I know this isn’t the first time this topic has been brought up, but there’s an aspect of the game that’s existed since launch that needs to be addressed: cars with unpaintable windshields and windshield banners/sunscreens.
This is an issue that has plagued Forza Motorsport since launch and has significantly hindered the creative community. Of the dozens of GT3, TCR, prototype, and other race cars that feature windshield banners or sunscreens, only a handful can actually be painted. There seems to be no rhyme or reason behind which are paintable, which makes the problem all the more frustrating.
For example, in the touring car class, only three cars have windshield banners that can be painted, recolored, or redesigned so that custom liveries can feature sponsors above the windshield (Mercedes, Honda, & Audi). Of the remaining cars in the class, some have their banner reset to yellow, others to white, and the rest revert to black.
The most frustrating part of this all is it seems like a complete lottery when a new car is added to the game whether or not the windshield banner is paintable. There is no pattern with manufacturer, car division, model year, the date the car was introduced to Motorsport, or any other traits.
Why is this a problem?
In almost every motorsports series on the planet, cars feature advertisements on their windshield banners/sunscreens. Whether they feature a manufacturer name and class designation like in IMSA, a series sponsor like in the MX-5 Cup series, or a driver name and number like in the V8 Supercars series, every race car with a windshield banner features some form of customization.
In a motorsports-focused game with such a creative livery community, the ability to accurately and fully replicate one’s favorite driver’s or team’s livery depending solely on the random chance that the developers decided to make the windshield banner paintable is a serious issue.
Solution
Aside from going back through and redesigning the UV maps on all of the purpose-built racecars in the game, what’s the solution? Add an additional sub-menu to the livery editor that allows drivers to fully paint the front and rear windshields. Let us replicate our favorite drivers’ liveries on every car.
