My real name is Micah. I was surprised to see it’s in the game. But a LOT less surprised when I heard it. No. Sorry, it’s not MEEEEEKAH. It’s My-kah. It’s Biblical. If any one of you read the Bible as kids, you might actually know that. Or…the rock Formica. Mica is pronounced the same was just add an h at the end. Mica Burton pronounces her name differently because it’s short for another name. Please, for all the Micah’s in the world, fix this. Heck, you can put it into Google Translate and it says it correctly. Research is important, people.
I’ll back this up; I don’t know you, but I do know that the name Micah comes from the same Hebrew root as its relative Michael, and that the Mi part more or less has to be pronounced the same way across both names because of it. It’s been a loooong time, and I know very little about Hebrew, but if I remember right, the names Michael, Micah, and others like them, come from a Hebrew question like “Who is like God?” and so the pronunciation of the parts shared across names should never be changing.
Many apologies to people who do know a lot about Hebrew, if I’ve gotten that wrong. Google backs me up but you never know
Many words and names are pronounced differently these days by the hip crowd or “IN” crowd.
Yes it is wrong but it is hip to be wrong.
Just watch some of the popular streamers and hear what has happened to language.
It would be awesome if they fixed Micah and added Meekah for the hip crowd. I wish you luck but it may depend if the voice actor is still in the building.
And then you have people that pronounce the way it is in the game
Be happy that it’s even in the game…let alone spelt the same way as you
A lot of people dont
Dude, relax. There’s far more important issues that need to get fixed. The game not working for some people, crashing, sound problems etc. Wrong or right, It’s just a name, not the end of the world. I’m sure there’s many people even without their name in the game.
Name can also be pronounced differently around the world bare in mind. My surname is Mulcahy and here’s how I’ve heard it pronounced in different countries:
England = MUL-KAI
Ireland = MUL-KA-HE
Scotland = MUL-KAY-HE
I use pronounce it the English way, or how I’ve heard the English pronounce it because I am English but where I live in Ireland they don’t pronounce it the same and my Scottish friends pronounce it way differently.
Also they don’t HAVE to pronounce it pronounce it the way do. No one does.
You know, 10 days from release, Playground isn’t actually all that focused on making the demo work. They’re focused on getting everything ready for the launch of the game. So you’re point is moot. But you’re right. Lisa isn’t in the game, which is actually kind of impressive. But, I don’t think the Lisa’s of the world would be as happy if they got their name in the game and the announcer pronounced it Lie-za. Or Leza. They’d be like, ‘What? Have you not watched the Simpsons?’
Yeah, but if you read the second post in this thread, you can see my name comes from a Hebrew name and that it’s a variation of Michael. Which, I guess if you’re Greek can be pronounced differently, but…i don’t know. It spoils it a bit when you see your name and hear it pronounced incorrectly in something like this.
Nope. You’re all right. I shouldn’t expect professionalism from Turn10, Microsoft and Playground Games. Especially after Forza 7…and Halo 5. I’ll just do what I did in the demo and…no use my name because…I’m overall not that important. ONE customer amongst 200,000 isn’t going really affect much. I apologize for thinking I mattered in anyway to the developers. It’s a minor issue. I know. And I’m pretty chill about it really. I’ve just had to deal with people pronouncing my name wrong for 36 years. I also figured I’d be helpful. But, I forgot this is a gaming forum. A racing game forum at that. No one cares.
Adding a different pronunciation of a name isn’t professionalism? You may pronounce it Micah, but others may pronounce it Meekah, in the end, somebody somewhere isn’t going to have their name in the game or if it is it may be pronounced differently.
You can please some people some of the time, but you can’t please all the people all the time.
I’ve had my name mispronounced, even nowhere near what my name is, I have never once screamed and cried over it. It’s not even close to anywhere near what 99.9% of people who consider a big deal, nor is it game breaking. I’d much rather they fix actual bugs that something that matters to very few people.
I mean no offense by this post, but it is what it is, dude.
I knew how its pronounced but dude you are making a big deal out of nothing,coming across snobbish even,lighten up a little or you will never make it to 61 like me!!My son had a friend with same name.
It’s not going to change no matter how childish you get ha theirs more to life then a video game pronouncing your name correctly. Just enjoy the game for what it is. Just pick from the nicknames tab. They have ‘My Lord’, i bet you’d love that one
