Something needs to be done with the AI

i never thought it possible, yet here we are. the AI rams more than the players in this week’s trial. i got rammed out of the checkpoint THREE TIMES in this week’s trial. this is absolutely unacceptable! when the AI not only cheats with physics defying performace indexes and then rams the actual players out the racing becomes pointless. PGG/T10 devs: DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS AT ONCE!

These aren’t drivatars anymore, they’re drunkatars. And homicidal ones too. :upside_down_face:

I’m starting to wonder if good AI is a little bit beyond our technology today. AI in general, and especially racing game AI, has always been a bit terrible.

I remember back when I played Halo for the first time. I was in awe of the fact that I had friendly AI. I loved the feeling of being a small but important part of a larger fight. That is until I turned the difficulty up, and the friendly AI turned useless. I’ve always waited for that experience to be iterated and improved upon, but it just hasn’t. Halo: Combat Evolved came out in 2001.

The AI in Forza Horizon is an issue, and they really need to stop making it more difficult by just turning the cheats up. At the very least, be open and honest about the cheating and give AI a PI advantage at higher difficulties. However, I struggle to think of a racing game with actual good AI. Out of the games I’ve played, I can only think of Project Cars 2, and that AI really lacks a human element.

I’m starting to wonder if this is less a PGG problem and more an industry problem. Either way, don’t really see any other path forward for us consumers than to complain to PGG. No real way to communicate with the industry at large. I can’t know for sure, but I do feel like it’s an issue that the industry has continued to shove aside and ignore.

Drivatars tried to draw my blood and are completely inconsiderate… Sounds very humanlike and close to realism. I don’t like the drivatars cheating though.

I’ve absolutely hated the ‘drivatars’ ever since they were first introduced. Knew it was a bad idea then and can’t say anything has improved my feelings about them since. In fact, it’s only gotten worse.

However… After the most recent video from Test Drive: Solar Crown I start to question if there will be anything at all for non-competitive/solo/PvE players to do in that game. At least the Forza franchise has AI opponents at all. Yes they’re terrible but not having any would be much worse.

They still need a serious overhaul though. But don’t ever get rid of AI opponents.

Winter wonderland track was a disaster in the trial, they just crammed it in without testing, should not have been 12 drivers at A800

The Stadium Circuit and Winter Wonderland were both messes. In the former, there was a pile-up through the speed zone on the first lap which, I think, was as much incompetent humans as drivatars, which I used to my advantage, sneaking past much of the field. It was the humans who then turned out to be the bigger maniacs.

Same in Winter Wonderland, but I think the mess might’ve been a poor connection because I won the race, most of the other players had DNF’ed by then, and the only remaining player joined them while the game was making up its mind.

The drivatars were a pesky, naggy nuisances in What’s the Miata? but in other seasonals they seemed no worse than usual. In Sierra Nueva they all turned up in Velociraptors and I trounced them in my 2019 Ford Ranger Raptor.

But next week they could behave absolutely atrociously.
