I'm not doing this anymore...

I have bought every Forza game on release day, dating all the way back to right after my sophomore year of college ended in 2005. I remember seeing an ad for Forza Motorsport in the case for some Xbox game or another, and thinking it was really great that Microsoft had an answer coming to the only game I honestly thought gave Sony a leg-up on them in the console market. I looked up some more information about the game, and I was really impressed with the track list (even though a lot of them were fictional tracks) and even though the car list wasn’t all that impressive, at least the game had damage modeling.

Some of my best gaming memories come from the Forza series. I remember barely being able to cross the finish line in my CCX on that Brazil endurance race because rewind wasn’t a thing yet. I remember being so happy that Forza actually included some damned muscle cars, and they weren’t completely useless. It always felt like whichever type of car you liked, you were getting the same amount of attention as everyone else. I never felt slighted or taken advantage of.

I can’t even imagine how many hours I’ve logged into this series through the last 9 years. It has been my official favorite game series of all time since Forza 3. Over the years, each game has given us marked improvements over the last. Additions of things like rewind, the auction house, storefront, dlc car packs, refinements to the paint shop, etc… It has been a great ride.

But then we come to the subject of Forza 5. Let’s be honest, folks. It’s one hell of a lot of fun to play. It really is. The driving feels great. The sound is great. The game looks great. If you can get with a good group of people on XBL, you can have a ton of fun racing online. I bought an Xbox One strictly for Forza 5. I bought the car pass and VIP because those things were really worth it in Forza 4. I mean, I looked through the car packs for Forza 4, and I remember when each one of them came out and I was just blown away by at least 2-3 of the cars, and maybe even amused by a few others. Hell, we even got the Viper right away, and that thing was a damned exclusive for us. That was badass.

But that’s not what we’re getting here, is it? I didn’t really mind that the car pass was more expensive this time, because I had anticipated the same kind of quality I saw before. Now, naturally with this being a matter of opinion, I can’t plainly state that the car packs have been inferior. Sure, a lot of them have been recycled from Forza 4, which in and of itself isn’t really a problem. The problem is that no one seems to care what the community is asking for. I’ve seen month after month now of people asking about the C7 Corvette. I don’t even really care if it gets added, because I’m not a huge fan of it, but I have a really hard time understanding why it wasn’t there to begin with. The same goes for a lot of the other cars people are pining for. And of course we have the infamous interview where we were told that cars weren’t being held back for DLC. It should be plain to see from minute one that we were dealing with a falsehood there. There is no way in hell the La Ferrari was not a priority for this game’s car list. With all the talk about Nurburgring lap times over the last 18 months with the Ferrari, the P1, and the Porsche, you would imagine T10 would want to get the two out of three that they can actually get in there. Of course you could get the Ferrari, as dlc though.

And this brings me to my next point: The Ring. You know, I don’t wanna be the kind of guy who looks a gift horse in the mouth, but I don’t remember anyone complaining that Road America wasn’t in the game. Sure, it’s a great track and all, but it’s not the track people were asking for. I understand that a lot of work went into it, but it still remains that it isn’t the track that is really conspicuously missing.

I spent about 3 months making excuses for T10, by basically just regurgitating the excuses they were giving us. It takes a long time to build a car, the tracks are laser scanned, etc… But at this point, I just can’t do it anymore. I can’t look past the coincidence that the alleged time it takes to build a community request car is the length of time that the car pass lasts, so we’ll start seeing the cars people are asking for when we have to pay extra for them. I can’t look past the fact that the auction house and storefront are still not there. I can’t look past the fact that we’ve been choosing from the same selection of rims for, what, 3-4 games now? We got drag racing back here recently, but it’s still the same half-assed drag racing mode from before.

Let’s be honest with ourselves. Forza 5 improves the handling of the cars, the presentation, the paint booth, and the tracks. Everything else is a half-baked version of what it was before, or it’s missing entirely. So at the end of the day this is where I’m left. How would I feel if when I bought Madden 25, it only came with the AFC North? I would be pretty pissed off, considering every previous game in the series came with a hell of a lot more than that. But let’s say they started releasing team packs. Let’s say the first month you get the Giants, the Dolphins, the Jets, and the Rams. So everyone says “Guys, those teams all kind of suck. Can we have the good teams that everyone wants to use?” And EA says “Yeah, we’ll get those out to you.” Next month you get the Raiders, Texans, Jaguars, and Vikings. You see where this is going. Nobody would make excuses that things that seem an awful lot like they should be standard features are bizarrely missing just because it’s a next generation title.

I’m tired of all of this. After buying the car pass, I only downloaded the first two packs. I really enjoyed the Ferrari, and I honestly can’t even remember if I bought and drove anything from the second pack. I didn’t even download last month’s pack, the Honda pack, Road America, or the booster pack. I really doubt I’ll download this month’s pack either, because it’s just not interesting enough. Almost all of these are cars I have on Forza 4. Two weeks ago I went back to Forza 4, and it’s just amazing to me that we have regressed so much in terms of basic content.

I don’t want any more excuses. T10 doesn’t care about this community anymore, and if I’m going to deal with a studio that doesn’t care about their community, it might as well be one who actually releases games that follow a logical progression in the sequel instead of delivering a bunch of excuses as to why their latest and greatest feels like a glorified demo.

Back to Forza 4 until I pick up a PS3 and GT6. It’s been a fun ride, but this is my stop. Maybe I’ll see you again for Forza 6 (you can keep that Horizon garbage; I won’t make that mistake twice) because I already own this goddamn Xbox One.

