So I’ve spent a bit of time this morning testing out this issue.
A friend was telling me about how his steering would not work occasionally on some corners and the car would go straight on even though he was moving his stick the same as normal. It has been happening to him for a couple of weeks at least as far as I know. The first time he told me we were both driving a tune I had made for the '76 Ferrari 312 T2 and I didn’t get the issue when he did. Well it started happening to me as well this weekend, first time it happened was either Friday night or Saturday morning and it has been happening regularly ever since. It feels like some one has suddenly disconnected the steering on the car, but it returns after you have let off all the controls and try again. I have racked my brains trying to think what might have changed in the game or anything I might have done that would be causing it and can’t come up with anything.
-
I’m positive it’s not a setup issue as it has happened on a variety of cars stock and tuned (even tried driving in test drive mode to correct it through tuning as had been trying a couple of new things recently including much lower caster on some setups - but nothing made a difference better or worse) and as above my friend had it where I didn’t driving the same car/setup/track.
-
It has happened at a variety of tracks, but usually on the same corners, but that seems to be more related to the type of corners they are than anything wrong with the track per se. Feels like it is when turning in with some throttle applied, for example turn 1 at Lime Rock Park or the fast kink after the tight hairpin at Hockenheim amongst others.
-
It has happened in single player and multiplayer so pretty sure it’s not a lag or connection issue.
-
I have made sure I’m running the latest updates/firmware for my console, game and control pad (official Microsoft wireless pad).
-
Using the same pad since I started playing FM6 so not a new pad issue.
-
I was looking at my stats with a friend last week before it started occurring to me and had clocked well over 9,000 miles at this point and with the issue being so severe and noticeable I would have picked up on it already so something has changed in the last couple of days to cause the issue I believe.
-
As far as I’m aware there’s not been an update in the last couple of days so I don’t believe that to be a potential cause either (along with the fact my friend has experienced it for longer than me, since before the last update).
-
I’m a pretty competent driver on Forza with some top 100 and top 50 times, I would be happy to say that my driving is not the issue. Definitely not a case of locked brakes or understeer as there is no tire squeal.
-
My driving style or skill level hasn’t changed in the last few days.
-
I did change some HUD options on Friday to run some hotlaps in rivals mode without the distraction of a map or split times etc. Have turned the options back to what I had before and still getting the issue.
-
I have checked to make sure none of my assists have changed (No ABS/STM/TCS, sim steering, manual with clutch, cosmetic damage and mostly use just the braking line) as I know there was an issue with that for some. None of the assist lights are coming on anyway. Also my friend has tried normal and sim steering and it happens on both apparently.
-
I have checked that my deadzones are all still set to the values I changed them to when I first got the game having worked out what to use while playing the demo (although I don’t think I actually moved the steering deadzones). Currently using the following deadzones: steering inside - 24, steering outside - 95 (can post accel, deccel etc as well if required).
I have done a few runs on single player to repeat the issue this morning so I could capture a replay of the issue happening and watch the telemetry on it. It is exactly like I say it felt, it looks like some one has disconnected the steering as the cars wheels don’t turn at all, and the telemetry shows no steering movement when I was full lock or nearly full lock on the stick. It seems to happen when there is some kind of throttle application whilst trying to turn in but other times you can turn in with some throttle applied so this isn’t the exclusive reason for it.
I only had space for one replay on my game, but I have saved and shared a replay of it happening at the first turn on Lime Rock Park on the first lap as well. Was on part throttle already part turned into the corner when it happens, once I realised it was happening I tried to power through it to get the back end out and it just seemed to worsen the effect. If you watch the tyres or the telemetry you can see they are pointed dead straight with no movement even though I was almost using some stick to turn in (same as I did on the following two laps although I did carry a bit too much speed on the second lap, the third lap was a top 100 time). Again when I realised it was happening I went full lock at the same time as pinning the throttle to try and get the rear out to avoid the tyre wall to no avail. It actually looks like it suddenly puts a lock stop on the steering at the neutral position instead of where full lock should be as you can see it fighting to turn on the telemetry steering but it can’t for some reason.
I’ve also recorded a few different angles of another incident, as well as that one, on my xbox one upload if you can get access to that easily.
If I can post anything else to help work out the cause please let me know. It has stopped me playing online as I don’t want to cause any unnecessary collisions because of it, as when it happens you don’t really have time to save it and general go careering off the track in whatever direction you are pointed (hitting anyone in front of you along the way which is never cool regardless of whose fault it is).
I’m sure I don’t have to point this out, but just in case my gamertag is spelt Hot VVheels (which is spelt with two "V"s and not a “W”).
Thanks for listening, have a great day,
HW =)
PS - hopefully anyone else experiencing the same issue can post up here as well as I could not find anything about this issue when searching the forum either.
