Vinyl Placement On Metallic Paints

I see this section doesn’t get a whole lot of traffic but, maybe someone will know the answer. Is there a way to apply metallic vinyls or “clean up” vinyls on metallic paints. I have noticed that when applying vinyls to the quarter panel of the NASCAR race cars that when the vinyl is proportioned correctly it will overlap the top of the panel creating a heavily distorted and unsightly vinyl. Is this a rendering issue or a template issue and can it be fixed?

sounds like a template problem- I’ve run into this on several cars in horizon3 and you have to move it away from that area to get it straight. Have to make some compromises with realism in that case, usually

I did a Zakspeed Nurburgring viper and had to put part of the hood’s number plate on the top of the fender, then ungroup, resize and skew it until it met up with the hood one and looked right.

The quarter panel vinyls on the NASCAR will get distorted if you are too close to the top edge. The only solution is to have it differ slightly from the actual placement. Depending on the vinyl shape, you can slightly compensate by placing a copy of the vinyl on the top view section of the quarter panel, but that doesn’t always do the trick since the exact placement have different issues. This might work on metallic paints, but not by using a masking vinyl shape, since a vinyl can’t be metallic.

Thanks for the input. I have a lot of NASCAR paint schemes done and I am working on the Earnhardt Bass Pro Shops car, but being gold is where my question comes from. The top of the “G” in Goodwrench stretches all the way up to the quarter window and if I scale Goodwrench down so this doesn’t happen, it is way too small. Now on my non-metallic paints I have no issue just use a masking vinyl like you said. Guess I will just have to think of something else.

Painting in Forza is all about adapting to what is possible. While it’s almost impossible to create exact replicas (or even to place logos where they should go or where we want them to go), just do the best you can do.

It seems to me that for you SweedishThunder anything is possible, I have your 88 Superman chevy SS, and it is nothing short of amazing. The level of detail you put into that car is… well I can’t even! I’m not sure if it is exactly like the vinyls on the car Jr drove, but it looks awesome so who cares.
