. I really hope that the dev team is looking into it because at the moment in PvP it is a growing habit that more and more every day are abusing. Can we just get the walls deleted if they can’t be fixed, I would rather see people fly off into the bush compared to this abuse that is going on. It is more common in S1 and above but i’ve seen it work on several corners in A class as well.

Down below this is a clip of me showing how silly the wall issue is. If it isn’t allowed here please remove it @mods or I can delete it. As you can see by Bats reaction ‘‘Unbelievable!’’ most of us gamers are not happy about it at all.

For someone isn’t that good at racing, I appreciate the occasional help when I miss a braking zone. I do understand that some people use it to help them. I do find some walls do slow you down - in fact stop you immediately - but there are quite a few you just bounce off. I find it hurts my position more if I crash into a wall either way.
In addition there are more breakable barriers in sections of the game than before so that cuts down on wall riding. I think it is pretty well balanced since some people would just not play if the walls hurt your race too much.

U kidding? That’s is the only way I race lol. I know diehards don’t like it but that’s how I race AI and it will be how I race online.

Imagine if you took the walls away from right angle bends, hardly anyone would make the checkpoint. I think the devs know what they’re doing. It’s quicker to take the corner by cutting the apex anyway.

And that is bad because…?

Because your creating a track on an open world. You have to create track limits where necessary. Learn to play the game how it’s intended and forget your motorsport mentality to races.

If that bothers people can’t they just apply Damage instead of cosmetic? That’s what I would do if I wanted the experience of a real race without a bunch of Nobs who just push there way through with no real skill or passion for the sport.

If your starting out and for quite some time this is helpful at first but you know the difference between a new guy and lvl 1000 taking advantage.

I mean I can understand walls being there to help some of the people who are new to racing games in general, but I think they need to be moved further away from the track in that case, as it is now quite a few corners are actually faster to not use brakes at all and to bounce around the corner while accelerating hard. It seems to be even more abused when it is snowing since brakes get a little worse, but if anything the walls get easier to abuse. I don’t know about damage being turned on because of the aggressive drivers that slam into people or use other people as brakes because they can’t win a race without doing that.

I played several rounds of ranked play yesterday and it was pretty frustrating. Infact those with league positions seemed to play far more aggressively than those without. Ramming, pushing you off the checkpoint, constant blocking when youre faster than them, using you as brakes/cornering and a ridiculous amount of wall riding with those 1500 horsepower raptors that seem to just bounce of walls like it was nothing.

I think the only thing that will satisfy both sides of the coin is to ghost cars. This way everyone gets to play as they want and no one is affected by the way someone else drives.

I added a clip in the first post if anyone wants to check out how silly wall riding really can be when done right. I really hope the devs are aware of this.

Those arguing that doing the turn correctly is faster obviously have never run into a decent wall rider. There needs to either be a penalty system or a separate playlist (that you can actually get into, unlike ranked) that has a penalty system.

Yeah I’m starting to understand more and more. Its almost a survival skills u need to know if you want to do anything competitive.

See my thing is I don’t personally need to be in first. I like the experience of giving the driver in front of me the respect I would on the street. Maybe a lil rubbing cuz it’s a game but nothing agressive. We’re supposed to be having fun. There thousands of ppl thinking there better than everyone and it’s just not so. You can’t win them all.

Maybe in the future we can look at collisions and flag people based on impact if you rear end someone to hard u get a red flag and you lose seconds off your lap time just like in a real race. Have the game determine different types of impact like if a racers locks up his brakes to a % where’s not necessary trying to impede traffic they can be flagged as well. There’s always room for improvement.

In ranked I 100% agree, should be skill based. Ranked should eliminate the barricades or add the orange breakable fence.

Tired of the slow cheesers.

Takes no skill at all, they make a car with max speed and 0 handling just hug the wall. They should also remove the corny free roam rush. 2 things that take no skill in a “ranked” game…

everytime we complain about the walls and checkpoints they make them smoother and easier. i complained about it during the demo and the first 2 replies told me to learn how to corner, geez they didn’t even read the post.

Here is an easy solution…coming soon. The race blueprint creator.

When you create you own races, anywhere, you make it so there are no walls. There ya go. Then invite your club members/friends to race at your blueprint race. Problem solved.

If its a good race layout, people will race your blueprint frequently. If its awful, then no one will go.

There is a reason for walls in many cases, and that is because the layout of the land makes it hard, not just for players but for NPCS as well, to correct driving, especially in wet/snowy conditions. There is only so much that one is able to program for AI of the drivatars, and also keep normal players in mind.

Can you point to a source for this? From what I remember of the video preview, Route Creator was laying out circuit-style Yellow banners for the checkpoints, which implies leveraging the existing race assets (grandstands, walls, etc).

I am hoping that the Route Creator will allow an option for the creation of Street Scene-style events - no walls at all, so no wall riding. Miss the corner, get set back to a reset point and try to catch up. Best case, would be Street Scene-style circuit events with no walls and no traffic.

They can make the barriers offset from each other then so cars aren’t riding around them like a slot car. Easy fix.

It is essentially an exploit and ruins ranked matches. They can keep them in unranked. Anyone can ride the wall it takes absolutely 0 skill so what is the purpose of a “ranked” game?

I’m with you, wall riding effectiveness killed any need to balance a car for handling.

Today I seen quite a few cars built with 0 handling and max speed/accel, they were wall riding like i’ve never seen before, I do hope it gets looked into but honestly i’m losing hope fast. Doesn’t really look like the devs even know about it. The worst part is if you are trying to take the corner normally they’ll just use you instead of the wall taking you out of the race.

This is why I race Goliath. I can’t think of one spot were there is a wall like this to ride on.

If you mess up a turn on Goliath, you are either in a building, off a cliff, or planted in a tree.

This is also why I think it’s important that they implement the FH2/FH3 Multiplayer. In that game, it was all about the XP. But the way it is now, it’s all about the Win.

And yes, I know some drifters in the back abused the XP Championship. But I’d rather deal with that they then the way it is now.
