The camera motion effects

Hi, all.

Maybe this post belongs in the support forum, but I’m not sure.

Overall, I just want to say T10 are some of the best in the business, if not the best.

I just wondered what happened to the (seemingly invisible) camera motion effects? Oddly enough, when turned ‘off’, there is the ‘zooming out’ effect while using chase cam at higher speeds without the ‘shake cam/tunnel vision’ effect. When turned ‘on’, non-existent.

I did read some speculation that the NASCAR content removed the camera effects. I’ve yet to verify this myself.

I’ve been unable to verify if they’ve been deliberately removed, I’ve looked through patch notes, etc.

I apologize in advance if this already is a case closed.

Go Turn 10 and keep making the best racers out there.

Thanks.

I think what you’re specifically referring to is the cockpit wheel shake that was evident at higher speeds when you have cam. mot. effects turned on. And you’re right, one of the updates did away with the wheel shake.

I’d say keep the effects on because turning them off will stretch out the already wide FOV even more.

Hi, Speed Demon.

I know the one you’re referring, but no… I know they did away with that as well, but I’m thinking about the effects that are most evident in FM4 and 5 at the 240-250 mph mark. Any fast car at the Old Mulsanne straight is the best way to confirm this.

Right - the camera shake and corners blacking out partially in the FOV to give a heightened sense of speed while driving at higher speeds. Nope, it’s gone in FM6 unfortunately. FM5’s effect was downright superb. I loved the wind noise effects too though FM4’s wind noise effect was the best: it actually drowned out the engine sound the faster you drove, which is exactly what happens at really high speeds IRL - the closer you get to 200 MPH expecially, depending on the car’s chassis, weight and aerodynamic prowess.

I will never ever understand why they cut out great stuff from previous games when a new one comes out.

Yea lol I just noticed this as well. another thing i would like to point out is the way the camera follows the car, it follows the angle of the car less than previous forzas from what i remember. the lack of angle from camera as the car turns make it more difficult to "feel the way the car is moving and in effect numbs the only sense of the car i can get thus making controlling the car harder. either way i do think forza need to make upgrades to the camera system or at least more options to choose from like an advanced setting or something

Well, in all fairness, I love the chase cam in Forza 6. The sense of speed is great, the motion is okay too, I quite like it. I wish it sat a little lower and more behind the car instead of higher up. I wish they’d introduce some innovate camera effects and trickery instead of a wide stretched out FOV to relay more speed. The FOV in Forza 6 is well… it’s warpy! Especially shows in cockpit view for a number of cars, not all. Anyhow, FM5’s FOV and camera effects were just about perfect.

Thank you guys for replies. When it comes to FOV, Forza could definitely learn from Project CARS’ adjustable FOV. I also preferred the closer chase cams in FM5, so definitely agreed, Speedster996.

I wonder why T10 removed something that worked so great in FM4 and 5.

One reason could be to maintain stability/performance to accomodate the step-up in maximum grid, the rain/weather effects, etc. ? Still, I wouldn’t think the motion effects would take a toll on performance, but…

I’ve also noticed that some subtle camera shake effects seem to trigger when drafting someone at around 160 + mph, but only rarely and briefly… strange.

Since I didn’t get FM6 at launch, I don’t know if the motion effects were always seemingly gone, or subsequently removed in an update.

Still, FM6 is great.

Sure bud, any time!

Well, T10 are known for this - they will always ditch great features from previous games to introduce new ones. It’s as if there’s some kind of features swapping going on… why can’t they retain the good stuff dammit?!

You’re guess on the performance and stability maintainence would be correct - I can’t imagine the console keeping up with the action if it had the same FOV as FM5, I mean there’s night and rain, there’s a lot more cars and richer particle effects, so the zoomed out view has got to be a deliberate design choice to hide some of the low res textures/detail in order to keep the action moving. Clever design choice but then everything looks small including the cars. The tracks sometimes feel like you’re racing on a miniature course instead of a real track. I play other driving games or watch live races on TV and as soon as the cam shifts to the car/driver’s perspective, I go to myself… man, everything looks a lot bigger and ‘in your face’ compared to Forza! Oh well… hope they bring back the FM5 FOV at some point.

I think the camera shaking while you’re drafting is a bit odd - the camera ought to shake as you pick up speed and once you start to draft it should shake less or not momentarily shake at all as wind resistance is cut in half. I’ll say again, FM5 has superb cam motion effects as you pick up speed. I even love the wind noise effect, something which they again (arrgh) either removed or changed too much in 6.

And yes, one of the updates did remove the steering wheel shake in cockpit view. I’m not sure if there was camera shake in the bumper/bonnet cam, but one of the last few updates did introduce a wind noise bug that can be heard in replays - when your car goes really fast you can hear the wind noise effects in the background as if the camera is IN the car. Annoying, and they left it unaddressed despite complaints.

It is a great game though, brings me many hours of recreational pleasure. The issues ought to be ironed out though. I don’t care if FM7 is on the horizon.

I need to try this camera thing out

Speedster : True, the in-game cars have taken a slight hit in LOD compared to FM5, I noticed for example that you can count polygons on the wheel-arches of opponents’ cars in-race (but not photomode). Some car models more than others.

On a sidenote and off topic, custom liveries are of a significantly lower texture quality than the default ones both in-race and in-menus. Custom liveries are also lower res in-game compared to what they are in-menus, but the default liveries in-race seem to roughly retain the texture quality from the menu models fortunately, since FM5.

Good observation. FM5 has crystal clear and razor sharp liveries and the track/car detail is staggering to say the least. Perfect launch title!

However, I’m willing to live with FM6’s slight visual downgrade as the game has a ridiculous amount of content and stuff to do. Never a dull moment.
