Sticky Weather and Time

So I was thinking, what most open world games lack is the option to make the game world… Well yours. Sometimes I want to log into a game and play all at night in the rain. Other times I want to log in and have it be foggy with a normal day/night cycle. Things like Native Trainers in GTA make this possible. I am able to “freeze” the time and weather to what I want and have fun in an open sandbox. So I was thinking how could this be Implemented into Forza and not be game breaking and I think I have a solution. Much like the GTA Game Trainer, you could have a system of menus that allows you to freeze time/weather for single player and Multiplayer. So here’s what I think the menu should look like.

Time and Weather settings tab: Clicking on the Time or Weather tabs would load up an options menu to change it.

Single Player:
-Time

  • Default (Full Cycle)
  • Never Night (goes through the day time cycle, but the sunset turns into the sun rise.)
  • Never Day (Same concept as above, just the reverse with the sun never actually rising.)
  • Always Noon
  • Always Midnight

-Weather

  • Default
  • No Weather (always clear with clouds and what not.)
  • Always Rain
  • Always Foggy
    Etc.

Multplayer:
-Time

  • Default
  • Never Night (goes through the day time cycle, but the sunset turns into the sun rise.)
  • Never Day (Same concept as above, just the reverse with the sun never actually rising.)
  • Always Noon
  • Always Midnight

-Weather

  • Default
  • No Weather (always clear with clouds and what not.)
  • Always Rain
  • Always Foggy
    Etc.

Now I know what you might be thinking. “This would be game breaking because some people would have X weather in a lobby with people who have Y weather.” and the answer is simple. In Co-op, the weather patterns will be the “Hosts” single player weather, changeable at any time through the menu. How that would work is if say I was on sticky noon, and changed it to night time only. It would unstick from noon, and follow the default weather patterns until it hit night, than it would stay at night until the user changed the settings again. (Same concept for weather.)

If you join an Online Lobby, you will join a server that has you “pattern”. So if for instance, I join an Always night, always rain server and invite a friend, he will be brought into the always night always rain server, regardless of his own settings. (Maybe have a prompt saying “This Game Lobby has X and Y settings different, do you wish to proceed?”) But at any time I would be able to change my settings and find a new lobby and be able to join like minded individuals who want the same weather/time patterns as me. I think this would give us more options as to how we want to play this game without being stuck with the typical day night/weather cycle, because after all, this is a game about driving cars right and sometimes you want the conditions to be just right.

So whats your thoughts on a system like this being implemented into Forza? Would you like this/dislike this and do you have any concerns about what this may or may not do? I personally don’t see why this couldn’t be implemented by the release or maybe even after the release.

Edit: For the weather, I would also like to see a “Dynamic” and “Static” versions. So lets take rain for example. We can have “Always rain” In both Dynamic and Static. Dynamic would entail that the rain falls harder, and softer, sometimes even coming to a drizzle or stopping completely for a minute or two, like in a real storm, where sometimes it falls heavier than other times, and sometimes it falls lighter. Static would be just consistently raining with no break, just always one pouring. Now this would probably be much harder to implement and would (IMO) complicate the processes and server populations even more. But I think it would be a nice touch if It was done, although it may be overboard.

good idea but sadly unlikely :frowning: probably to late to add

Very interesting ideas there. And you’re most likely right about it being quite extreme to implement I just open hoppers or open Multiplayer mode.

It could be something that could be implemented in a career mode perhaps. But that could disrupt the outcomes that are determined by how one races in the game etc.

Great idea though, and vey well thought out. Big :+1::+1::+1: thumbs up mate for the huge effort and thought that’s gone into it. Cudos mate…

This is a must add feature! Surely they could add this in, in time!

Or even as a patch update!

If it’s not included yet, which I doubt, it would require considerable resources to build it into, not only the career/single player mode, but to build it into the whole mess that is commonly known as Multiplayer.

I’m sure there might be some weather dynamics included, as Australia’s Top End s renowned for its tropical storm fronts. So the possibility of facing some severe storms could be in the mix.

Plus a faster dynamic day/night sequence could well be included, as it’s aimed at a continual timeline for the player to get a deeper sense of total immersion So I’d expect a shortened night period.

And perhaps a reasonable dynamic weather built into it as a default setting. But allowing a very diverse set of options would require some seriously solid work on their part.

Work that could we’ll be best served in delivering better handling vehicles, more precise individual car characteristics (true handling and engine specifics etc) as that’s what most players want.

I’d love for that great idea to be included, perhaps we could see something like this in the next Motorsports title.

In the end,me ALL. Could be wrong and right off the garden path. So time will tell, and we’ll know more in a few weeks time. As I think a demo might well drop soon… Fingers crossed.

But once it’s out in the wild, there’s very little chance a major change would occur.

I know other games have had ‘similar’ features, but in a game that’s delivering a message ch higher level of precision detail, some cuts are needed in order to deliver a stable game on the onset.

I don’t believe it would. Rivals events were always at fixed times and weather conditions. Same with showcases.

The game randomly determines which weather pattern to transition to next. The variable can be overridden with a user entered parameter and then weather can be fixed.

Likewise for time of day, just freeze it like in the events.

It’s probably quite a simple function that already exists and just needs to allow user overrides.

Burnout Paradise had this feature to some extent.

Ill cut my rists (jk) if night times are shortend, they are already short enough :,(

truly don’t see why it can’t be an easy option to set the time/weather ect of your own choosing in the menus; you do so at any freeroam race event; however I doubt this will happen. If i had it my way I would set the game clock at a sunny 10am and leave it there.

I think you should at least be able to choose the weather when you go out for a free roam drive. I remember the weather patterns started annoying me on FH2. It always started raining after about the first 5mins of my first free roam session of the evening. I must have put 350hrs into that game in career and freedom mode so you start to see the patterns after a while. The day/night cycle and weather always went funny when you stopped to change cars too. I definitely think there should be more control over the time speed and weather conditions when you’re in free roam/career mode. Like Project Cars uses the time of day where you are from the clock on your Xbox.

Totally agreed about the patterns, it just felt like you could never get a sunny drive… in freaking Italy.

It would be even worse if you couldn’t get a sunny drive in Australia xD

oh yeah! winter is comin in future DLC, i hope  Tasmanie ?

I seriously hope this is a feature, as rain suddenly interrupting a drift session isn’t a good thing, and this would be a fantastic addition. What if we want it to be perpetually night and raining for a challenge or Machinima in free roam?

Personally I don’t mind the rain interrupting, adds in a factor that can happen in real life. Plus it tends to make you a more skilled driver by throwing unexpected changes your way and making you have to adjust or crash. But with the new Drone Mode it would really help with Machinima’s if we re able to change the time and weather.

Well this might work with Blueprint bot not in reg freeroam

You could go into blueprint, set the race conditions, start the race and then pause the game and backout of the race.

I know this would be really annoying if you wanted to keep time at a certain point continuously, but it is the closest we’ll get I think.
