Suggestion for improving livery management

My apologies if this has been brought up before.

But since it seems like the developers are listening to feedback and updates are made often, I have a QOL suggestion.

I love downloading liveries. I had 300 before they raised the cap, and now I have 500 saved. That’s great. But the problem is that sorting through them and finding the ones I want to load is a nightmare.

As far back as Horizon 1, there was a way to ONLY view liveries that applied to your current car that you were driving. This was, obviously, great. I could get in a new car, and instantly go to liveries for just that car and load the one I want.

But now, unless I am missing something obvious, I have to load and scroll through all 500 liveries to find the one I want for a current car. This takes a while when you have 500 liveries saved.

On to point #2. Because I have 500 liveries, and sometimes more than one per car, the best thing I can do to help myself is have liveries for the same car grouped together, so that I don’t have to look in several different spots for the liveries for the one car I want to apply a livery too. But the problem is that if I have saved a couple liveries a long time ago, and then saved new liveries for other cars afterwards, and then find I want to download a new livery for that car I had a couple liveries for before… the liveries are no longer all grouped in one spot in my livery list. See the problem? So what I do now, which is HUGE PAIN, is I go back and redownload all those older liveries so that they reside in the same spot as the new one. Doing this sucks. A lot.

So what I am suggesting is 2 simple QOL improvements that would make things a lot simpler for people who like to download and use a lot of liveries:

  1. have a feature that lets you filter liveries that you have saved to only display ones that apply to your current car.

  2. have a sorting feature for liveries. It would be nice to be able to sort by make/model and also by designer if possible. That way, if I download a new NSX livery and I had 2 NSX liveries saved before, I can resort and have all the NSX liveries in one spot.

Those 2 things would make livery management so much easier.

If those features ARE in the game and I’m somehow missing it… well I feel dumb. And I’d appreciate knowing how to find those features.

It just seems odd that it was easier to manage liveries in Horizon 1.

And while I’m asking for QOL updates, here’s another idea:

Would it be possible for the livery browser to show what car a livery is for?

I mean, I know most of the major cars, and can figure out what car most liveries are supposed to be for, but every now and then there’s a car I just don’t recognize. Or a car that has many similar variants and so I just have to figure out which version the livery is for by trial and error (if the designer hasn’t kindly included the car name in the name of the livery).

This should be an easy thing, right? Showing the name of the car in the livery description? It would help so much.

Thanks for reading.

There is not currently anything like that in the games to allow sorting and filtering like you suggest. The painting community has been asking for something similar with respect to saved vinyls for years … but it’s a good idea to also extend that to saved liveries, saved tunes … anything saved really. We have also asked for a folder structure system, where vinyls could be grouped in folders like files on a PC. Also the ability to add a custom nickname or description up to the user … as well as the ability to have multiple custom favorite lists.

They should use FM4 as a model on how liveries and auction house is handled. And I hate when I simply paint a car in another factory color its handled as a saved design.

Yes! I hate that!

I know for sure that some earlier games I played (like Forza Motorsports 4 maybe?) treated design liveries and base paint colors as 2 different things.

You could change the base color of a car to another color and it would save the color change but not consider it a new livery, taking up a livery slot.

It sucks now, because so many cars come in to my garage via wheelspins, challenge rewards, or forzathon shop purchases and you can’t pick the car color for any cars that you acquire in those ways. And more often than not, the color I am given is not the color I would have chosen for myself. But since I have a lot of elaborate liveries saved, I can’t spare a ton of slots for simple color changes. So I am stuck with a lot of white, silver, and red cars, when I would prefer colors like blues and greens and oranges and yellows.

Can we get an update that allows us to do a simple base color challenge without taking up an entire livery slot? If not in this game, maybe in the next one?

Or hey, maybe just let us pick our color when we win a car from challenges/wheelspins/etc??

Factory colours scrolling me off… annoying! I make an edit to my cars to put them back at the front.
