I was in the process of posting that I didn’t yet get my in-game GIFTs from the Forza Hub spanning a number of titles (I am Tier 10, so I get quite a bit) when today I finally received them. 6 days late, when normally I get them within 10 to 20 minutes. But since I got them now, hopefully there is nothing wrong with the distribution of such GIFTs. Hopefully this is a one time thing and does not become problematic again. I do have other issues I want to mention.
1. Frame-rate Stutter
I have ALL the Forza titles that have been released on an Xbox thus far. I have accumulated over 10,000 gamer score points and obtained Tier 10 in the Forza Hub. As a result, I notice things. For example, I don’t recall frame-rate issues on the Xbox 360. But I have run into this on the Xbox One and I’ve noticed the same thing can happen on all Xbox One titles (Forza 5, Forza 6, Horizon 2 and Horizon 3) - at one moment or another the video image stutters or freezes momentarily (for maybe a second). It then corrects itself and everything is fine (until the next time). Playing by myself, racing around the map it can happen as often as every 30 minutes or so. This can be a real nuisance, because you can miss a turn, crash, or break a skill chain as a result, and this happens more often than you may realize. Since all 4 Xbox One games are affected to one degree or another I believe this is a Forza game-engine issue. I hope you are not just ignoring it, but will address this and perhaps provide a fix (patch) to existing games. But certainly fix it for future games. I am playing on an original black Xbox One with 500 G Hard Drive.
2. You Broke “Infected”
I am not a big online multiplayer gamer. I love co-op and playing with my friends. We used to play tons of games on our Xbox 360s over System Link, however System Link is NOT an option on the Xbox One and System Link hasn’t been supported in a Forza game since Forza MotorSport 2. Anyway, Infected was one multiplayer game mode I loved to play online in the original Forza Horizon. I believe it was very popular. The matchmaking process and choosing a server was a bit old school, but it was TONS of FUN to play! You broke this formula when you released Horizon 2 and carried over the same thing into Horizon 3. You created a category of racing called “playground games” in which you threw Infected along with other game modes. I ONLY want to play infected, over and over. I also often just want to play with just my friends, OR (like the original Forza Horizon) create a game party with my friends and include others on Xbox Live to fill out the numbers - not an option in Horizon 2 or 3. Also, many of the original maps in Forza Horizon were not merely novelty maps. They included a wide variety where you could use high powered cars on streets. There was and always will be something special about playing Infected on Beaumont, Carson Warehouses and Red Rock. On these maps you could use powerful cars and race toward or away from your opponents at very high speeds. These kinds of maps don’t exist in Horizon 2 or Horizon 3. ALL your "playground maps"are bouncy, cluttered novelty maps (with more in common with the Carson Golf Course - one of my least favorite maps) that don’t facilitate powerful cars well or skillful street racing. Therefore playing Infected in Horizon 2 or 3 is usually best served by using an off-road or rally vehicle… I miss Beaumont. I miss the clean streets, high speed racing and more of an urban setting.
I played more multiplayer online in Forza Horizon because of infected. I try not to play multiplayer online in Horizon 3 because as far as I am concerned Infected is broken and I don’t find the options that are given are very much fun. For these reasons alone I originally was telling my friends NOT to get Horizon 2 or 3 for their Xbox Ones. I have since discovered the ability to create private matches where you can do more of whatever you want, so more of us are playing Horizon 2 this way, but Infected is still relegated to novelty maps that aren’t nearly as fun or as open as the street maps of the original game. I strongly suggest that you take all this into account when making your next Horizon game. I was going to write all this to you once I saw what you did in Horizon 2 but didn’t get around to it. At least you now have my feedback. At present I only play online multiplayer for Forzathon challenges (if I feel up to it). I sure miss Infection the way it used to be, more free and open on more streets, and able to play for hours if you wanted (without having to account for other modes).
3. Anna’s Ongoing Nuisance Messages
A similar problem existed in the original Horizon, when you were constantly harassed to do a bucket list challenge, even though you had already completed them all. In Horizon 3 Anna keeps telling me that “You have completed every race… there are no more fans to earn in Australia.” Do you know how annoying it is to hear this message about every 45 minutes every day you play the game? I must have heard this message at least over 300 times (all unnecessary). The algorithm should turn this off after a certain number of times or after 5 times only tell me about once a week, or there should be a setting to turn this off altogether. Please fix this and take this into account in future games. There are some of us who just love to drive around the map and have fun and don’t need annoying messages pestering us.
Also, I do not need Anna to pester me about a bucket list challenge nearby (unless it it brand new) or a new driver for my lineup or marking out a route to my “next” race. She can tell me once, then not bother anymore. Drop the ongoing repetition. Perhaps you can include a history of such reminders somewhere in the menus (or a list of the ones that still apply and haven’t been completed), so if I need to I can go there and see if I have missed or forgotten something I care about. But I don’t need her incessant pestering. It gets really bothersome when I’m working on trying to get 3 stars on a Drift Zone and she interrupts with something that is not currently my focus. Maybe there should be an option to turn Anna OFF completely while I work on certain PR Stunts or achievements. Now that would be helpful.
