waiting in multiplayer

Why do players often have to wait very long to participate in an online race?

Is the game too cheap that Turn10 can not afford servers? … It is frustrating to wait especially you can meet in the race unsportsmanlike behavior

Good question, I miss being able to see individual lobbies and pick the one I wanted to join

We also can’t pass the time by spectating races anymore.

Besides getting in lobbies that just started, this is indeed a shame. At least you would be able to spectate while waiting and/or preview if there are most likely gonna be trolls in that lobby.

If only i would be put in to lobbies that was in the last lap, i would really enjoy MP more. So much waiting, and it already happened a couple of times while i was waiting for the next race (like 2-3 minutes) to start i would see Waiting For Cars…just to be followed up by Race in Progress…without me in it.

I heard once that we will be able to test drive our cars while waiting for the race and… nope. I seriously miss the Gran Turismo 5 multiplayer. Yes, it didn’t work most of the time but when it did then you could choose the lobby you want. I loved the track day lobbies and testing different cars…

Why do you have to wait lets think about this it was the only loby with players in it or it was the only lobby with space for you to join so ya have to wait for the race to finish or do you expect the race to be cut short so you can join. No you dont as that would give you another reason to gripe if you were in a race and it got cut short so another player could join. Waiting for a game to finish is all part of the MP experience.
Enjoy you MP mean while I will enjoy FreePlay wher ther are no grieffers or jerks.

Agree… too much waiting. I find myself constantly searching servers where race is ending soon. If the code is too hard to implement, give us server browser then with indication of current lap. Then I can click my self to right one.

Totally agree. I find myself playing single player races just to avoid all the waiting in multiplayer. Spectating the current race would be a nice way to pass the time, or even better, we should be allowed to run test laps (and tune!) on our cars while we wait.

The brings me to another thing - the inability to make tunes while in multiplayer lobbies is beyond stupid. If I run a race and realize I’m struggling because I need to tweak my suspension settings, I hve to exit out of multiplayer -completely- to change the car’s tune, save it, and go back… probably losing contact with the same room in the process. Totally stupid.

If I’m waiting in a lobby a dare not do anything. If I try to change car, tune, assist etc I either crash to desktop or the next race begins without me.

The lobbies in forza 6 were simple but effective and worked smoothly. Forza 7 lobbies are just cluttered, even the drivers names with there car details are to small and not easy on the eye. That drivatar cant help with smooth running either, what race car drivers dance next to there car before a race? Its just wrong.

The way i experience FM7 lately:

  • Start the game
  • Game doesn’t start, doesn’t go past black logo screen.
  • I know how to fix it, so i fix it. Download free app from MS store to trigger this abysmal drm/uwp system.
  • Start the game
  • Go to my new messages
  • See nothing at all, not the “mouse bug” but simply nothing.
  • Have to force close the game because nothing works when i am in the new messages screen
  • Start the game
  • Skip new messages
  • Go to Online
  • Join new lobby
  • Race just started Lap 0/4
  • Disconnect and find new lobby
  • Race just started Lap 0/3
  • Disconnect and find new lobby
  • Race just started Lap 2/9
  • Disconnect and find new lobby
  • Race near the end, so i wait for the next one.
  • 3 Things can happen at this point:
    – The game crashes of too many maploads or what ever the reason this time might be. Back to Step 1 guys…
    – The game leaves me in the lobby and starts the race without me, after waiting for 5 mins+ in total already. This happens way too often. (Please T10 fix this).
    – I can actually race now, like i should. (whether the online experience is off or not, that is not the point of this discussion right now)

How is this is a fun and great online experience? Not to mention the hellhole online sometime, or most of the time is where nobody will grant you anything at all.
When you have limited time because of either going to work early or have other obligations, this makes it even worse experience.

My tips to make a better online experience with the current system we have:

  • Shorten the time between races (especially on Drag races!!!) or make them just a little bit longer. 1 or 2 laps on most circuits can be enough.
  • Some kind of priority system where players will get put into lobbies that are near finishing up and actually have enough players in them
  • Do not just add us to a lobby with 23/24 just because it seems logical to fill up lobbies. Why? Because that 1-4 players leaving at the start of the race are 9 out of 10 times people that got crashed into oblivion into the first corner of the circuit and just quit the game. The newly joined player just joined a lobby that has started and has to wait for ever, or just quit and find a new one. Making the next victim go trough the same process as the previous player…quit or wait

Edit: Also thanks for removing my topic and merging it under somebody else. If you want to clean your forums, might as well bring every post under one topic:: “Can we fix this game already”

you lot are just complaining for the sake of it. If u think it’s bad waiting for races to finish u should have played 80s gaming systems where u waited half hour just for the game to load. What do u want them to do cut races short just cos ur too impatient to wait for it to finish. Get over yourselves just be patient n wait or back out n jump in another lobby.
Excercise patience people

I remember tape deck loading for games, and also a fishing game where you had to sit and wait for a fish for half an hour at least once it it had loaded. So all in all you could sit patiently for an hour doing nothing but waiting. Now I am sat doing the same thing all these years later.

