After a few laps around any track in rivals my car starts smoking. I just started using the manual shifting and was wondering if I’m shifting too late, I usually let it go past redline to get extra speed. It doesn’t affect performance at all, jw if this is me or what. I really only see it when I’m using the R35 GTR.
Try using more brake and less clutch when you brake. I’ve also seen a lot of racers to this when they use the bumpers as clutch. The timing is difficult when downshifting. There is a whole thread on this somewhere, but I recomend using “A” as clutch, “X” to shift up, and “B” to shift down.
I’m only using the manual shift without clutch, should I just go full manual? I saw that thread but forgot how to get to the controller configuration. Thanks for the tip.
Do you have simulation damage on? You might be wrecking the gear box
Yes sim damage is on, but I don’t hear see feel any lag or drop in shift speed or performance. I’ll do four or five laps while it’s smoking and only notice it after I end the race
Well it could be a few things but the best and quickest way to check would be to start up a rival and push down on the d-pad. Then push to the right until you get to the damage screen. Now shift like you normally would and keep an eye on the damage percent. It does sound like you are hurting the gearbox and after awhile it will affect the way the car drives.
Are you using manual/clutch and not actually using the clutch?
If you are not using clutch go into freeplay and click game options. In there you can turn on your manual with clutch and then in your profile you can switch your LB clutch to you A button if you would like to
I’ve been meaning to say that I have checked the telemetry and the engine said 14%. So something is going on, and unless I accidentally put it on manual/clutch, I’ve only been using manual without clutch which is why I don’t get why the gearbox would be going. I mean I was letting it go past redline to the point just before it starts jumping just to try to decrease lap times. I’ve used other cars and never experienced this, I’ll try changing my shifting habits to see if that helps.
It does sound like you are running the car off the rev limiter to much then. If you are using manual with clutch and not using the clutch then that is prolly your answer. If it is manual and you drive it manual i would say that it is just hitting the limiter to much and you might want to think about installing a clutch in the actual build to help keep it from banging off the limiter to much.
My Nissan Silva Has Done The Same Thing As Well But I’m Using Cluth/Manual ’ I Will Check Out The Gearbox During The Race Though , I Did Not Think About Doing That Before
If you’re oblivious to why it’s happening then the most common reason I end up with engine damage is during braking, when I downshift too early and stress the engine out. Try braking down to speed then changing down to your exit gear nearer the apex part of your turn.
Clear reason.
You are downshifting slightly too early and forcing the engine to go over the the rev limiter when you do so.
Result is that you are over-revving the engine a tiny bit, if we say you get 14% damage over a course of a race / lapping session you might have done the same mistake 7 times and all of them have caused 2% damage, or you might have had one misshift, which has caused 14% of the damage.
Anyhow, there is the main reason which causes your smoking engine.
