tune and drive school

please add a tuning school that would give anyone to ability to understand 100% , why , what and how to tune each type of car, offer suggestions on corrections and setups , and add a driving school to help every level of player learn how to shift and drive each type of car properly and the most efficiency , . the drive school could be like a better version of a test drive and you could qualify each car in an A B C D class and gain bonus points or credits

A tuning school or “explanations for dummies” would be a good thing to have, as right now a new tuner needs to do a lot of research to figure out everything.

A driving school is more important however, and the education of how to drive fast and clean is something that the Forza series has largely failed at. Gran Turismo games tend to do this well and with Gran Turismo Sport they are also adding a comprehensive Racing Etiquette guide to prepare everyone for Multiplayer racing.

The Forza community tends to pick up the slack regarding the education of players, but having guides in-game would be of big benefit to the community and playerbase as a whole.

For tuning I rely on ForzaTune and “set-it-and-forget”. If it doesn’t feel good on a particular car I move on with another as I have little idea of how the settings relate to each other. I can dial-in brake balance and do a rudimentary optimization of gearing but that’s it.

And yes the driving school is even more important. I’ve played GT since 2 and while I find that the tutorial and early game is in the grand Japanese tradition of The Grind it’s a lot better than whatever FM is doing right now.

A driving school portion of the game would be nice and could be a lot of fun, however, it should be an optional part of the game. It would absolutely suck if FM forced licenses on the game like GT and blocked portions of the game behind licensing tests.

It would be nice if there was a little tutorial video at the beginning of entering multiplayer that is unskippable that explains what happens if you hit other cars or go off track. It would describe the penalties for hitting cars and other things.

Don’t block off the singleplayer portion with it, but I’d fully support the online portion being blocked behind needing a certain “license”. Don’t have the S class license? Can only race in classes below that online.

That still could be pretty frustrating. What would the tests involve? Getting a certain place without hitting other cars?

I could make the multiplayer etiquette tutorial in one sentence… Don’t hit other cars or cut corners or you will be penalized.

Gran Turismo 6 locks Online Multiplayer behind the A-Class License (which is Level 3 of 6 along the License Test chain).

Gran Turismo 6 was also the cleanest online racing game I’ve ever played, with less than 5 intentional wreckers showing up in 18 months.

I’ll have to go on Youtube to see what is involved in the tests. I haven’t played a GT game since the first one. Just never owned Playstation. When I’m playing online I almost always just run club races or Modern GT Endurance so I’ve been lucky when it comes to crashers and griefers. Usually these guys have short attention spans and don’t like driving in the second half of the field for a race that long. Me, I know I’m not fast but I stick it out till the end. I’d rather have a good race and finish 12th of 16 than win a crash banger.

I think the License System helped with that because everybody that played online would have committed at least an hour or two of focused play before being allowed to play online.

Here’s a quick overview of the National A License, the second tier (I was wrong before, it’s Level 2 of 5, not 3 of 6):

  • Full-Braking into a Corner
  • Approaching a Semi-Blind Corner
  • Consecutive Corners 1
  • Combined Corners 1
  • Driving the Track at Night

By the end of that a player should know how to navigate most basic corners. It doesn’t teach car-to-car racing (Gran Turismo Sport will focus heavily on this) but the biggest challenge for many is to just stay on the track and this helps with that.

I would’ve though the main challenge for most of these players is braking. The braking line shows them when they need to slow down to make the corner safely but it doesn’t change to show them when they should start braking to not hit other drivers in front of them (earlier of course).

The test sounds pretty basic and maybe some minor tests or at least participation events should be done before multiplayer.

do an internet search for “Lotus Tuning Flow Charts”

the licenses could just add bonus points every car you qualify would earn more points like affinity and be selected for drivatar races more often gain you more credits …