I don’t mind waiting for a race to finish, its when the race finishes and then starts again without me that gets right on my #+=#% nerves. I have however started to read an actual book in load times :+1::+1:

Do you even read or are you just complaining just to complain about complaining? Very constructive feedback my friend, lets cut races short so we don’t have to spent more time between actual races, /s
Also when i was a kid the only obligation i had was to sleep when my mom told me to sleep.

Yes I did read things that’s why I have said ur impatient. The only public lobby o race in is the gt endurance as I prefer longer races. I wait for patiently for ages whilst the race ends without moaning cos I know you have to. Like I said it’s nothing compaired to what games used to be like in days gone by. It is about patience. generally there’s only 2 or 3 lobbies for endurance anyway so if u want a full lobby u just wait patiently if not back out n join another. Unfortunately it’s a symptom of modern society that everyone wants everything right now n no one wants to wait n exercise patience. Just be patient n wait or keep backing out until u find a lobby. Stop moaning for the sake of moaning.

Yep I read I read all the griping by the MP community and have a ball there are complaints of races being to short not enough creds not enough lobbies to many bad players and now we have complaints about waiting times for races to finish it is just a laugh a minuit with the MP community gripe gripe non stop.

Now then you can not have longer races and shorter wait times like you all seem to want just how would this work, lets say there is 5 races onging in the A class lobbie 20 players in each race each race takes about 10 minuits with 1 min for voting and another min for getting race rewards that is 12 min minuim ok, so this means you will have a wait time or 3 to 12 minuits to get a race depending on how stagered each race is. Now if only 1 race is in progess you will have to wait for it to finish or should the race be ended 1 lap after a person logs in to the lobby.

Could just see the griping if that happened go in to lobby and do a bunch of 2 lap races because peeps keep loging in to the lobbY.

YOU CAN NOT HAVE SHORT WAIT TIMES AND LONGER RACES LIKE YOU ALL KEEP ON GRIPING ABOUT YOU CAN HAVE LONG WAIT AND LONG RACES OR 1 OR 2 LAP RACES AND SHORT WAIT TIMES BUT NOT BOTH

I’m wondering why they always put me in a lobby right as the race starts. For normal races, a 5-10 minute wait for a match is irritating, but tolerable. On the otherhand, waiting 45-60 minutes for an endurance race is just stupid game design.

I am not impatience, but if the same thing keeps happening over and over every time you play it gets frustrating. combined by the amount of bugs this game already has that either crashing you to desktop or forces you to restart the game. Than yes it is extremely annoying just to boot up the game and go trough the same thing again.

It is not impossible to retrieve data from current lobby/ongoing race:

Almost done/last lap remaining (for endurance lobbies, you could up this a bit) > prioritize newly queued players
Just started > don’t prioritize newly queued players

-Freshly started races will lose some players due to quitting or crashing. When its near the end it will gain players.
-Ending games will be full lobbies once it starts or close to full lobby, because system prioritizes this lobby over freshly started ones
-If there is no option for both, create a new lobby and have a minimum amount of players before actually going live, lets say 5 or 8. (Forcing minimum player limit means there will not be a ton of very low player lobbiies, which is beneficial to Forza servers. This is for hopper lobbies only, dont force minimum player limit on private lobbies though :-)).

Making races longer was just a comprise, so you actually race more than you will be spending time in lobbies/pre-race in its current form. It can stay short/medium, if the lobby system is better than it is now. For drag races its still viable to make time between drags shorter, since you will not be spending that much time on the track, so joining one that has recently started isn’t as painful as joining a circuit race lobby on 0/3.

The amount of laps or time racing isn’t an issue. You cannot join mid race, so adding new players to a just started endurance race or in this case longer races, well its pointless. This is why you want to prevent that. It would be an issue if the player base doesn’t go over a 1000 players so you cannot fill up lobbies, which i assume Forza does…if not this game is doomed already.

Just making a suggestion for a better overall experience, i would assume its something we all want right?

It is mostly because there is always people leaving in the first lap because of getting rammed or crashing/not actually loading in the game (which to me is not a rare occurrence), so the game instantly makes up that free slot for a new player.

Oh wow lets think about this shall we, endurance race despite all the griping about races being to short a lot of peeps dont like the endurance race lenght so if there is only 20 to 40 peeps doing endurances only 1 or 2 races will be in progess so you need to wait. Now there is a way arround this and that is to place the player in an empty lobby till another player logs in and then you can have a 2 or 3 person race something alse for you to gripe about how come there is only 2 or 3 other players for me to race against…

6 was exactly the same so I don’t think the game is doomed as u claim it to be
