SPA Eau Rouge cutting debate

Why are you still arguing this? It’s clean until the game says it isn’t. Only morons are going to sit on their high horse and run the “clean” line so they can tell their family about it at Sunday dinner. Move on!

Real world tracks…only a child is going to justify coloring outside of the lines.

this is exactly what I meant

If you run the boards, you will take the fastest line or you wont compete.

If you are in a hopper, and dont run this line, you will lose the race. Everyone plays by the default rule set, not some moral ruleset. Just because you dont do it, doesnt mean the other players have to. It is legal. One’s self governing doesnt apply to others.

If you want to run the proper line, then you need to have a room filled with people on the same page.

Outside of the above, there is nothing else you can do about it.

So cutting on Yaz is that wrong ? ( pretty sure most would say Yes it’s wrong…)
Wall riding around Bernese alps is that wrong? ( pretty sure most would say Yes it’s wrong…)
Cutting on Sebring? ( pretty sure most would say Yes it’s wrong…)

So Eau Rouge is any different? I guess I don’t follow at all.

So by the same logic we should all use the exploit and get in R class cars for a B class event monthly event? It’s allowed, right, proof is on the LBs . I’ve cut Eau Rouge - got called on it - considered the arguments above for " it allowed" and you know what, I adjusted to trying to do the turn correctly (which at speed in a S class car can be difficult - but I made the decision not to do it and when I did cut by mistake and a passing opportunity came up I backed off to not gain advantage, by cutting accidentally. (140-150mph through a left right left, it’s easy to be off a bit the way the balance of the car shifts).

As Far as the " it’s allowed in real life - The 2013 WEC event at SPA - Bruni - Bell and 2 other cars were all warned by Race officials about " Not respecting track limits" and they were no where near as far off the track as the picture in this thread. If they continued to do it they would have had to serve a stop and go.

Win at all cost - get the highest possible LB score. it’s allowed…

Sorry. Not sure I agree with it at all. I think the point of the thread wasn’t to call out “Cheaters” but to demonstrated to T10 how off the “dirty line” is and the hypocrisy of YAZ. Sebring. LeMans ( got to have the most strict “clean line” of all the tracks)… and this is a BLATANT almost a car width off the track and it’s OK. (Clean) How can any of us that race call that clean? We can make justifications to ourselves well others are doing it, because T10 allows it, - which I might add they allow wall riding as well - wrong class cars in specified class events - …

I can be almost certain that T10 does not mean to allow it. (Especially if you look at what’s dirty on LeMans… )

If you do it and the justifications work for you - more power to you. If you choose to respect the track limits - more power to you. I assume the fix is complicated - and don’t imagine that it will happen and the debate will rage on - just like pushing cat/mouse style oval cars - exploits that allow cars that should be disqualified from events - holding up traffic to do track day events like hotlapping - wall riding etc…

But there really can’t be a serious racer that thinks the picture of the car totally off the track is “rightly clean” - rather just like above “it’s allowed”, so I’m going to do it too.

I always try to race within the legal rules as I understand it. That means at most 2 wheels off the track. I do make mistakes and that includes Eau Rouge but definitely try not to cut any corners. Most of the time I can still manage a top 100 and that is ok in my books. Yes, it is frustrating to see the top drivers cutting corners everywhere just to get into the top spot but I’ll never be in #1 so I try to hot lap the way I would race. I hope they fix it and be consistent but that’s probably too much to ask. Spa and Yas are very bad but FM5 is more lenient even on many of the tracks that exists in FM4.

I think it is unrealistic to expect everybody to ignore these exploits that T10 left in the game. More importantly ignore the few tenths that you gain and race the way you want and with friends that do the same.

It’s nice to be further up the lb but as many said, it’s just a game so play it the way you want.

I would prefer not to cut Eau Rouge. It’s absolutely not the correct racing line.

However, as long as people do it online with no penalty, if you want to compete for a win, you’d better do it too.

I also detest those who cut through the last chicane at Spa, as well as the ones at Yas Marina and Sebring.

Cheaters will be cheaters. I wouldn’t mind a little sticky grass or some speed bumps here and there that would throw those who abuse the cut throughs off their line. Until that comes, I race clean as much as I can, but if it’s the last lap and I know a corner cutter is going to zoom by me if I don’t cut it too, then I’m cutting it.

The issue to me is this – even if you philosophically disagree with cutting Eau Rouge, you cannot enforce your belief, unless you are running a private lobby. You cannot truthfully call somebody a “cheater” because, by the rules of the game, they aren’t cheating.

There is no recourse other than ensuring you race with like-minded people.

These aren’t my “beliefs.” If this was madden and the wide receiver was allowed to go out of bounds, come back in, and catch the ball I’m pretty sure a lot of people would be up in arms about it even though the game was allowing it.

This is a racing game aka motorsports, SPA is a real track, but people think it’s fine to drive off the course because the game allows it.

No one is disagreeing with what you are saying. We get it, We agree.

But in the context of the game, it says it is legal. Unless you are racing with likeminded people in agreement, you can’t call them cheaters for playing within the defined ruleset. Unless T10 makes it illegal ground, there is nothing you can do about it.

For t10 to fix it, they will also have to wipe the board of all times that ran that line.

Look, I want T10 to fix this along with Yas and some other things. I think making the road slick outside the proper line like in Hockenheim on FM4 would be a good solution. That being said I cannot get anyone to run the line correctly. When I race I do my best to clear the turn in the intended line. If it means losing a race however I will go and do it the cheating way. It’s a shame and I hate to do it.
