Tuning help

Hi everyone! I’m in a series (basically the Continental Tire Sportscar Championship) and I decided to run the Camaro ZL1, since we don’t have the Z28 (yet…). To keep it even with the other cars in the series (BMW M3, Aston Martin DBS, Nissan 370Z, Shelby GT500 (replacement for the Boss), Challenger, Subaru WRX STi-these cars are only 100-200lbs lighter with the parts they’re required to have), my car weighs an abysmal 3981lbs, but keeps its stock horsepower. I really want a good solid tune to stay competitive, as these are endurance races, and the cars weight really is it’s greatest weakness. The tracks we race are pretty much going to be every one of them save Alps, Top Gear, and the Test Track. We can’t use any traction assists or ABS, sim steering is required, and manual transmission as the lowest shifting setting. I have a tune for the series with these required (for the series) parts:

-Race Brakes, Springs, Roll-bars, Rollcage, Street Weight reduction
-Race Drivetrain (everything in this section)
-Race tires, Stock front width, 1st upgrade Rear tire width
-No aero
-BBS RS-GT rims, but any other rims that are as light or heavier than these will do, I run Fiske FM/10s for aesthetic.

My current tuning set-up

I posted the tuning setup I’m running currently in case anyone wants to build off what I have, otherwise anything new is welcome. We’re running Laguna Seca this weekend, and my best time so far is a 1:35.6, with the car plowing enough to where I have to tap the brakes mid corner in the corner after the corkscrew, but I know the car can go faster. Here’s a link to the site if anyone wishes to join-http://forzaproracing.wix.com/thepadock (no, I didn’t make the site, and yes, the leader of the group is criticized daily for his misspelling of the word paddock). Thanks!

There was a thread a while ago where multiple tuners had a go at the ZL1. It may not have the same build as yours but you may find some tips in the thread.

Thanks Eduardo! I’ll take a look. Love your P1 Tamed tune btw.

Thanks that tune has done pretty well for me lol.

Sadly my tuning is inconsistent so some cars are pretty good but then I will tune one that stinks.

Probably same with my driving lol.

But yeah there was lots of debate in that ZR1 thread. Hopefully it will be helpful.

It was interesting to read, thanks a bunch for the link, but the Camaro I’m driving is considerably heavier by 600lbs. I’m wondering how much different the settings suggested would be for this tune. It would be an interesting challenge for a tuner.

not to bad of a rough tune you have posted, my first outing with it i narrowly beat your time by .200 then i started monkeying around with it and here are some suggested setting :

tires :28 front and rear
gearing : fd - 3.42 individual gears default ratios
alignment - camber -2.4F, -2.2R , no toe on the F/R caster 5.0(default)
arbs- 16.40F,13.90R (to get round numbers max the bar out then move it back)
springs - 862.3F/901.3 ride height 5.7F,6.0R
damping- rebound- 9.4F,10.7R bump- 3.1F,2.9R
brakes were at a good balance i upped the pressure to 105%
diff (i generally use a low diff on cars but this one seemed to like the higher accel) 70% accel with at 20% decel

with these settings after 4 laps i was able to achieve a 1:34.755 using the restrictions for assists not a mind blowing faster lap but, it was quick enough for me to want to share it with you.
hopefully these will help you dial the ZL1 in a bit more.

@ SatNiteEduardo you sir are way too fast slow down some more lol and that P1 tune is amazing

Tell that to those 3 seconds quicker than me lol. I think I learn something that improves my driving and still find I have multiple seconds to make up.

PS my suggestion above is simply tweaks to the existing tune. A complete retune would be worth a look. But like I say I have not taken anything on the track yet - too much real life and work at the moment.

I am not in front of my xbox so have not tested this.

Try:
Rear camber -2.8
ARB 13/15 or maybe 14/16 (go higher if you think body roll is occurring)
Bump 3.5 / 3.8

Thanks for the suggestions! I will happily give them a try.

EDIT: Holy mother of God. Both these tunes feel amazing after some slight tweaks-I changed the diff setting to 27% with your idea Eduardo and I almost beat my time, but it didn’t happen due to my bad corner exit strategy for the corner after the corkscrew :(and the other suggestion was great after I lower the diff settings to the way I had them in my previous setup. Hmm…maybe its just how I exit that corner…
Thanks you guys!

hmm that is good news that the settings that SatNiteEduardo and the settings i gave helped out . the corkscrew can be a rough turn in some cars but in this zl1 you can take it in 2nd gear while keeping light amount of throttle applied , after you exit shift to 3rd and roll through the next turn.

I will definitely try that out Reaper, thanks! Also I beat my time-1.34.8. I’m pretty sure I can shave off some more tenths somewhere, but thanks again you guys! I truly appreciate it!
