Skill Rating

Came someone at T10 please explain how skill rating works in multiplayer. Just done a race with a 1.35 min lap. Winner did a 1.32 and last place a 1.40. No way is this matching people with the same skill level.
No matter what lobby I join there’s always someone 3 seconds a lap quick. The player base must be so low now that skill rating is irrelevant. They just fill online racing with anything to make up the numbers.
I’ve seen a massive change in multiplayer over the last 6 months. I use to win a few races. I’ve no chance now. Anyway it’s more fun racing in the pack but skill rating needs sorting.

I thinks it’s this. Every race I did in the Ginetta lobby this past week I had a full second or more per lap on the rest of the lobby.

I feel Safety rating seems to have a greater impact on sorting now. Whenever I slip down from S to A (still staying 4995+) due the odd bit of contact/off-roading, I notice a distinct difference in the quality of the racing as well as the general fullness of the lobbies. Often, the A races are both faster and more competitive than the S ones.

Note that I basically only play the spec-series MP lobbies, not the open class ones - I’m a driver not a tuner, and my driving style doesn’t tend to mesh well with alien/un-realistic tunes (even if they are faster).

Players should be matched by time attack performance to ensure fair competition.

Safety ratings shouldn’t affect matchmaking. Instead, clean racing should be rewarded with more chances to play.

Time attack time isn’t used for matching in any racing game in aware of, at least sims. And that is because it can be abused. Don’t set a time attack time, or a low time, and curb stomp other players.

The problem with Forza, it’s it is the only sim or sim lite racing game that does matching on the go like it has Fortnite or Call of Duty player counts, and the driver ratings themselves are broken. Every other race matching system matches for the whole event at the scheduled time, only opening the lobby once all matching is done.

Matchmaking is not working at all, even if there are players available, because matchmaking priority is to fill up lobby, and then eventually if there are 2 or more open lobby for specific event.

The problem is… If Forza fills up one lobby with random people, avg skill level in this lobby will somewhere in middle of group (even tho there are rly fast, and rly slow drivers here already), and since this lobby is full, another players are send to empty lobby.
Now u got full lobby with mixed players, and one lobby with specific skill level, if for eg someone gets off, from full lobby, and someone rly skilled want to join after this, he will not be send to full lobby if there’s lobby with 1 player that is also skilled. U will just have 23 players with mixed skill in one lobby, and 2 skilled players in another, (unless skill level in 2nd lobby is also mixed, then if will put players at random)

Other thing about matchmaking, is that getting 4999 in skill level is way to easy…

U can assume that every lobby is rated 4500-4999 thus every player is put in random lobby, because almost everyone have 4500+.

I don’t think that any matchmaking takes place. At least not in lowly populated lobbies.
In Multi-Class & the BMW series there are clearly complete newcomers matched with players at the rating cap.
Honestly, it doesn’t feel any different than in previous Motorsports.

Yeah. With the current system some players would theoretically be 6000+ skill.

Safety rating drops quickly enough after collisions/cuts but skill remains inaccurately high.

It’s like they tweaked one but not the other.

It doesn’t.

It’s an arbitrary number that means nothing.

There’s a better way to do that and Gran Turismo 7 does it this way:

Qualify solo, then use your qualifying time to assist with matchmaking.

Either way, if you want easy wins you sandbag your qualifying, so it’s not a perfect solution either.

I still believe we have too many active events for the number of players online.

Instead of having 10+ active series the matchmaking would be a lot better if there were only 2-3 active series a day.

The challenge with that is that due to the varying interests of the active players, cutting the majority of active series will result in complaints when their favourite series doesn’t show up (look at Open Class racing whenever that gets changed or threatened).

The thing that bothers me about open class is that multi-class open is never changing. Why doesn’t the range change per week?

I would love to see P>R>S>A

Not only this but the rotation also never changes.
Want Yas Marina full? Nope, never happens.
Want Nürburgring GP without rain? Never happens.

I think it’s just a copy of the Open Class S rotation.

Spa without rain :skull_and_crossbones:

The races in the playlists need more variety. There’s no playlist that includes every track.

The actual race is always in dry conditions. Only the pre-race condition is set to rain.

It must get boring for a highly skilled player winning by 2 seconds a lap in every race. I manage two second place finishes last night. First place though was on another planet about 2 seconds a lap quicker. When following him at the start he just left me like a rocket.
I’m not tuner I borrow tunes. Take that guy in first place last night. It’s obvious they change the gearing to suit the track. I can’t change mine as it’s not my tune. I don’t want to mess with tuning I’d sooner race. A lot of these quick times are helped by tuning. Even spec cars are tinkered with in tuning

I think it should be more like GT7 Rating system that’s far more balanced then this Rating system I feel like this feature wasn’t tested enough during development exactly why play testing with insiders should of been during the development of the game like pre alpha build or sooner I hope they will make another motorsport but building the game with the community in mind first through out development until release make it 3 or 4 years of development rather than a ridiculous amount of time because it seems the extra time didn’t make much of a difference to me it looks worse sounds worse & plays worse with a half baked tyre model that is inconsistent

Its honestly hard to say what they should do, we dont know any info as to how many players there are nevermind how their skill breaks down.

I think realistically that the two ends of the skill spectrum would be the smallest. Its hard to justify decisions being made to just accommodate the smallest groups of players.

But i think they should think about bringing back a new version of leagues. Maybe with some sort of requirements for entry and a more strict rule set to abide by to actually continue playing in it. They could implement gt’s matchmaking system to group people accordingly and just see where it goes.
