Thanks for the insight.
Just a heads up, but Forza Motorsport still isn’t working, even with the latest Proton Experimental build from last week.
Just touching base on this. Motorsport still isn’t working when running even with the new Steam Client Update for Steam Deck.
Just an update: Forza Motorsport still isn’t working even with the latest Proton Experimental from August 8, 2024.
I spoke with a Wine developer and they said Proton could stub Gaming Services (essentially make a fake one) and it could get the game to run, but without online features.
But if you have a Windows install by any chance, could you try copying over the Gaming Services files onto Forza Motorsport’s Proton prefix (I’m not exactly sure where, but copy them to their equivalent location). Also, try to export the Gaming Services registry keys (they will be at [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServices] and [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\GamingServicesNet) and import them to the game’s Proton prefix’s registry with Protontricks.
Lmk if this works.
This is excellent news! I would love to help but unfortunately I don’t have a Windows install that I can test this on.
Unfortunately the game without online features I assume it is useless, as rivals or even the career mode needs permanent connection. So it will be only for free play mode.
Free play mode would be better than nothing
Well I mean, the only way we could get the game running fully is if Turn 10 intervened.
Heck, for Turn 10, it could be as easy as distributing the required components somewhere in the game’s folder structure. If I understand logistics correctly, it may only take a bit of development time to do this.
Btw, if you are able to, can you explain what your Forza Insiders status means? Just curious.
EDIT: Looking into the Forza Insiders program, I see you have some sort of direct communication with the Turn 10 developers. Can you relay this to them please?
I second this. @Kesselring1987, can you please relay this potentially easy fix to the developers (Turn 10)?
It could mean thousands more players joining the community and result in the Forza Motorsport franchise getting a significant boost.
This post is in the right place, suggestions hub is where dev team look for the requested features by the players.
However, I would bring this issue in the insiders program if possible, thanks
The silence is deafening on this issue.
If you want a little update, someone has gotten Gaming Services partially running under Proton: Forza Motorsport (2440510) · Issue #7151 · ValveSoftware/Proton · GitHub (go to the last several comments). The game still doesn’t boot however.
It required copying Gaming Services from a Windows install and it could take awhile to get Gaming Services fully running since Proton/Wine only has basic UWP support as of now.
But as I said in another comment, Turn 10 should just ship Gaming Services as part of the game itself so Valve can do the dirty work of getting it working since, as stated, it can already partially run.
Thank you for the update! I agree, Turn 10 needs to step it up.
I hear a lot of silence from Turn10.
Radio… silence
It kinda feels like we’re the only two still waiting for this to come, but I’ve basically given up hope with how Turn 10 still can’t get other things straight (and I’m pleasantly surprised I still check regularly despite my pessimistic mindset)
And reiterating the same thing I’ve been saying for awhile, but it might not take much effort if they just distribute the required components within the game itself. This would mutually beneficial for everyone as PC players won’t have to worry about installing it themselves and Steam Deck players should finally be able to play. If we want further evidence of how easy it can be, let’s look at Grounded, another XGS title. They just made some tweaks to what was used (in this case, they changed how the speech synthesis software was used on Steam Deck) and a few other things to get it from unsupported to Steam Deck verified.
It’s probably nothing new, but I noticed another Xbox title (under Bethesda), Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, seems to also use Gaming Services as it comes with the repair tool like FM (https://steamdb.info/depot/2677662/)
So now I’m baffled about how that game launches, but not this one.
My previous reply was deleted by staff, so I will leave you with this:
I agree. The pathway to support appears to be there, and perhaps it wouldn’t take much effort to pursue. We can only know for sure when Turn 10 sets their eyes on this, but so far it’s just crickets.
Hi everyone,
It’s clear that many of you here are passionate about improving Steam Deck compatibility. With that in mind, I believe you might also be interested in my feature proposal: Include Xbox Gaming Services in the Steam Version of Forza Motorsport.
This proposal addresses the challenges Steam Deck users face when trying to run the game. If this resonates with you, please consider voting for the feature! Together, we can make Forza Motorsport more accessible for everyone.
Thank you for your support!
Thanks a lot for this! People like you are a big help!