Bravo. Golf claps.

Couldnt have said it better myself. Post of the day right here. Im sry you purchased the car pass, but now we know what kind of company t10 is. Its ashame i purchased my x1 solely for forza. That is starting to look like a huge mistake on my part.

I too got the XBO for Forza. Sure I have Ryse and AC4, but just ask my girlfriend which one I play the most. I really hope T10 starts listening to the comunity. no comunity = no game.

You have officially perfectly worded my EVERY thought.

I thank you.

I wouldn’t pick up GT6 if I were you. I got it because I was disappointed in FM5 but it has even bigger issues. They essentially shipped a half-complete game. There are features on the box that aren’t in the game. And PD is way less communicative. They hardly speak to anyone at all.

Stick with FM4.

Oh, thanks for the tip. What really stinks about this whole situation is there are actually a handful of cars (like the P1, La Ferrari, F1 cars, etc…) in Forza 5 that are just a dream to race with, but I don’t think that really outweighs the fact that Forza 4 is better in nearly every single way.

Oh, and I forgot to mention something in my original post: I can’t help but be really annoyed that the trailers that all featured “gameplay footage” are blatantly pre-rendered. The game looks great, but it doesn’t look even nearly as good as what we saw in the trailers. There is no excuse whatsoever for this. People would have been more than satisfied with actual gameplay footage, but instead T10 felt the need to show us a promise of something they could not deliver.

I don’t know what happened to this studio in between Forza 4 and 5, but it really makes me sad. I used to tout T10 as essentially the hero of the people in terms of a game studio, because even though they released a ton of DLC, it was at least great. It’s really remarkable to me that of the two big games released in Q4 2013 that were considered to be massively incomplete, the one released by EA (Battlefield 4) has actually somehow given more attention to community feedback than the one made by T10. When a subsidiary of Electronic Arts is being better to their community than you are, you are doing it wrong.

Forza 5 was a launch title for a new console. Forza 4 was released 6 years into the life of the 360.

If you have never worked in software development then you may not be aware of the special challenges that come with that. Does FM5 have problems? Yes, a lot of them. Did FM4 have problems? Absolutely. There were a ton of people who were ‘done’ with the Forza franchise after 4 was released. After every car pack release in FM4 there were a ton of people who were ‘done’ with the game because they didn’t get what they wanted. The whole ‘being done’ post in the forums is ridiculous, self-indulgent, whining. If FM6 is a truly fantastic game I expect to see a bunch of people crawling back, heads hung, tail between their legs for being ‘done’ with the franchise.

First of all that was a lot of typing when you could have basically just said “Waaaaahhhhhh I didn’t get what I want so I’m leaving”. Secondly, while I do agree with some of your post I would say that its darn near impossible to make everyone happy. This latest car pack does seem a bit weak to me, but maybe there are people who love it.

Forza 5 is best for Rivals and Rivals mode is great of F5 - I love the rivals mode more than anything! Every class on every track, tuning your car and racing ghosts - it’s awesome!

Shame you feel that way. I absolutely enjoy Forza 5. I have car pass & have downloaded everything. No way I’m cutting on my Xbox 360 to play Forza 4. Forza 5 is flat out terrific with Thrustmaster TX Wheel.

Oh, thanks for reminding me of another point I initially left out: I played Forza 4 with the Mad Catz MC2 wheel. That thing is pretty much garbage, but it’s in my price range. If Microsoft and T10 thing I’m paying $400 for a wheel that doesn’t say Fanatec on it, they’ve lost their minds. I’ve already invested almost $700 in this fiasco, and I’m not about to dish out another $400. Christ, the fact that this money could have been a chrome moly k member and control arms already makes me want to scream. I’m not about to spend the money that is going to be front coil overs on a cheap plastic wheel with an utterly ridiculous mark-up.

You can’t fault a man for his opinion!

Exactly. Everyone has their own opinion and mine is that, yes, there are problems throughout this game, but the important thing is T10 is working on making their product better. We’ll have to see what the future holds.

I have seen no evidence to support your statement of T10 making the product better. Do you have link?

+1

You really need a link?

You don’t consider the free Road America track, the free Road America car pack, the free Honda car pack, the December update, the free Lotus, the 1/2 price weekend, the lowering of car costs, etc… Turn10 improving the game?

Absolutely not

Fantastic post but one thing…You didnt download Road America? Really…The track is insanely good with F5 physics…I can see why you wouldnt download the poor selection of cars were getting but i cannot fathom why you would not download an amazing track?

This is likely the most objective (and best) post I´ve ever read about FM5 - I spent a lot of time on FM4, but FM5 won´t make me satisfied… There are too much compromises we have to accept!

The way I looked at this big next gen jump is with facts from previous games and how they have worked it also factoring in the new ground up rebuild .
I knew there would be less cars and tracks .
I knew by going off previous forzas the DLC selection would be like this .
I understood the ground up rebuild and it wouldnt be perfect like previous games .
I knew porches wouldn’t be in the game cause of the licensing .
I dont get why people commit to this game on hopes and dreams that if they beg enough they will get what they cause they deserve it .
Just because you spent all that cash and bought the car pass does no give you and right or power over a company .
They make decisions based on what physically can be done and in a cost effective way .
I have no sympathy for people crying like this cause they didn’t think properly or do the right research .
