This is why I hate Drivatars

They are impossible to turn off, they drive in the wrong direction around blind corners at high speeds, and they seem to follow you around to the most remote of places and annoy you wherever you go.

I’ve been mumbling this to myself for a while but I’ve been getting more and more annoyed and now I made a video about my most recent incident. I think it demonstrates my point.

Why Drivatars Are Annoying

Constructively, I think there should be an option to turn off both traffic and Drivatars in Online Private Freeroam lobbies. If people want them, they can have them, they can be left on by default. But for those who don’t, I think it would be extremely convenient to be able to turn them off. Same goes with weather and time of day, but I don’t find either of those as frequently annoying. Please implement this if possible! By the next patch if best. It would put the “free” back in freeroam.

PS Is there a more focused area like a suggestion section so that people can make some constructive criticism? Because suggestion threads just get weeded in with all the other threads of various types and it’s hard to try to address problems at that rate.

I’d LOVE to turn off drivatars, especially in SP freeroam. It’d be really nice to cruise around without these morons driving into me all the time.

Exactly.

I’m afraid you are one of the few who are alone with this “bad drivatar” issue, I have not witnessed the behavior you described a single time on FH2 and similarly complained about in FM5. I would suggest trying a higher difficulty. test your strengths. because I have always played from pro-unbeatable difficulties and not once have I had a drivatar act spuratic, impaired, or unguided by sense of direction on either game.

I think you missed what I was pointing out. I don’t have an issue with the Drivatars while racing; it’s a freeroam drivatar issue. You know, where you want to just drive or drift around and not have traffic and drivatars getting in your way. Particularly for drifting, since most of the good drift sections in this game are on public roads, and trying to weave around traffic and reckless drivatars in the way is a nuisance.

Do you still expect to get XP while drifting in freeroam with it all turned off? If no then I can get behind it.

Get better?

I mean really… You had a great run going there, but the guy you face planted in that YouTube video was visible from like a 1/4 mile away. If you can’t drift and avoid traffic on the opposite side of the street - I think you just need to get better. Just my two cents…

I’d also vote for them to be turned off in single player free roam.

I’d also like to see a balance improvement. Sure, upping the difficulty makes them a little smarter but it also makes like 2-3 of them stupid fast in races, meanwhile, the remaining 8 “Drivatars” are left in the dust.

So your saying you havent seen one drivatar just randomly turn in the middle of a straight from the oposite side smash into you for no reason ?

LOL thats BS they were useless on FM5 and now there here to be a right royal pain in my arse on FH2, despite for the most (unusually enough) liking the game a LOT more than i thought i would after the abomination that was FH.
Its quite possibly the only thing that seriously PEEVES me off about the forza series, the AI were shocking but i could deal with them possibly a lot better than these supposedly great learning drivatars that dont learn anything.

I would hate to say that its never going to happen, that being a toggle for AI. If you have the most problem with the other driving AI on freeroam, I would suggest trying a private online freeroam, you should be able to accomplish everything you could in single player there, and no AI Drivers, just a bit of traffic.

My favorite is when they swerve in front of you or stop in the middle if the road for no reason a la Gta style ai.

It is frustrating when they drive head first into you because they put a clump of drivatars on the same road and they become an 80mph car destroyer but otherwise I have had no problems with them. I like that they can be canniving and can cut corners because we are encouraged to do that ourselves.

What really makes me a little crazy is when I’m driving a completely stock land rover defender 90 in the off road championship and I’m struggling to do the better part of 90mph but somehow the drivatar in the same stock land rover can fly by me at what I can only assume is near to 130mph on the straights.

The drivatar system has made upgrading and tuning almost pointless as they always go faster on straights and accelerate better at high speeds. I play on pro or unbeatable difficulty FYI.

I love the challenge this presents but it can get frustrating when I know I can’t go any faster and I get passed up by drivatars doing impossible speeds.

Lol! That is a hilarious video, nice drifting too! Yeah, ive ran into similar situations. But honestly, what would be worse? Drivatars or random players trolling you? But yeah i agree, there should be an option to turn off all drivatars and just have pedestrian traffic. That might be asking for too much though.

If you could turn off the AI than it would make everything less challenging and then everyone would be able to chain everything together so that you can jump up 10 levels in no time and set every record on every camera in the game.

I agree it’s annoying but the car was in their lane when you were drifting in the corner so it’s not like it was aiming directly for your car just to hit you.

I don’t see it being changed and I don’t see the need for it to be changed.

Very similar situation for me. I’ve had it when i’ve been doing a few highway passes to get some nice photos, and I’ll see a Drivitar up the front for a good 2 car “battle” sort of photo. As soon as I get close, they’ll slam their brakes on [On the highway!] and veer off 90 degrees, at a right angle through a field.

And what’s with the amount of contact in this game? Is it just me, or does it seem like a sort of dirty “Destruction Darby” mindset is given to some of the Drivitars?

I have noticed them going off into the fields for no reason, but then again I do that myself just to have fun.

As far as the contact goes, this is what happens when you have “Drivatars” and not AI. It’s not perfect but I prefer the “Unpredictability” of the Driveatars to the “Machine Line AI”

I’m curious about something. Would you be hating AI road traffic as much if it had been just an AI driver and not a drivatar? The car is on the correct side of the road so it’s not driving the wrong way, and judging from the impact it didn’t seem to be speeding either. I’m not really sure how it demonstrates your point of driving the wrong way at high speeds round blind corners.

As for general behaviour, don’t hate the drivatars, hate the drivers. They drive like the players, or at least they’re supposed to. If someone is an aggressive driver and constantly crashes into other players and is generally an asshat, then that’s how their drivatar will behave.

To echo an earlier post, the drivatars are fine in races. The racing in FH is supposed to be zany, so I have no problems with how they drive. As far as the “impossible speeds” they acheive, I can explain it in three words: Corner Exit Speed.

Corner exit seems to be the most important factor to winning here, giving you much higher straightaway speeds.

My big problem is how they behave in freeroam. I’ll just be cruisin’ along enjoying the scenery when a Mclaren comes screaming out of a farmer’s field at 200 kph, right into my car. That sort of thing gets old fast, breaking my immersion and polluting an otherwise stellar game.

Also, on roadtrips, there’s always one drivatar (usually in a hypercar of some type) who will pass me at high speed, brake-check me, then drop back and do it again. Over and over. Anyone else get this?
