Tips for a noob?

I have Forza Horizon and got really good at it but I was really let down with the lack of tuning and car choices so I figured I’d try out FM4 and obviously it’s alot more complex. What are some tips you can give to a newbie about this game (especially on turning and upgrading)? Also, what are good cars to get? When I got Horizon I didn’t know anything about it so I wasted alot of money on crappy cars (and there’s nothing more frustrating than buying a car and finding out it sucks and selling it for half of what you bought it for like 10 minutes later).

Just gonna have to find a car you like driving, you also win cars buy leveling up and winning races, if you dont know how to tune you can find some good ones on the storefront. I used to come into turns fast but i’d end up coming out of them slow so I started braking in a straight line and turning into the turn and then getting on the gas. Slow in fast out is how you get faster. Use assist if you need to but they will slow you down unless your running S class and up then traction control is almost a must.

Where do you find tunes in the storefront? And I’m a good driver, it’s just that I’m not quite used to the tuning and all the stuff that isn’t in Horizon. I’m installing my discs at the moment so I can’t go on and look for myself. In Horizon I drove with traction control, no brake or driveline assists, standard steering, and manual w/o clutch and plan to do the same in FM4. I simply can’t drive automatic, manual gives you so much more control of your car and makes corners alot easier in my opinion.

first of all is …have fun
tuning and skills build with time and some small effort.
there are sites online that show a complete listing of the gift cars per level, compare performance levels and test drive in free run to see whatcha like.
some achievements depend on having the most expensive cars of an certain make and you get gifted some, look at that list.
there is a lot of info in the tuning forums, and again online detailing what suspension tuning does and how interconnected one system is to another.
dont fall into the trap of throwing all the horsepower a car has and expect it to go R1 class, esp the Veyron,Nissan GT-R etc, some cars are good to great in a level up .
some assists are good to learn with, but nothing beats experience

I know how all the things tie together and whatnot (I actually work as an automotive mechanic) but there’s still alot of experimenting that needs to be done (like what goes well with what on what car). You can have the fastest car in the race but it doesn’t matter if you can’t turn and brake for shit. Should I play single player first to get some cash or would you recommend just hopping straight into multiplayer?

in a word - Rivals.

go race in every Rivals event = make lots and lots of CR, learn the tracks, cars, and improve in the process. run stock cars until you can’t beat your next challenge, then change cars and/or upgrade with the in game auto upgrade, then finally build you own cars and tune. you get paid for laps (win or loose) and receive ever increasing bonus CR for each Rival you beat as you improve.

I was surprised at how much money a Rival’s race gives you. I have been playing off line for a month now, or so… So I got some experience. But the money is definitely better in the rivals.

BTW, I swear it feels like my cars handle a hair better when I’m doing a rivals race. I’ve done Track Days on Road America and a race at Silverstone. I think. Anyways… it just feels a little smoother. Maybe I’m crazy. Or maybe they automatically put on some assists??? Didn’t really look.

First, Congrats on your choice of games. It is a great game. As for the cars to get, be careful in this choice because it could get you kicked out of lobbies. If you run a leader board car and win with it, you are more likely to get kicked from a room.
Now for all the noobs, alot of others can learn from this, when you see a much faster car coming up behind you, move off the racing line and let them by. This will make for a more enjoyable race for you. Meaning you won’t get spun off the track. Another thing, when you run off the track watch behind you so you don’t pull out in front of oncoming cars. And don’t immediately move into the racing line either. If you make an overly aggressive pass and spin someone, do the right thing and give the spot back. It may keep you from getting punted off the track or kicked from the lobby. Just a few helpful hints to make yours and everyone else’s racing experience more enjoyable.
Have fun and have a great day.

Thank you, good tips. I need to get better at looking in my rear view mirror.
