Spring and Dampers Clarification

Hi fellas,

today i played around with some tunes and noticed something about Spring and Dampers tunes.
So you can choose between Stock, Sport, Race, Drift, Rally Spring and Dampers, whatever you wanna do with the car.

simply explained, without to much details…
Rally is more soft and has more grip, Race is more stiff and is for handling(?), Drift is also stiff for drifting…

But, for some cars, for instance the Pagani Zonda R you can only choose between Stock and Drift, shouldn’t there also be a Race Option?
The Donkervoot only has Rally Spring and Dampers and so on…so,in doubt what would you choose?
It’s a head-scratcher for me.

Sorry if the question has already been asked, and sry my englisch isn’t that good…

Thanks in advance!

Some cars stock already have race springs and dampers installed.

To check go to tuning and see if you can tune them.

If an upgrade is not available, that usually means the car comes with that upgrade stock. So in the case of the Zonda R, it already has fully adjustable race springs stock. Some cars have sport springs stock and the menu will only display race, rally, and drift. It’s the same concept, if you leave it stock you will have sport springs. Downgrading is not an option.

Race springs are the stiffest which allows them to keep the car the lowest without bottoming out. This is good for asphalt as it is relatively smooth and doesn’t require as soft a spring to maintain a tire contact patch, and having a lower center of gravity makes the car handle much better along with the aerodynamic benefits. Dirt racing requires much softer springs because it is far bumpier than asphalt. Therefore rally springs can be tuned much softer and have a higher ride height to avoid bottoming out. Drift suspension is similar to race suspension except it adds an adjustable steering angle and has a slightly different ride height. Unless you are tuning for drifting I would avoid it.

Thank you both, a lot. That really helped.

I’ve used rally suspension on a number of supercars that would be more prone to bottoming out, even with excessively stiff settings, using race suspension.
The CLK-GTR is one. It’s the only way to raise it even to stock ride height. Fun fact, the Z coordinate on it’s front wheels is questionable.
