Tx Wheel went up in smoke...

Half way thought the introductory lap at the very beginning of Forza 5 my wheel disconnected from my Xbox One and smoke started streaming out of the wheel vents. Not a great start and it seems like I am not alone :frowning:

Whilst its a good wheel, its reliability does seem very poor. I’ve gone through two in 4 months so far myself. I can see lots of issues ahead if the reliability doesn’t improve once the warranty runs out for people. Its not a cheap wheel.

agreed, buying a wheel is an investment, I am hoping it would last for the lifetime of my console.

BTW, wheel number 2 made it through the first race, fingers crossed

Mine just did the same thing after literally 30 seconds of use. Just bought my brand new TX wheel. First time ever using it and on the 3rd corner of Laguna Seca it locks up and reeks of burning electrical, tried resetting xbox and plugging the wheel on the PC and nothing but burning smell. Can’t even get it to turn on. What a POS. DO NOT BUY THRUSTMASTER TX!

I feel your pain! I unpacked my wheel when I got it and looked at it for a few days before I got the chance to play with it (I was waiting for my Fanatec CSL stand to arrive). Would like another one but I’m afraid it will be more hassle than it’s worth. It’s a shame because reliability aside it’s a decent wheel (other than the plasticky wheel and so-so pedals).

Did you just reply to yourself?!

Gee I totally did. That’s what I get for checking the forums when I’m too tired. Or I have multiple personality disorder.

Sounds like the motor control circuits cant handle the current, I’m surprised this wheel has not been removed from sale because that can start a fire.

While people were not happy with 2 or 3 years out of Fanatec wheels… Thrustmaster wheels seem unable to last half of the Fanatec lifetime, So many wheels are braking in the first year.

C’mon Fanatec hurry up already with a wheel for XO & PS4!

Sounds like someone with multiple accounts , probably a fanatec fanboy is putting down the Tx !
someone forgot to switch accounts when replying to themself!

I am pretty sure most of the first batch bad wheels have been sold returned to thrustmaster. Im sure there are a few places that don’t rotate there stock right also place’s that didn’t sell a lot so they still have them. The new wheels after the first batch were revised and dont have the same issues at least that’s what I was told by customer service in February or March.

Mines from the first batch and it’s been perfect!

I just bought a TX ten days ago and now the FF has suddenly stopped working. It’s so weak that I can barely feel it. It’s not even strong enough for the wheel to self-initialize when plugging in - I have to move it manually for auto-calibration. There’s no smoke or burning smell though. I’m pretty annoyed - packing things up and shipping them back is such a hassle and shipping large boxes isn’t cheap here in Australia either.

Same thing happened to me. Got it replaced and now the one I have won’t finish calibration. When I connect to either the Windows 8.1 PC or the Xbox One console it starts calibration and then dies before finishing.

VIdeo:

My tx acts like that to when it first turns on, I don’t see anything wrong and the video proves nothing

IIRC my TX wheel has a center spring on PC after it calibrated. Jaredo you need to grow up, the TX wheel has a lot of issues and it’s not all peach and rosses, why do you feel the need to try defend it so strongly? People here have genuine issues with their wheels and you have the audacity to start a thread and call them trolls and say they have no credibility because of some stupid forum ranking system? Seriously man if you can’t actually give people help don’t bother posting.

It sure sounds like a troll when a guy replies to his own post!

If your wheel goes up in smoke contact thrustmaster support even the thrustmaster x team on facebook can help you!

Sorry I replied to my own post. I work shift irk and I’m half asleep some mornings when I get home. So I replied to my own post like a dummy. Believe what you will but this is the only account I have.

None of this changes the fact that the TX is a POS. Been through two of them and so have many other users. Awesome wheel when it works but their reliability is very poor.

Makes me wonder why this potential fire hazard was not recalled.

Did they ever fix the reliability issues with this wheel?
