Toyota Fortuner (Gen1)

You might be able to think of it as a Hilux SUV, but obviously, it was. It’s under the same platform alongside Hilux and Innova. They were called the IMV, which is developed for mostly in Southeast Asia.

The Fortuner, is sold in many markets such as Kazakhstan, Pakistan, India, Egypt, South Africa, Colombia, Ecuador, Vietnam, Singapore, Venezuela, Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia. It is also called as Hilux SW4 in 2 South American markets - Argentina and Brazil as mentioned, and it has various engine options such as:

  • 4.0 1GR-FE V6 (shared with Hilux, 4Runner, & FJ Cruiser) - produces 235 HP and 375 Nm of Torque
  • 2.7 2TR-FE VVT-i I4 (Also available as a FlexFuel in select markets) - produces 160 HP and 241 Nm of Torque
  • 2.5 2KD-FTV D-4D Turbo-diesel I4 - produces 144 HP and 343 Nm of Torque
  • 3.0 1KD-FTV D-4D Turbo-diesel I4 (used in the Hilux AT38 already in-game) - produces 163 HP and 343 Nm of Torque

And transmission options such as:

  • 4-speed Automatic
  • 5-speed Automatic
  • 5-speed Manual

Drivetrain options for the Fortuner can be available in either RWD or a part-time 4WD.

I can’t think for a specific choice of this Fortuner, considering that it is a best-seller in the Philippines, even today, in its newest generation model. It is obviously related with the Hilux so maybe I’d go for the 3.0 D-4D option. I bet most Pickups, SUVs, and Vans in my country always utilized 4-cylinder Turbo Diesels, as I knew that Diesels tend to produce more Torque than Petrol. Maybe any model year can do. Might be wanting a Fortuner out here.
