Alright, I kinda got the idea that the developers have taken the pro points from both Horizon 1 and Forza 5 to decide what made it into the game, I know the developers listened to the fans, and from what I know, the game will be the best of both worlds (?) with an obvious lean for Horizon.
What I want to talk about on this thread is which game the UI will take after. For those that don’t know, UI means User-Interface, basically the menus, customization/car buying screens and what not.
What do you guys think?
Did it take advantage of the new features customization and tuning wise to make room for some Forza Motorsport 5 influence in how the menus will go?
Or should it take after Forza Horizon 1, where the majority of the UI and menus were accessed on the road ingame?
I think this is an interesting topic, especially since the well-requested tuning is back in.
Which reminds me… how do you think the tuning benchmark will be re-integrated? Would you expect that we be able to tune in a ‘test-drive’ mode or something?
My second thread, here we go
Hopefully this doesn’t get locked this time because I could not figure out why my last one got removed
Going by the gameplay that’s already avaliable you can access an immense amount of options and features just through the pause menu while on the road. At the same time though the Horizon festival area does have drive-in areas which may be related to tuning and car purchases. I think on the whole it’ll be akin to Horizon 1 in any case. =)
The car buy menu is very similar to that of Forza 5, so I think we’ll see a very familiar interface for tuning etc as well. I doubt they’ll want to risk alienating the painters and tuners who have accustomed themselves to the interface.
I hope to high hell they keep the tuning system to what we are all used to. Even if they think a change is better in that department, it is not necessary. If they think they have to do anything, make it more detailed and professional.
I wish there was a video that showcased it adequately. Every clip I find only shows it for 10 seconds before the guy playing does something else. But at the same time, it’s fun not knowing - makes it even more pleasantly surprising when the game comes out
Usually when devs and other people get their copy of the game, videos are released on YouTube and hopefully soon. Like a horizon 1, they were few videos with customization , buying vehicles and more 2-3 weeks before Horizon 1 came out too. That was the best part.
I haven’t seen much, but it looks like most options will be available from the pause menu. I hope the tuning options will be available during normal free-roam (like the FM’s Test Drive) so I can make adjustments on the fly. Obviously, when you are on an active event, such as a race or career mode road trip, the option to make adjustments would be disabled, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I’m expecting to have to stop at Horizon Outposts to make the adjustments, though…
The menus themselves seem to take after FH1, but without any of the oddly skewed, not-quite-straight stuff going on. Its more icon and geometric-button based, like most modern UIs are.
While the FH1 menus had a grunge-like feel with the tread marks and the angled options, the FH2 menus are very clean and use a very nice grid, in many ways they’re similar to the Xbox Home menus, sans the Xbox’s lime coloring. They have a bit of a 3d feel with the perspective they’ve added.
The menu content itself seems to take a bit more after FM5, for example the paint options appear to be the same as FM5, and the way its organized feels a bit more like FM5. It appears that you can purchase cars from the menu while driving, but no word yet if that will include customization and tuning (I’d expect not).
Hopefully the menus won’t be as clunky and slow to get around as FM5. It’s really a pain how slow the screens loaded, and the wait before they acknowledged another button press.
I love the look of the UI for FH2. It looks very simple and clean. Loving it more than FM5. It also looks from the video I posted in the “everything we know” forum, we’ll be able to go in and tune our car before a race starts.
