Sim steering with a wheel?

So I’m just wondering if there actually is someone out there that can hold smooth drifts on a wheel on sim steering on forza 6.

I’ve been trying to drift on a wheel for a couple of months now and I’m finally starting to get the hang of it, but only on normal steering and 540°. When I tried drifting on sim steering, I just over corrected all the time.

So if you are experienced with sim steering on a wheel, do you have any tips for someone that can just not get the hang of it at all?

Now I don’t drift a wheel, but I run Sim on a controller, mainly because of comfort. For what it’s worth, though, here’s what I’ve learned from transition from FM4 sim to FM6 sim:

  1. Tune your cars softer than you usually would, maybe even a lot softer.

  2. Sim reacts in a similar way to IRL driving, so counterbalance is a big thing. Try and ease into transitions, you won’t catch it in time if you wind the car up and snap it the other way. On an extended note, you may have to get used to feeling for the bite point before a transition, as it is usually that moment just before the car starts to rotate the other way that you need to start countersteering the opposite way.

  3. It may be easier to start at 270 rather than 540, just to start. It’ll help your reaction time.

  4. Practice, practice, and more practice!

Hope this helps you out a little with what direction to go in. As I said, my advice might be a little irrelevant because I run Sim on a 'roller, but props for learning sim, dude. You’ll be tons better for it.

Thanks for answering, will definitely try and soften my tunes and turn it down to 270.

You don’t want to run anything past 270 on a wheel with Sim steering. And ffb lower. Plus your tunes need to be softened up a little. If you would like to learn more or drift with someone else on Sim steering on a wheel add ES Okami.

Don’t listen to it. I run sim steering and 900 DOR for drifting and can hold drifts fine. Don’t get me wrong it took me months of practice but it’s fine once you get the hang of it. Catches me out every now and then but it’s most certainly possible. You just need to imagine what the front wheels are doing and use the throttle to compensate.

I know exactly what you mean when you say you over corrected. That’s what took me so long to figure out. If the car starts to pull out of the drift your immediate reaction is to turn the wheel to counteract but all that happens is the back wheels gain traction and the front wheels will be pointing if track, instead add power and feather the wheel round. I absolutely hated it and was angry for weeks that it didn’t “feel” right but now I have to admit, It’s actually pretty realistic and so rewarding. Best track for me is Silverstone short track, similar sort of track to Tsukuba Curcuit. Has a good combination of long fast corners, a tight corner and a nice slalom for transitions.
