Yesterday I popped into my profile to check on something (which now escapes my memory) and had a look at my stats. I noted hours and distance driven, time spent tuning and test driving - all okay.
Then it hit me.
All those hours I spend in the paint booth are totally un-noticed. Uncredited. Ignored. There is no total to show time spent crafting for the game. Tuners are important, their time invested is noted.
How does this make me feel? Well don’t expect me to spend three months painting every single NFL logo for my American friends…
To add insult to injury I am ranked as a master tuner.
Very sadly one more disappointment for me. Have any other painters noticed this?
Yes. Aside from the fact the game seems generally half baked as a whole, the painting just isn’t worth the effort anymore. I give props to those still at it as i got bored of it a long time ago, no point spending weeks creating content for the game to get no real reward for it at the end, thats how i feel about it now. It was different on the past games as it seemed a lot more fun but with the extra layers now it actually does feel like work if you want to make something spot on. Really does make you feel as though you’re creating content for T10 on the cheap, got a nice bunch of volunteers here making bang on replica’s & original paintjobs to “share” with the community & tbh what they get in return for it leaves you feeling a bit empty afterwards.
Finding out the Falken Tire comp was rigged was the killer for me though. There’s a couple of weeks work i & a lot of others will never get back, complete waste of time & bang out of order.
He already knew he had won before voting started. He is involved in a graphics business not far from Falkens headquarters & they admitted this was the case in an e-mail to a fellow contestant.
Well, as a tuner I have spent more than half my (considerable) virtual seat time in test drive mode. All of it unrewarded and unaccounted in the game other than as hours and kilometres noted as an afterthought under Stats. No achievements, no badges or titles, no perfect turn scores, no credits. Twas always thus and it always will be. Point is I am doing it because I enjoy tuning, much as people in the booth enjoy layering up their paints. Of the thousands of paints generated in game, how many are praised and rewarded on a scale commensurate with the effort that went into making them? Probably a very small proportion, but the majority of the painters had a whale of a time anyway. Surely that’s called ‘getting you moneys worth’? Tuning and painting are both more about self satisfaction, simple fun, creativity, and personal achievement than anything else. If you’re doing them for some other reason, you’re probably doing them wrong.
Ive seen people complain that they don’t have any sales and they don’t want to start a thread advertising their paints, I don’t know if its just me but that seems like madness. Also a lot of people don’t comment on others threads and complain they don’t get any comments on theirs and if they do get a comment they at times ignore it. A simple thanks, check on other peoples threads, comment, like paints, start threads to promote paints etc I think would go a long way to helping, but that’s just my thoughts.
I for one have a thread up in the race section but also advertise paints on about 6 other Forza sites and on social media too. Also I kindly spam my friends list to let people know a new paint is out…much to their dislike
But if you want the downloads you have to let people know you have done the work. The system in FM5 is not great and you have to put the leg work in to get the rewards.
Does someone pat you on the back for playing Call of Duty and tell you great job. FIFA, Minecraft, Titanfall, etc? Why would you expect someone to do it in Forza? If you are painting for credit rewards or pats on the back you are painting for the wrong reasons.
Doesn’t feel like a game spending 2 weeks creating something only to find out you were cheated out of it because so & so happened to run a graphics business down the road from them…fun at the time, not so much now.
Also think you’re being a bit naive if you didn’t think anyone that spends time painting to the level some do dont expect some form of flattery or thanks…it’s about showing your stuff off Worm, any person working in the graphics industry thrives on feedback & positive vibes of what they’ve created, they’d be lying if they said otherwise. All of the games you mentioned that i know about dont involve players creating free content for the game itself to be used within it to the level Forza does…do you spend weeks creating kits or stadiums on FIFA or new suits of armour for Titanfall for other to use? No, they’re completely different games & set of circumstances so your argument here doesn’t add up.
If this game wasn’t online or community based how many do you think would stick around painting for the level of time some here have? I know i wouldn’t, i’d be on Adobe doing it there with a lot less hassle involved.
We paint for whatever reasons we want to Worm, none are right or wrong. I dont paint for rewards but a pat on the back or a nice comment for the “work” involved is always welcome.
I felt his designs were very deserving of a finals place ,though i think the one they picked was not his best but his safe option,. If the competition was rigged why did he put such a huge effort into it, multiple designs, photoshop mockups, high quality videos, and appeals to his 5000 facebook friends.
Worm… no harm intended in what I’m about to say, but… artist, like mechanics, love appreciation for time spent and effort. I’m an artist myself, but only as a hobby. I can totally see where this guy is coming from. He doesnt want a pat on the back, he just wants recognition for the time and effort putforth.
yup a little credit goes along way. just like any tuner wants kudos a painter does as well…yes you need to paint for fun but it makes it a lot easier to keep doing if people are gonna support what ya do. some people just dont want to see things in any other view than their own. that works both ways. and everyone should be entitled to their opinion and shouldnt be trolled or antagonized for having one
I myself do not paint on Forza, but the buyer is not looking the time it took, he’s looking FOR THE LOOK. That, SpeedRunner, is being extremely pretentious.
As someone who doesn’t paint by his own admission you’re pretty quick to sling a bit of mud. Seems to me that the opinions from others above suggest all is not well within the painting community. Let’s even the playing field, remove all the stats relating to tuning and building as well. Oh no, here come the upset tuners…
One thing I am not, nor ever have been, is pretentious. Your comment is unnecessarily offensive…
I am not a painter, and I was a month late starting the game but I have managed to get all 3 painting achievements without doing any advertising. I get a small but steady income of around 10-12k per day. How did I do it? I produced some decent vinyls and when the latest DLC was released, layered them on 3 or 4 of the most popular cars and shared them on the first day. I have managed more than 100 downloads on each car, heading towards 200 likes. Similar designs on launch cars released with the game have produced only a handful of downloads. The moral is get in early while the number of available designs are low.
This just manages to show how poor this systems is for finding good paint, you shouldn’t have to resort to rushing a simple paint (no offence meant) just to get downloads. Your probably making more than talented people that are putting a lot of effort and time into painting. I agree your just doing what it takes to get downloads and don’t blame you, but this doesn’t address the op’s point.
I painted a car black and wrote “crap paint job” . I was the second paint for that car and now Its recommed. I get aroud 20k a day for this and the Bad paints I put up first. The system is broke
I have 1 paint that’s turn 10 select (contest winner) and has a lot of downloads, but have many others just as good that seem to be gone and forgotten about. Creating threads and pictures and all that just shouldn’t be necessary.
The problems is your paints get buried in a sea of awful one or two layer paints and the fact that there is no way to filter the poor paints out. It makes it too much of a pain to look for good paint jobs, previous Forza’s at least had most downloaded or highest rating this game has none of that. Some one once suggested a filter for anything that has less than 20 layers this would be very helpful and probably get rid of 90 percent of the junk.
Also you should get something for downloads even if it isn’t much, to at least feel like you didn’t totally waste your time. I mean someone getting 10,000 credits for 20 downloads or a badge or something isn’t exactly going to wreck the economy of this game is it? It seems they went way to far for the sake of microtransactions
And speaking of downloads why is there no way to view the paint without it counting as a download? Then having to find and delete it if you don’t like it, do too the immense power of the cloud we now have limits on how many paints and tunes we can have. If this is what next gen has to offer I’m disappointed.
I feel bad for you guy!! The paint search system is god awful. There is so much garbage to weed through, I gave up looking for great paints. Now keep the stock or paint them all black. Why they didnt keep forza 4 search option is be on me.