4. Skill Chains are Not Scored Properly in Head-to-Head Races
I can’t verify this 100%, but it seems to me that if you have a skill chain going and complete a H2H race, you don’t get any of the associated skill score if the chain has not been logged before the end of the race. This is not the case in normal (ie. Championship or online) races. I should get the skill score at whatever it is at the end of a race regardless. I find in H2H races, if I get far enough ahead, I have to slow down near the end of the race to allow the skill score to get logged, then I finish the race - somewhat of a nuisance that I shouldn’t have to do.
5. Find & Race Drivatars is Too Constrained
About 95% or more of the time Anna directs me to find and race a Drivatar on the map (as a potential to add to my lineup) it is someone in my friend’s list. Problem is that only a few of these friends have and actually play Forza Horizon 3. So many of the Drivatar’s have a level of 1 . Some of these friends will never play Forza Horizon 3. The algorithm for picking the next Drivatar as a potential for my lineup NEEDS to be improved. I should not have to decline the same Drivatar over and over again multiple times. If I have declined the Divatar and that particular Drivatar has not increased in any of the three areas of note, they should not be included in the pick list any more. If something changes (i.e., they do get the game, or begin to play it again) then they should be put back on the list. And players who are not on my friends list should be included more often, especially if I have either accepted or declined all existing friends in my list. Do NOT keep rotating through the same list of Drivatar friends when they aren’t playing the game or increasing in their stats. Having said that, I do like the Drivatar Lineup idea. It just needs to be improved and not be so constrained to the same people each time (who I have already declined).
6. Non-Player Cars Need to Be Smarter
Occasionally a car will stop or drive around you. But usually they just do what they are gonna do as if you don’t exist. They will turn on their turn signal and often move into your lane without checking their blind spot to see if you are there. Annoying. Many broken skill chains because of stupid cars that are unaware I am there, rather than a bonehead move on my part.
7. More Car Garage Sorting/Filtering Options
First, thank-you for adding Favorites back in (used to be in an older Forza title). Perhaps this is an enhancement for the next game, but I would like to see additional sorting options based on NEW (just new cars added to the garage), HE (just Horizon Edition Cars), and perhaps a custom option where you can specify different combinations of upgrades or automotive features and accessories.
8. More Skills/Status Detail
It is obvious that you track more than what is displayed in the Progress and Status menus. I would like to see more of this on-screen. They may be grouped into categories or groups, but I would like to see or obtain specific details of what I have accomplished for ALL the various skills. This would also come in handy when I have to do 100 Ultimate Air skills (or something else) for a particular Forzathon challenge. I could then go in and see where I’m at and track my progress of how many more I need to get. I also want to see my XP progress bar somewhere in the menu, perhaps under Status or my profile, not just when I complete a race and see the points being added. BECAUSE, there are many ways of getting XP besides winning races, and I want to see my current progress from time to time, whenever I want.
9. Include Car Trading
In Horizon 2 you removed the shared garage in Car Clubs. This reduces the value of having or being in a car club. You also carried this change into Horizon 3, though you added an Auction House, which works reasonably well. However, I would like the option of either gifting a car to a specific friend or doing a private trade between gamers (similar to how Borderlands allows you to trade items between players). The trade could be one or more cars from one gamer for one or more cars of another gamer, and may optionally include in-game credits.
FINAL THOUGHTS
As you may be able to deduce I am a big fan of the Forza franchise. Since I tend to like arcade racers more, I increase the assists in the Forza Motorsport series and actually enjoy the Horizon series best. Although it is not perfect (as per issues described above) I consider Forza Horizon 3 the best racing game I have ever played in my life. I am currently at level 515 in the game, driven 17, 246 miles over about 242 hours, have 276 cars in my garage, 95,000,000+ in winnings, over 17,400 in Ultimate skills, and 470 promo photos taken. I have driven all the streets and found all the bonus boards, beauty spots and barn finds in the main game and in Blizzard Mountain. I have raced and won over 700 Head to Head races, have 3 stars on all PR Stunts and completed all the Bucket List challenges and Street Races. I have only done 12 of the 63 Championships, but I have a total gamer-score of 1330 and most of the achievements. I continue to like messing around in a car of my choice anywhere around the map, doing whatever. In many ways Forza Horizon 3 is a high water mark in game development, especially for racing games.
So, thank-you for making a truly epic franchise and an awesome game. I do like all the extra bits you have included, such as the ability to do better skill chains, more to do in many different ways and Forzathon challenges. I am hoping that what I have provided will help you perhaps make a patch that addresses some of these issues in Horizon 3 (and maybe 2), but ultimately make an even better game in Horizon 4.
