Steering feel on controller can feel sluggish, especially around the centre

Does anybody here feel that the steering feel and speed on a controller is somewhat sluggish? It seems to me like there is an invisible deadzone during the first 3-4% of movement on the left analogue stick even though my deadzones are 0/100.

All of the previous FM games seemed to be more responsive, especially around the centre. In FM23, I find myself giving way too much steering input even around high speed turns.

What are your thoughts on this?

Do you think the game will benefit from additional settings like steering linearity, speed sensitivity, hidden aids on/off toggle, hidden countersteering assist on/off - stuff like that.

Let’s discuss.

Best I’ve felt personally. Are you running at 60fps?

All I have to say, if you get too big input on corners, that’s just means u are going to slow into corner. With how Forza handles controllers (or u don’t steer at all while using slip angle), u are supposed to take every corner with full steering input. (Just occasional counter steer when car slips).

But I overall don’t feel any deadzone but it’s probably because of my “tap” input style (og Xbox x/s controller on PC)

Absolutely.
It’s a glaring omission.
I’ve voted on every post I’ve seen related to this in the Suggestions Hub. :headstone:

Thanks for including the links! Voted on all of them.

Yes, and it’s even more noticeable on faster (P, X) cars where it feels like ~15% dead zone. That’s also the reason everyone is twitching left-right on the straights, often creating dangerous situations.

Absolutely, would be even better if there was global and per car settings so everyone could achieve maximum control in their cars and make online racing a bit safer.

Which steering are you using? Sim or normal. In answer to question I can’t say I have.

Too touchy for me esp sim steering. Open wheeled is almost impossible even running 29-32 deadzone. Have been using normal steering but I know I’m missing out from the sim steering.

I use normal because I have no idea how to counter-steer on sim steering with a controller. Steering wheel in cockpit view is too slow to show what your wheels are actually doing. Although I think I managed it with light taps when I tried once but it’s not that consistent and the danger it creates for others simply isn’t worth it.

Ehhh, you really don’t. It doesn’t offer much except unintuitive counter-steering

You basically can’t counter steer with with sim. I mean you can bit 50% of the time it will end badly. Try pushing the stick up and making smaller inputs.
It’s harder but will make quicker 100%

What do you mean by 29-32% deadzone?

I thought any and all deadzone was bad

That’s the only way I drive stick forward and rock it left to right to be smooth.

Dead zone is how far you have to move the stick before the game recognizes input . Tried to make it less touchy being on 29-32 inside deadzone

Wouldn’t that mean you have the exact opposite problem then what the OP is complaining about?

My steering has always felt too sensitive so idk about op. But that’s what I’ve done to combat that touchy steering 29-32 inside deadzone and 100 outside. And normal can finally get a decent lap time.

You’re the first person I’m coming across who has said this. Everyone else is saying the centre feels dull and numb, unlike previous Forzas, yet you are experiencing the opposite.

So you flick the stick to turn? You have assists on? Is sim steering on?

This can’t be.

I have this type of flick steering, I always use full steering input when turning, and just flick the stick when I need to counter steer, or just make slight correction. But tbh it makes no difference to me if sim steering is on or not.

It’s like playing on keyboard sometimes.

Having a DZ can help some when they steer stick up using sim especially when counter steering. I used to do this as well

No I push my steering joystick forward and keep it there and rock it left to right to steer so I can be smooth. But those open wheeled cars or the super cars man they are super touchy can barely drive them.
No assist besides abs on hand control

Any other game I use sim steering and it works just fine. But this was too sensitive for dad and I on this game. Since we switch it to normal it’s been a lot better.

If you can stretch to the elite series controller really helped me with the longer LS. Gives more finesse and a DZ if you use stick up can defo work for some. Though there are disadvantages to the DZ but I know people who swear by it
