Some UI decisions are just baffling

Like who thought it would be a good idea to not show driver level and bank account right away anymore? From what I can tell there is only one place where you actually see your level, under the Rewards tab of Progression in the menu. It doesn’t show up during normal play or in multiplayer - yet there are achievements for reaching a certain driver level.

Same goes for my CR. In order to know if I can buy something I have to go to either mod crates or the car purchase screen. No quick glance at my current situation.

To test tuning I have to go to Free Play, select a car, select a track (in this order, since otherwise as in all the Forzas before the track STILL gets replaced randomly), wait for the track to load, test drive. Why even have a Tuning option in the main menu under Cars if it is pointless there?

After a race you maybe want to see how many uses you have left on a mod. But you can’t, the credits pop up, then it does something with your mod cards all within two frames.

The game rewards you for using unique mods but still does not show which ones you have used in the past. They at least show which ones you use “frequently”, whatever that means.

The same applies to playing track variants, conditions, cameras. How is it possible that in 2017 a game forces me to use pen and paper to track my progress?

And don’t get me started on the car screens. The car collection screen is a hot mess. Took me five minutes to find the Renault F1. There’s so much wrong with this screen I as a UI expert don’t even know where to start. The standard car garage screen is not much better. In Horizon 3 LB and RB at least only moved one manufacturer to the left/right. In Forza 7 it’s the same mess as in 6: you have to memorize where you end up when pressing RB when on any given manufacturer. Good luck with that. Additionally, there are no more favorites. So how do I have easy access to my Forza Edition cars, you may ask? Surely I can at least filter the list so it only shows those? Nope. If you want easy access to your FE cars here’s how you do it: Memorize each one, its manufacturer, its position in the list. Then use your LB/RB memory skills and your FE memory skills to access them within a couple of seconds. There is no other way. What. The. Heck?

Also why aren’t all customization/player options in the same place? Want to change your badge? Go all the way to the right. Want to change your driver gear? Go all the way to the left. Want to see your stats? All the way to the right. It is so cumbersome.

And finally: You have 700+ cars in the game, 300+ driver suits and dozens of unique mods, yet after buying two 70.000 CR crates I get the same car in each of them? Seriously? And then I buy a 300k crate and get a 200k “legendary” car in it plus some worthless mods I already have five of? And why can’t I still sell cars that are given to me? I own them. Doesn’t matter if I got them for free or with a huge discount, let me sell them according to their value, not “remove”.

As fun as the game is, the inability to improve where the series fails since years is so frustrating. At least multiplayer now lets me mute all players quickly. Baby steps.

It takes a while to notice that the Car Collector screen is grouped by Division, but of course if you’re not familiar with divisions that won’t help you find the car you’re looking for.

Buy Car is predicated on having the credits to buy a car - yet there’s no way to sort by price.

Weight Distribution % in the upgrades/homologation screen, sure because parts affect it, but, no display for engine displacement size or aspiration which I think real racing series do use for spec.

There’s a similar reaction in the human mind to design here that is like suspension of disbelief in movies and books - the viewer will go along with your paranormal space odyssey until the internal logic is broken and then you’ve lost the viewer. Confusing UI design can break that in terms of games too, throwing a wet blanket over everything else that is good about the game.

One thing really annoying me so far, seems to be a current gen thing also, tiny text.
The distance meter is near impossible to read now, tyre condition is almost an after thought tucked down the bottom right plus numerous others suffering from shrinkage.
TV size is 42in and I’m sitting about 3.5 to 4 metres away, but it makes me feel like I should be closer.

And that is the sad thing. UI design is not easy, but it should be easy to come up with something that is much better than what we have. It really feels like an afterthought, it should be the focus. You are wasting dev resources on features that people can’t even find.

Another thing: It now takes four button presses after a race to get to the one thing that you are interested in, your winnings. In Free Play it is even worse, you don’t get to your winnings from the current race until you select “Next race”. Makes no sense. Also I think the game never tells you that with a rented car you don’t earn anything (CR or XP) - instead of earning less than with a bought car.

And you didn’t even mention leaderboards in your rant. Too much stuff to remember that’s oddly designed.

Sad thing is is that you’re right. There’s really no excuse here.

What leaderboards Swerve? There aren’t any you can view before a race LOL. Unbelievable!!

Well, thankfully we have at least a non-functional Forzathon button in that menu. Feels like a Forzathon button is in every single menu in the game TBH.

race UI is awful too

all they had to do was tweak forza 6’s UI in certain places, instead they demolish everything and start all over to pathetic results. what a fail

Interesting thoughts.

I can’t be alone in finding the UI so confusing that I managed to buy two of the same car.

What happened if that I went to Car Collection instead of Select Car to pick the same car again for a race. This shouldn’t happen to someone who has played every Forza game in the series.

What I have found to be really annoying is we are missing the very well used Test Drive Feature without having to go into a Free Play Race to drive the car.

I think I used to spend the most amount of time in the previous games to tune cars through that menu, kind of sucks that we have to go through so many menu screens now to just simply drive the car.

Another big one: There is no way to see your designs or tunes. You have to select a car and can then see all your tunes and designs for that specific car when you go to their respective menus, but only then. There is no overview/storefront.

A lot of what you said… YEP
I’m really enjoying the game for the most part but all they gutted out and all the stuff not in is still… well concerning would be a nicer word…
The UI is a mess, i hate it sadly, I loved it when I saw it but not going through it. It absolutely blows my mind they did not take the storefront [at least from FH3] Following anyone or doing anything is like a puzzle. It’s like they just refuse to take things from Horizon but Horizon takes and expands things from motorsport all the time! It doesn’t have to be this hard, but it is, and continues to be.

Why are split times always green, whether you are up or down on your previous lap? I find this an amazing oversight in a racing game.

Also someone already commented on this but the text used for the distance meters is ridiculously small, I feel like I need a separate pair of reading glasses the race this game.

The UI in Forza 6 was ok, all they needed to do was build on that.
