…is to get better laptimes, or am I wrong? I try to tune for a long time (with longer breaks, caused by frustration), and I recognise the car behaves different when I tune it, but it not really improve my laptimes. I know all the guides, theoretical know what parts I should set up for what behavior, but I spend a lot of time for an very small effect on my laptimes. Actually I try to tune the BMW 1 Series M Coupe ( C-Class) for Top Gear Full Track. Yesterday I spend 2 hours for tuning it and thought “Oh yes, I´m 2 seconds faster”. Today I drove with the default settings 0.3 sekonds faster than yesterday…
how many seconds do you save with a good tuning on a track like this with a car like this ?
Use a different car. That car sucks for the most part.
Additionally if you want something good for top gear it has to be a grip built car. Usually something that starts in D class and is logically a good handling car from the start like a miata or civic is the way to go if lap times are your only goal.
Build matters more than tune. Once you’ve got that right, then a tune will shave some time off but it’ll vary based on track. From there it’s a matter of rebuilding the car to see if you can find something that’s faster lap time wise.
A common consideration is the type of tires used, adding more or less power, or weight reduction/roll cage.
Sometimes you’ll find several builds that work.
Seems to me you improved your skill at the track. That’ll happen when you tune for a long while.
You wouldnt get far tuning if your is driving inconsistant.
