Please someone explains how to do this the safest way. thx
DISCLAIMER:
There is no guaranteed way to trade/sell cars on Forza. Since trades/sales use the Auction House, that means they are open to everyone at all times and none of the below listed details will guarantee that everything goes as planned. That being said, the details below should greatly reduce the risk of being scammed and/or having deals sniped by other buyers. Understand that these things still can and do happen, but below you will find ways to help mitigate those risks in-game.
*The main things to keep in mind for trading/selling is that it 100% depends on trusting each stranger to hold up their end of the deal, and understanding that each person is accepting the possible risks during every trade/sale (i.e., being scammed and/or having cars sniped by other searching buyers.)
*These tips are for those on Xbox Consoles as there are specific button selections that are referenced, although those on PC can use these tips as well. PC users should adjust the button selections described accordingly.
- Reach an agreed upon trade/sale between buyer and seller
*TIP: Have the seller broadcast their screen on MIXER to make sure they have the car you want. Use MIXER to watch the sellers process of putting car on Auction if you can. I do this by watching MIXER on mobile while I am on Xbox. There is a slight delay to the stream, but it at least it adds a layer of security to trades/sales to help reduce the risk of scams. This isn’t always necessary, but it helps if you are worried about being scammed since trades/sales are ultimately done by trusting each person to hold up their end of the deal.
If Trading:
- Join Party Chat. (Can be done over message, but faster/safer over chat)
- Agree who will send car first. (Shouldn’t be done at the same time to avoid people sniping)
- First person prepares car for Auction House at the same time the second person prepares car Search in Auction House. (You may choose to use Advanced Search to enter the Gamertag of the person posting the car to make sure you are trading with the correct person instead of grabbing the first car that might be on auction)
- When car and search are prepped for Auction House, first person says, “GO” when they click confirm to put car on Auction House. Second person clicks Search when they hear the “GO” message.
- When the search is timed this way it ensures you are seeing the car on Auction after a second of it being posted.
DO NOT PRESS (A) TO SELECT THE CAR AFTER SEARCH TO OPEN THE AUCTION DETAILS - This takes too long to load and you will most likely lose the car if someone searches the car quickly after you do.
*6) To Purchase Quickly: After Search, when car shows up on Auction - The fastest way to purchase a car and to help prevent people sniping is to click Y, Down, A, and A immediately when you see the car on Auction. (*Y - opens the Quick Auction Menu. *Down - Moves the cursor from ‘Place Bid’, down to ‘Buy Out’. *A - selects to buyout the car at listed price. And quickly hit *A again - to confirm Buy Out.)
^ I recommend practicing this method with low value cars before trying this with high value agreements. ^
- Repeat steps 3 - 6 above to trade the second car and successfully finish the deal.
If Selling:
- Use a money-making car to sell expensive cars for more than they are allowed to be listed for. (This requires you to purchase a car at a relatively low price so it can be sold at a very high maximum sale price.)
- A good car as an example to use as a money-making car would be the Ford GT40 Barn Find. You can purchase them for ~900,000, but you are allowed to sell them for ~9,000,000. *You do not need to be a high level painter or tuner to sell them for this price. The GT40’s sell for 8-9 million for anyone.
- As a general rule: The person buying always purchases money-making cars first before getting the car they agreed upon for the deal.
- After money transfer is done with money-making cars, the car to be sold will be put up on Auction to be bought.
- Follow the instructions above for trading to complete car exchange.
*Understand that if you agree to buy a car for a set price that you will most likely pay a little more than that price. You will have bought the money-making cars for the agreed upon price and then you will pay again to buyout the car you want. - Do NOT take offense to this. Understand that the seller is getting ~15% less than what was agreed because of sales tax. On a 20 million credit sale, the seller is only actually getting 17 million.
Example:
You make a deal to purchase a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 PreOrder for 20 million credits. The person selling the ZL1 PO will put up three (3) GT40 Barn Finds to reach the 20 million credits; two (2) for the 8-9 million max sale price, and one (1) for the 2-4 million difference to equal a total of ~20 million.
They will put the GT40s up for 24hrs and higher than usual sale price so no one will buy these except you. You will need to use the Advanced Search to enter their Gamertag to find the specific cars they are selling to you.
After the money exchange has finished, they will then put the ZL1 PO up on Auction for you to grab. USE THE ABOVE METHOD DESCRIBED FOR TRADING. Always try to be in Party Chat when making a car exchange. It significantly reduces the risk of sniping instead of waiting on messages to be typed and read. Messages can be used if Party Chat is not an option.
