How Many of Ya'll Cut T1 @ Mid-Ohio? Come Clean

After just losing a race by watching P2 cut the pit lane 11 laps in a row, passing me in T1 where I couldn’t contest or defend… It really makes you angry. Imma sound like an angry old crank, but there’s no accountability anymore. I know I wouldn’t feel much satisfaction from winning that way, but maybe that’s just not how people are anymore. I don’t know. I can forgive a lot with this game, but fine tuning the penalty system while leaving in blatant cuts like that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me.

Anyway, yeah. How many of ya’ll are cutting it?

Winnings winning. If you aint doing everything possible or taking advantage of loopholes you aint truly racing.

Every driver or racing team ever has done something like that and unless they change it so they get punished might aswell use it.

unfortunately, it’s currently a must cut exploit.

these track limits will be quickly and easily “hot fixed” per chris esaki’s stream years ago regarding the advantages of Live Service games.

i’m just unsure what T10 means by quickly.

I genuinely could not disagree more with this sentiment. The rules exist for a reason. Just because the game isn’t punishing you, doesn’t mean its right.

But I realize not everyone shares that opinion. My views are my own. But you have to admit, there is a large difference in a team exploiting a rules loophole, and blatantly cutting a well-defined racing circuit.

Eh, I commonly dont cut it unless I necessarily have to to keep pace with forward traffic. I am commonly a top 3 driver without using meta cars, but when track advantages give them a slight edge, I will follow suit. Realistically, racing is about stretching the rules and gaining as much of an advantage as possible over others.

Only online.

I do 2 laps of qualifying without the cut and if I’m outside top 5 or so I’ll try one lap with the cut.

I cut the corner on Lap 1 to avoid the storm and then I drive it honestly for the remaining laps. Usually.

I wish they’d fix it but as it stands it’s an equal advantage offered to everyone.

So I guess I have to ask, if all of ya’ll are citing “anything to win” as a reason to do it, does that also include wrecking your opponent or getting them penalties in the ways we’ve seen? I’d argue that falls under the same purview. Where is the line you won’t cross?

This isn’t to judge. I’m just trying to get my head around the justifications. I’m going to keep doing me, regardless.

If theres no penalty for “cutting” the corner then it aint against the rules. If they make it a penalty then it is against the rules, pretty simple

There’s no penalty for running your opponent wide into the grass/wall either. It’s just bad sportsmanship.

if you make contact there is… if you dont make contact then it means there was enough time for someone to back out which is all part of racing…

Fair enough. I disagree, but that’s ok. Thanks for contributing to the thread, homie. :sunglasses:

It’s not an “anything to win” scenario. Every racing driver on the face of the earth will drive the fastest lap to the limits of what the marshals are willing to enforce.

Irl on the same track different series will have different track cut limits and limits on how far a car can be over the white line on different turns.

The marshals in fm23 are just drunk idiots, gotta adapt accordingly.

The game says it’s legal, and anyone can do it.

I’m not going to use scrub mentality to limit my chances of success.

It should definitely be addressed by Turn 10 though. The game’s UI and penalty system should say that line is illegal, but it doesn’t.

When definable rules have exceptions, it creates potential for people to disagree on what is considered acceptable play.

Yeah, I drive it properly in single player and in qualifying but follow whatever my direct competitor is doing in races. I don’t blame people for cutting it though - ultimately it’s for T10 to fix it, otherwise currently it’s the racing line.

IIRC I checked track limits at one point and it showed as off-track; I consider it illegal-but-not-enforced. I cut it if I’m chasing someone who’s cutting it.

First ever race/practice online I respected it. Shortly after when I realized you gain 0.5s in ONE CORNER I said screw it. Now I purely avoid this track, along with Maple Valley and EagleRock. Shame because Mid Ohio is great.

…It’s April and that’s still a thing. Huh.

I like to play racing games, especially sims (or simcades if we’re going that route) because i know that I’ll never get the opportunity in real life to race these cars at these tracks. To that end, i like to try to pretend that I actually am racing in these situations, to try and give myself as realistic an experience as possible.

T1 at Mid Ohio is such an obvious oversight and blatant misrepresentation of reality that it’s not something i would consider doing in competition. By doing so, am i willingly putting myself at a disadvantage against those who do abuse the corner? Yes. But for me, winning is not the only goal. Winning by doing something that clearly would never be allowed by real stewards in a real race, just feels wrong. If that makes me a scrub, then so be it.

I never. Never have. Rivals, races. I still didn’t cut it when a guy took #1 from me by cutting it.
