Hey guys, since it seems the old forums took all of our posts and pictures with them, I figured that I’d reboot my old thread to keep any interested folks up to date on what I’m painting. So anyways, here’s the 1-shot overview of what I’ve done so far, and a few of the little things that I’m working on:
A Datsun 510 taxicab, used hard and left to rot before being adopted as a drift car. My first paint here on FM4 and one of the most popular on my storefront.
The first request that I tackled as well. A BMW by the Japanese B1BodykitClub. It’s not actually what the police drive in Japan, it’s a show car. Anyways, thought that it looked cool and the guy was happy with the work.
An Audi R8 from the Bathurst races, another replica, this time of an official livery. There’s some “bodykit” style work on here - extra vents and such, but I don’t have any good pictures to show the full extent of it in just one shot. The spider on the side will have to do. The official car doesn’t have the black plastic panel, so I had to take some liberties and work around that.
Another race replica, and some more kit work. This was a collaboration, those gorgeous rear fenders are not technically my work. I did the front end however, and the recessed lights, as well as all of the sponsors. This was ported over and touched up from FM3.
A fantasy paint for Bethany Hamilton, the pro surfer. Some might remember her from the movie ‘Soul Surfer’. She lost her arm in a shark attack, but has continued to surf. I did this paint partially for my little sister so she could have a car to drive when she played, but also because I enjoy surfing and wanted an excuse to load the car up on surfer logos. The hood is done up with all of her sponsors for the 2012 season, like a surfboard. Lots of awesome logos, but I wanted to show the detail on the side, and her signature.
Besides cars, another love of my life is vintage and cafe-racer style motorcycles. So here’s a “Cafe” romeo. Dirt track feel, with logos for the infamous Ace Cafe, as well as the Ton-Up Club, and nods to the 59 Club.
A quick and easy Lotus paint that I did for my Rivals car, with a carbon fiber body, a few colored body panels, subtle striping over the hood and skirts, and some sponsors. Hangar111 is an actual lotus performance shop.
I did this paint for a B-Series racing league that I was unfortunately unable to compete in. Finished the paint tough! Another quickie, just real easy stuff with my logo on it. FlyinMiata.com logos, as well as Skip Barber Racing School from out in California, where I took a few of their weekend classes back in the days when I had my Miata (RIP, my beloved)
Another request, another race replica. This time though, with a decent amount of bodywork. This car was a pain in the butt, trying to get the slashes to come together properly over the top and sides of the car, as well as doing all of the sponsor decals myself.
An Akira S2000. The Akira logo is on the hood, but the rest of the car features not only Kaneda’s awesome bike (it’s a Honda too, by the way), but is done up to look like a cross between his red bike with all the decals, and the “flowery” blood that they use in the anime. There’s a logo for his biker gang on the back of the trunk deck, as well.
Another request that I fielded. Not sure what the livery is for, but he wanted it, along with his gamer tag. I kept the GT off the pic, but anyways - here’s the logo. He was very pleased with this.
A very serious WIP that I’ve been tinkering with for entirely too long now. A car with visuals from the Takehiko Inoue ‘Vagabond’ manga. His art style is incredible, with very coarse brushes and everything is hand shaded. He’s had his panels put on display at art museums. This is a portrait of the main character, Miyamoto Musashi. I’m sure you’re familiar with the name.
The big brother to the other Lotus up there, and using lots of the same sponsor decals, plus some from the R35 project. It has a little bit of “bodywork” with a vent cut into the hood, and there are “go faster!” arrows ghosted into the paint. There’s a filter on this pic, but it’s a very shocking blue from the “Special Colors” section.
The ever-so-beautiful 427. I wanted something subtle and classic, so I kept things to a minimum on this car. Just the hood and cowl stripes (there’s also outlining around the hood scoop), some vintage type racing numbers, a few sponsors, some road-dirt, carbon fiber front flares and carbon fiber in the vents on the side.
Another WIP that I’ve sort of abandoned. It was meant to go onto a World Wildlife Fund themed car, but I couldn’t find anything it could fit onto the side of. Has since been dropped. Might try sticking it on a BRZ or something, eventually.
So that’s everything. In short, I paint for myself, and for the enjoyment. I’m available for requests, but always reserve my right to decline them, and will tell you outright if I don’t think it’s something that I can handle. I like to push myself, but I’d rather do it without the stress of knowing that I have to hand off the finished product to someone who’s sending my credits for the work.
Nearly all of these paints are in my storefront, my gamer tag is SlyBlu7
