I play with the unbeatable AI and all assists off and I don’t know if its just me, but I feel like the AI aren’t very good. An example of what I mean is when I’m in a car slower in a straight line than all the AI when they come up behind me super fast and when I move over to let them by they just back down, they also slow down unnecessarily around some corners allowing me to streak by. This is really frustrating as I do the medium length races(for a bit more realism) and I am usually up in 2nd or 3rd by lap 3, which leads to the remainder of the race being very boring. Is it just me experiencing this, or is this everyone?
Depends on the track and class. Sometimes they are stupid easy, other times they running close to same times as know fast drivers times. I haven’t found a places where they were “unbeatable”.
Yep, I noticed this in the formula E series. One race the top 6 were running very fast laps and all well within the top 100 and the rest of the field was 5 seconds a lap slower. Lol.
You have to change the aggressiveness of the AI. They leave it off as a default even if it is set on Unbeatable. Once turned on, cars will not let you pass and bump in to you making them more aggressive and harder; should make it more real and frustrating.
I have it on… I’ve been wondering if it’s working right actually. I think it just comes down to them being good at some tracks and trash at others.
They still suck on some tracks. Maple Valley, for example. You can hit some turns with full throttle and they slow down, when the brake line is red. Very enjoyable, compared with other tracks. I think the most are easier ones, a few are really challenging.
Yeah, Maple Valley really proves that the drivatars are really just AI as they use their brakes on the same parts on the track, as in previous games with AI instead of drivatars.
I find the difficulty all over the board. Sometimes I can never catch them, and other times I have to check the settings to see if dropped to “average”. There should be a “Don’t break on corners like Idiots” difficulty that doesn’t make them impossible to catch.
I’ve been running extra long race length with unbeatable AI. Couple things I noticed.
They are extremely fast in a straight line, but not so much in the corners. For power tracks like Sebring or the Road America layout that just uses the two straights, they’re very difficult to catch if they don’t need to make a pit stop before the end of the race. Tracks that aren’t so focused on straight line speed I usually beat the AI quite handily and it’s more about how long it takes for me to work my way up through the field.
Their pace slows just past the halfway part of the race. The leaders would build a gap of a couple thousand feet but after the halfway point I’d start to reel them in, but when I look at my lap times relative to my fastest lap, may pace isn’t changing all that much. I run sim damage so either their tires are dropping off way quicker than mine or there’s some sort of under-the-hood trickery with the AI to keep the races competitive.
Yeah, I noticed that. I did a 25 lap race around the Daytona oval in well… a Daytona(The dodge). I was maxing out at around 160 but cars kept tearing by me like it was a breeze and the leaders had I think a 5000-6000ft gap before on lap 15 or so the tides started changing and I became the fastest on the field. So I think there is a form of rubber-banding going on.
The only thing that is consistant with the AI is that the AI is not consistant EVER! Not at any time not at any track! The only thing that IS consistant is they WILL hold the racing line whether you are already there or not and if you pass even on the outside they WILL bump you invalidating your lap guaranteed! This especially true in multiple bucket/class races where passing without a bump is impossible. Really needs to be fixed.
I can confirm they are consistently unbeatable @ sebring.
On unbeatable, in single player races with only two laps, I generally can’t catch the leader when they start me mid pack. I lose too much time trying to get through the field. Even being super aggressive…moving cars, I get to only around 3rd or 2nd.
Sometimes I’ll have a couple of seconds a lap on the leader and other times, the leader will have me by 1 second or more a lap.
For those short races, I have to turn the AI down if I want a chance to catch them.
They are just inconsistent. On Maple Valley, Prague or Nordschleife for example the AI is extremely weak. But then there are Road America and Sebring. On these tracks they get insane speed boosts on the straights. There is the Sebring layout with basically only two straights. Depending on the chosen car category they can even beat the world record times with more than a second on that Sebring layout.
P1 drivatars at Road America are still driving off the track at the carousel…I even have them set to unbeatable & they just drive right off with no pressure being out on them. Why? Why? Why?!!
I’ve seen 6 to 8 of them go off to the left into the wall. It’s insane. I don’t remember this being an issue in FM6.

Since the Drivatars’ behaviour is supposedly based on their real life counterparts, perhaps those drivers all have issues at the carousel? I mostly drive on unbeatable, and have only seen cars go off there once or twice. On unbeatable, my competitors usually look like a string of pearls on the minimal (until you get to the longer races on the longer tracks where they start to spread out more because of different cars having different strengths on straights/turns).
Someone please try making a custom match in free play using P1 cars…the Nissan #23 GT-R LM, #2 Audi R18 ‘14 & the #19 Porsche 919. I set each bucket to 3 cars (except of course bucket 1). Set them to unbeatable at Road America & tell me if they drive off the track at the carousel. When I do it 3 to 4 of the drivatars will go off the track there. I would appreciate it.
The IndyCar Championship race at Indianapolis (oval) was stupidly easy on unbeatable. I did extra long (80 laps) and won by 4 laps.
I can confirm the unbeatable AI can be beaten handily at Sebring and Le Mans even with three class races BUT, for me a short race is 20 to 30 laps! Someone DID mention they’ll slow down mid-race and do weird pit stops and that is true. The other leveler I’ve found is that at the “magic mile” lead over the AI your car suddenly has terrible handling like a bad set of tires and this can last for up to five laps and goes away like magic. This has happened since fm6 and still continues. I’ve learned to drive through it and it can happen twice in a 50 lap race. Car or class doesn’t matter, it’s tied to the AI.
