With the release of the Top gear car pack the game now has 572 unique cars. If I understand it correctly there is a garage limit of only 600 cars and a design catalogue limit of only 500 cars. Yet there is also another issue at hand where the unique livery of gifted cars (like the VIP gifted cars or the Lamborghini contested cars) get destroyed after an error message even when I am not at the garage limit (only 578 cars in my garage) nor at the design limit (only 2 designs). More details on that can be found over here.
I can only assume there is another hardcapped livery list we don’t know about where custom liveries from gifted cars get saved (and who knows what else), I assume this list is capped at 500 as well. I’m sure the custom design of gifted cars adds up to that list (since it’s not in the My Design list) and I also think that for a particular car when changing from 1 factory colour to another factory colour adds up to that list as well because that is something I have done in FM6 quite often. However in that case these factory colours get saved in the My Design list as well which you can delete the designs from. But, in this other weird list I believe they are kept and slowly eat up space until you reach that hard cap like I did.
I really think Turn 10 needs to expand the limits of these lists urgently. Let’s do some quick math :
572 cars if you only buy each car in the game once (I’m not even talking about duplicate copies here for different tunes). This includes all unicorn cars as well as promotional cars once. (sidenote : If you think this would be hard to get, I’m only missing 3 cars from the game aside from the Top Gear pack).
+14 gifted Lamborghini contest cars if you win 2 cars each week and 2 grand prices at the end of a season (6+1+6+1=14 cars)
+7 gifted VIP cars each month (from September until March)
+3 extra gifted cars (Fallout F-100, Halo Mustang, Holiday Ford Transit)
+1 because the Ferrari California seems to be coming from FH2 to FM6 as well (FM6 now has a “Ferrari Cali” and a “Ferrari Cali T” in the game).
572+14+7+3+1 = 597 cars
And then I’m not even counting on the few extra gifted cars from design contests, or all the future DLC packs, VIP gifted cars and unicorn contests we will get.
It’s quite obvious the game with all it’s DLC packs, gifted cars and unicorn contests is growing beyond the limitations that were set up on release date. These car / design / tune limitiations really need to be increased really soon.
The limitations on the tunes/cars/designs is affected by the need to have the ENTIRE game save in the cloud and that has limitations imposed by Microsoft. T10 improved the efficiency of their save size for FM6 but there will always be limits with such a system.
Wow, I didn’t even realize that this was a thing. I really hope they do something to add additional save space, one of my aspirations was to fill the game with my custom work when I had time to work on it.
I hope when they realize this is an issue they will add more than a cloud save for FH3, that aspect alone may ruin the game for me because I always tinker with every car I drive.
Ultimately, the file limitations are problematic (albeit for only a few who amass so much content) and I do hope that Turn 10, in the position that they are in, are able to lead the way in diminishing file sizes. While they are at it, I hope they can find a way to compress the size of the install files too.
I’m fully prepared to start selling Formula E cars when faced with the garage limit. From there, gone will be some of the Toyota WTCC cars that are the same aside from livery. Then probably some of the 7 different Honda Indy liveries. There’s no real need to keep all of the cars that are duplicates aside from race livery in your garage really.
Well we car collectors prefer to keep all the unique livery cars as well, hence also why I went the extra mile to get ALL the special preorder Forza Team cars and both the MX5 Pringles and GT Nutri-Grain cars. Saying we would need to delete cars just because of some storage limitations of this game is just really sad. Forza Motorsport would go down in my history books and the first game (anno 2016) where I would have to delete/sell cars because of garage limitations. And yes I played GT5/GT6 as well, there the limit was 1000 cars but the game had over 1200 cars if you add the low res PS2 cars too. But still, you could buy all the cars in the game once, there was extra storage space in what was called the stock yard, you could move cars back and forth between your garage and stock yard.
But… this problem I have has nothing to do with the number of cars in my garage since I’m not at 600 yet, there is another force at hand that destroys my gifted car liveries when I download them from my in-game message inbox.
please tell me theres an update planned to increase setup saves! with so many engine/drivetrain options in F6 it seems crazy to limit saves at 500! i never ran out of saves on F5 or F4 so…
Actually thinking about it, Turn 10 could easily do something like the GT6 stockyard as well. If garage cars are saved in the cloud and that has limits it’s silly still silly anno 2016 but whatever. But they could implement a local storage on my Xbox as well which would be the stock yard. You can only race games from your garage but you can move cars back and forth between your garage and stockyard (everything belonging to the car as well like tunes, designs and stats). If I download a gifted car and for whatever reason the cloud cannot accept the gifted design of the car, the entire car could be moved to my stockyard.
Well not everyone plays the game the same way, some people only race with leaderboard cars so for them 50 cars might even be sufficient. As a car collector and enthusiast I don’t care much about that but I do enjoy collecting all cars and taking them out for a ride. Obviously for me whatever limit I ran up against is too limited or else I wouldn’t have bumped into it.
Please also note that this thread is not about the 600 car limit for the garage, there is another design limit which results in a bug so that gifted cars being received in your garage have their livery destroyed.
There’s no such thing as an easy fix in an incredibly complex game with thousands of moving parts.
Forza was never designed as a car-collecting game, or a design-collecting game or a tune-collecting game. Can you play the game that way? Certainly, but there are limits as you’ve now discovered. Time to make a decision on how best to proceed given that your extreme use case has come up against a hard limit you cannot get around.
Again, this is not about that, this is about a bug that destroys liveries from gifted cars. My garage is not full, my design catalogue is not full and my tunes certainly are not full either.