- While the steps I listed above are not guaranteed to result in successful trades/sales 100% of the time, I at least hope that my efforts explaining these methods will save time and effort for everyone willing to trade/sell. Hopefully this will reduce the occurrences of buyers being scammed out of money and cars, as well as reduce the risk of having well executed deals breakdown by having cars sniped by players hunting for sales.
Remember the risk, and remember to trust.
Good luck to everyone!
Thanks for taking the effort to post this! I’ve been fortunate to have for the most part, great experiences selling / trading here. The only time it got weird was when someone didn’t understand the upfront financing thing and didn’t want to return my cars. Worked out in the end, but only after a far-too-long logic session of why it works that way.
The only add to this (if I may), is that the mobile chat app works just as well and if done right, is as effective in avoiding sniping as party chat. I’m usually trading late, have kids asleep, etc. and don’t want to be on headphones and a mic. I’ve moved a lot of cars here and have only been sniped a few times. Just want to point out the alternative to party chat (which you do point out) as an equally safe way to trade.
Again - great post.
Great point, Orbital.
Using a mobile chat app is completely fine and is not cause to worry. Sorry if I made it sound that way. There are definitely instances such as yours where using a mic over party chat just isn’t as feasible and makes more sense to message instead. My bias towards using a mic in party chat is my own personal preference and gives me a bit more confidence during trades, even if it’s only placebo.
I wanted to clarify that using a chat app is no reason for a deal to breakdown.
Thanks for pointing that out, Orbital!
Small note. If you don’t trust, ask for references. Don’t hasitate to contact people and ask, if seller / buyer is trusty.
Thank you, Tato.
Yes, asking for references can help put your mind at ease if you trust that the seller has completed successful deals in the past, and it might point to a more reliable seller - especially if they have a long list of gamertags to reference previous deals with. The longer the reference list, the better.
*But don’t let this give you a false sense of security. Scammers have been known to have their friends vouch for them on deals. Also, be cautious if the seller wants to involve a third (3rd) person into the deal as the third person could be a friend involved in the scam as well.
My personal opinion is that if I am willing to buy/trade from someone, none of their references will help me feel better about the safety of the deal since they could very well be scammers. If I am willing to buy/trade from someone, then I take on the risks that come with it. If I get scammed, so be it. Hopefully that doesn’t happen, but I can only control my end of the deal. Both people need to come through on their promises for it to work.
I suggest everyone listen to their gut and make educated decisions when it comes to making deals. Trust yourself and hope the deal is successful, but also be willing to accept the risks if a deal goes bad.
Forza Forum Moderators,
Can this thread be made [ Sticky ] to pin it at the top for people who are new to trading/selling?
I think the value of this thread merits the action on the sole basis of reducing risk and keeping the community safer on the Auction House.
Thank you
jacko01 thank for the very informative post.
i also think this post should be made sticky. cia0
And before you spend lot of money for wheelspin rare cars, read this.
I think, you will get all cars from wheelspin. My son’s account missing just cca 30 cars, and he is winning 1-2 duplicates, then 1 missing, 1-2 duplicates, 1 missing…
Is here anybody, who can confirm this? Or he is just lucky
With mixer, you dont need to drive hours …
I know this is an old one, but please someone help a (marketplace at least) noob.
So, let’s say I want to sell my 2019 GT3 RS for 18 MIL. I go and buy 2 Ford GTs = 2x900k = 1.8 MIL. So I sell my '19 GT3 RS for 18, meaning the buyer buys my 2 Ford GTs for 9 MIL.
So, I get 18 MIL - FH4 “Sales Tax” (10-15%?) - 1.8 MIL (I paid to buy the 2 Ford GTs at first) = ~ 18MIL - 2,5 MIL - 1,8 MIL so I finally get around 13-14 MIL.
Is that correct or am I missing something? Just wanted to clarify.
Again, sorry for the noob post and thanks in advance.
You are correct, plus you’ll get some money from the sale of Porsche (minus tax of course), so from a 18mln deal you’ll end up with 13-14mln in the bank.
I have experienced being scammed and buying and selling cars but 5/10 times you miss the car
when you’re selling a car always have the other person buy the money cars or the cars worth 10mill first, then after they buy the money cars then sell them the other car.
but when your buying ask the seller if they can go first if they say no that’s okay but there’s that chance that you’ll get scammed.
if the person sounds sketchy leave, but always try to have the seller put the car your buying first. some of the time they’ll go first and sometimes they’ll say no
if in the case they say yes DON’T scam them there letting you go first if you gain there trust they might sell you more cars for cheaper and will probs let you go first more of the time.
