September top selling games

Can you guys believe Forza not on the list? Every Xbox owner should have this game. Really surprising to me.
From GameSpot:
September 2015 Top 10 Games (New physical retail only; across all platforms including PC)

NBA 2K16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
Madden NFL 16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (PS4, XBO, PS3, 360)
FIFA 16 (PS4, XBO, 360, PS3)
Destiny: The Taken King (XBO, PS4, 360, PS3)
Super Mario Maker (NWU)
Disney Infinity 3.0 (360, NWU, XBO, PS4, PS3)
Mad Max (PS4, XBO)
NHL 16 (XBO, PS4, 360, PS3)
Minecraft (360, PS3, XBO, PS4)

I’m not surprised. Everything except Mario is a multi-plat. Mario is up there because Mario, lol.

Yeah, I believe it. Multiplayer is broken. If I’m lucky, I can connect 25% of the time. I’m definitely not recommending it to anyone.

Also, I think the racing genre has the smallest following.

Looking at the list, it doesn’t surprise me.

NBA, Madden, FIFA, and NHL attract the same sports lovers every year.

MGS V was very anticipated by many, many people.

Destiny has a ton of players; no surprise TTK got a lot of players back. It supposedly came with quite a bit of improvements to the base game, but I don’t have Destiny so I can’t say for sure.

Super Mario Maker might be one of the best games the Wii U had in a while. I never played it, but I haven’t seen much negativity about it, save for some bad courses people made.

Disney Infinity and Minecraft? Little kids and the parents that let them play.

And Mad Max was probably a huge boom because of the movie.

Forza, and racing games in general, are rather niche. You have to like racing to buy a racing game. I couldn’t care less about sports, EA couldn’t pay me to play two hours of FIFA or Madden. That said, there’s millions who keep track of all scores and all games.

Physical retail only might have something to do with it too. People like disks, sure, but the bundles were digital only. I bought digital. Everyone who got the Deluxe or Ultimate Edition bought digital. To get an accurate scope of how many people played FM6, look at Lime Rock (don’t know what ribbon though, Full?) C-Class Leaderboards.

Edit: Xbox exclusivity doesn’t help it’s case either. Not to say sales would skyrocket if it were for PS4 and PC too, but they would increase.

Actually, yes, yes I can believe Forza is not on the list.

As popular as it is around here, it’s not nearly as high selling as some of those other games. I’ve also seen what users are voting for for the backwards compatibility vote and some of the games from the above mentioned franchises have more votes to be on backwards compatibility than Forza 6 has total global sales.

Then there are all the threads I’m sure you’ve seen around here. Remember this is September best selling game for 2015 not October best selling game for 2011.

That list is New Physical Retail only.

It would exclude digital purchases and possibly console bundles too.

This game was pushed hard on digital.

Now I see, most of the games on the list released on Xbox One, PS4, PS3 and Xbox 360. I would have thought Forza would have beat Madmax though.

Mad Max was multiplatform and a movie tie in. Even if it was bad to mediocre it would easy outsell a racing game (arcade or sim). That’s just how the math works out with movie tie-ins, that’s why publisher do them… Usually EASY MONEY.

rain npd is now supposed to include digital sales also, but you are correct that pack in bundles are not included since its a free game and not a sell. forza is not what it once was. it chased the casual player rather than the niche hard core forza fan. forza need to get back to going after the niche fans, there may not be near as many of them but there are more niche players than will buy the game than casuals that will buy the game. dan looks at call of duty and wants sales like that. thats why mods. the casuals dont want forza, they want guns, sports, and platformer/rpg. they want mgs, madmax, halo, fallout 4 etc…so dans not giving them the game they want, and hes not giving the forza fans what they want either. thats why forza now sells less than half what it used to. turn ten needs a leader that will put out the best racing game again and go for the 5 million sales it can do, not try to be call of duty racing edition hoping to sell 15 million. those people want guns and combat, they want destruction. clean racing is the last thing they want.

about a week ago someone told me there are only about 700k lap times on the leader board. forza’s sales average about 60% of the number of players due to families shareing the game. that would mean a little under 500k have sold so far and that for sure includes digital. look at the track and class for the 1st race in forza on the leader board. multiple the number of players by .60 and it should get you a close estimate of sales. releasing the same year as fallout 4 and halo 5 tho i dont expect sales to be that good. all the kids are going to want what their friends are going to get for christmas, and thats not going to be forza. some parents will buy forza because it is non violent, but as soon as they hear the forza multiplayer chat…suddenly master cheif and vault dwellers dont seem so bad.

Rdo3, This is what i’ve been saying, going after the LARGE casual markets, will not get you as many buyers as going after the SMALL hardcore market. It might work through luck, but once people are wise your sales will plummet. But with racing games, they are already a small market, and then they go and try to appeal to people who weren’t interested anyway, and lose all their existing customers in the process.
I love Forza, but I played Forza 2, 3 and 4 right up to the next game, so two years a piece. Forza 5 i played for 6 months if that, and then little bits here and there. With Forza 6 i’m already at the bits here and there position. For me the game lost it’s longevity when it lost all the community features. Rivals just ain’t enough to keep it going for a year never mind 2. lol
Once Fallout 4 and Just cause 3 drop, i’ll be exploring strange new worlds and blowing stuff up. Forza 6 will then be the game I go to to blow off some steam for half an hour. It used to be the game I needed a break FROM to blow off some steam…

Not particularly surprised to be honest, especially as here in the UK, FIFA was out just a week after Forza.

Sim racing games are very niche and although Forza tries to appeal to a broader mass, my friends at Uni always say it’s too realistic for them when we play it.

FIFA however, they’ll happily sit and play for hours.

Edit: Forza did actually make it into the UK top 10 FIFA 16 Accounted for Nearly a Third of UK Game Sales in September

Mad Max on a 21:9 monitor is a glorious spectacle of automotive explosive death. Forza won’t run above 1920x1080 as that is a limit of the Xbox One currently. Racing games benefit massively from a wider view. So do third person open world games.
I actually like Mad Max, I just love roaming the wastes. lol
Forza as I said has some merits, but it’s lost to many of the features that bound this community together, all in the misled attempt to gain the popular vote as it were.
