Has this happened to anyone else? I’m on a Day One console on a new 4K Samsung TV. It only happens occasionally and looks like a green or blue shadow to everything. I’ve seen it on Blizzard Mountain and the main game.
Just experienced it again, a red shadow of the reds shifted a fair way from where they should be (seen easilly with a red and white barrier). Could it be the TV? I’ve got it on Game Mode with all the “active” technologies turned off.
A picture would be worth a thousand words in a case like this. I’ve no idea what you’re talking about.
I know. I’m struggling to describe it very clearly. Unfortunately it only ever happens for 1 or 2 seconds at a time when flat out in a race. I might try “Xbox Record That” next time it happens.
It sounds like the GPU in your console could be on it’s way out. Have you tried hard resetting your console to fix it?
I’ll give that a go. Didn’t know GPU’s failing was a thing. Is it common?
I wouldn’t say common, but it does happen. I had one go out on my 360 back in the day. I had just started playing mirrors edge, so it took me a minute to realize it wasn’t supposed to look like that. Lol.
Interesting. I’ll need to try another game to see if it’s not just FH3. I got a new TV a couple of weeks ago so worried it was that.
A better description of what happens would be that it’s like the RGB gets miss aligned for a couple of seconds.
Make sure you have a decent HDMI cable. i.e. one in good condition with the required spec. Such as HDMI 1.4b or 2.0. But don’t go and let some idiot store staff try and sell you a $50 HDMI cable. It’s not worth it.
Thanks Mitchy and Zoy, I’ll give that a check. I use the cable that came with the console, but I did change my setup from [Xbox to TV then ARC to receiver], to [Xbox to receiver to TV] recently.
Not sure I agree 100% with this … maybe it’s more a matter of perceived value to the end-user. I have fixed picture problems due to electrical interference on an HDTV before by switching from a run-of-the-mill HDMI cable to a more expensive, higher quality HDMI cable.
I agree with Mitchy - the cable, or a loose connection, was my first thought. Make sure your cable is connected tight. If it still happens, try swapping it with another HDMI cable and see if that makes a difference.
There’s higher quality and there’s being oversold to make stupidly high profit.
There are numerous youtube videos showing there is no difference between regular and monster max ultra hyper mega cables. Only 1 cost $5 and one costs $300.
Then there’s my own background and technical knowledge. There is NOTHING they can put in a HDMI cable that makes it worth $50. Unless it’s solid gold and that would be pointless. In fact those cables with gold plated plugs can degrade your connection if it’s plugged into regular nickel plated sockets that almost all TV’s have. The two metals react with each other chemically.
As for electrical intereference, that has no bearing on a cable whether it’s cheap or expensive. What you need then is ferrite beads on your cables and make sure they are internally shielded (most are, it’s part of the HDMI spec). Neither of those things adds $50 to a cable.
Don’t even start me on R&D costs. There were none. The HDMI spec is clearly laid out and these companies have been making cables and ripping people off with them for decades.
It’s the Samsung TV. I’ve got one (55KS7000) and I’ve had it once playing FIFA. Also read other people experiencing it with the same TV but with PS4.
What is your backlight set to? Is it below 10? I’ve also read that having it above 10 somehow fixes it…don’t ask me how.
I experienced it in the first week of owning the TV but it’s never happened again and I’ve had the TV for nearly 2 months now.
I thought this was possible. I’ve seen the effect on other games, apps, and live TV (still on the Xbox) since.
Had a couple of software updates to the TV since I got it, hasn’t made any difference.
My backlight it maxed out at 20 with game mode on and all the active picture options turned off.
Are you in the US or Europe? Which firmware are you on?
I’ve read of more people experiencing this issue since 1155 was released in the US. In Europe the latest firmware is 1154.
Sorry for the late reply, busy time of year.
I’m in the UK on firmware 1154.
It’s a UE60KU6020. Bloody annoying but if it is the TV, haven’t noticed it while playing my NES Classic Mini!
