As most of you know there is alot of discussion going around as to why toyota is not included in forza and need for speed payback.
Today i stumbled upon a video discussing this and it linked an article about the reason why toyota is not allowing their cars in racing games
The article will be linked below (assuming this is allowed) but i will include the most important part from the article below.
‘’ Car sales are down in Japan, and young adults are less interested in automobiles. Instead of blaming that on a grim economy or even good public transportation, Toyota has apparently found another culprit: video games.
In a piece in the evening edition of Osaka’s Mainichi Newspaper, there’s an editorial on the “date car” by journalist Masahiro Kawaguchi. Kawaguchi talks about how the slide in new car sales started in the 1990s and even connects the current decline in population to the car apathy that exists among young men. “Guys used to work hard at their job so they could get a stylish, cool car for girl’s to ride in.”
Even more interesting than that connection is what Kawaguchi quotes a Toyota exec as saying: “Home game machines are no good. Playing something that realistic makes the need for cars disappear.”
Now i can not confirm 100% that this is indeed the reason that is why the title says ‘‘alleged’’ but it would make sense even though i think the reason is crazy.
Thank you for reading.
That’s quite funny to be honest, from what I know(as a below 30 year old) the main reason for us not wanting to buy cars is because A) the cost of owning a car is high(not just the initial cost but all the things with it like fuel, insurance, etc.) and B) there are already too many cars on most major city streets which makes driving frustrating especially in cities where there is a decent transport networks that are more affordable(plus you might get to work in quicker time compared to driving there, especially for inner city jobs). So basically it is just an old man yelling at clouds because young people are changing how they get around based on the current climate, but picking an easy target i.e. video games as the main blame instead of the actual problems… I hope other manufacturers don’t follow Toyota’s strange logic.
…really? THIS is their reason??? Toyota dosen’t even really make “stylish, cool” cars anymore.
Just look at their current lineup, the only car that would fit the keywords “stylish” and “cool” would be the GT86. Remember when they used to make Supras, Celica convertiblets and the likes?
You sure you aren’t thinking of Gran Turismo? Their Supras and a few other Toyota’s(along with about 600 other cars) looked like first Xbox models, whilst Forza’s looked really good and certainly looked great in Xbox One games plus at least Forza’s models had an actual interior modelled.
That is why this is not confirmed, but we do not know their full sales figures so as i stated, i do not know this for sure but if back then they already had this idea that video games caused this it wouldn’t be too weird to assume that they did what they did because of that reason, because i can’t imagine another one, it’s not just forza, it’s almost all racing games that are yet to be released.
Take a look at PC2 and it’s toyota production cars included, just because they didn’t release an official statement like FM7 and NFSP doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen to them.
As with GT Sport, they don’t have many production Toyotas apart from two versions of the GT 86(same as PC2), every other car on their list is either a concept vehicle or a race car. So there really is something going on at Toyota HQ, whatever it is we wont find out(unless a neighborhood friendly leaker within Toyota decides to make it public).
Seems a bit silly to me for a company like this to drop probably the only thing that would keep car people interested in them. Aside from the GT86, Toyota hasn’t made a car that appeals to car people in what? Over 10 years? Reminding people that they actually made some cool stuff and not just the Camry and Prius seems like it would be a good thing for the brand.
Yeah, this is rather silly, especially in the context of track-based racing games. Do a remotely significant portion of Toyotas sales come from people who take their cars to track days? If not, why would this matter? Racing games don’t take away from the ‘driving feel’ of being stuck in traffic in a Prius lol.
I didn’t realize that I could drive to work, take trips or go to the grocery store in a video game car. Toyota wins dumbest company of the year for a comment that is both completely idiotic and nonsensical. I guess they need an excuse to explain why people hate their ugly designs and don’t want their cars. There were only a few in the game anyway. Now less people will want your cars. lol Good riddance.
Saw a video late last night from a youtuber BOURNE5ive talking about this very thing. I think it’s insane and laughable. Toyota has apparently lost their freakin minds! It’s a shame really.
Interesting that the FIA says just the opposite of that view - they see e-sports in the F1 2017 game as a way to promote real life F1 amongst the youth.
Started watching some of his videos recently, seems to put out decent content.
E-Sports F1 interests me personally about as much as real F1 does, if not less. By that I mean I’ve found painting my garden fence more exciting than watching F1 in recent years.
Just because you don’t care for Formula 1 doesn’t mean that others don’t, and I can’t see how it could be argued that people playing with F1 cars on F1 tracks in a video game could be anything other than a positive for F1, and that the crossover in the fans wouldn’t be a positive for the game either.
I mean, I don’t really care for F1 either, and have very little interest in watching E-Sports, but it would great to see some series want to have more involvement with the gaming side in an effort to increase interest in their own series and bring the fanbases together. Imagine how good a Blancpain GT expansion would be for Forza, bringing up-to-date and (and balanced) GT3 cars, Hungaroring or Zolder from the schedule, maybe driver change functionality for endurance races and so on.
There are several international series and some national “top tier” series that could provide great content to the series if a partnership were to be struck and executed properly.
If you want up to date GT cars, GTR3 launches next year. TAConnor, like it or not F1 has a much larger global footprint than the series you prefer so they get more play in games. They will likely never be fully represented in Forza because it would detract from the F1 series but I’d be surprised if Forza went full on for one of the regional national GT series.
