Running Out of Fuel!

Seriously who at Turn 10 didn’t think it would be a good idea to flash up a low fuel warning on screen? I just did an endurance race and ran out of fuel on the LAST DAMN LAP. Furious! It flashes a warning on screen when your tyres are 70% worn so why no fuel warning?? Absolutely SHAMEFUL

tire condition is not constantly displayed on screen. the fuel is constantly displayed on screen. in the lower right see that bar under the gear number? that bar is your fuel gauge when it runs out you run out. they were showing you the fuel level, you just weren’t looking at it.

Hmm what? Nope I never noticed any bar. I’ll check that out next time I play. I still think they should flash up a low fuel warning on screen though. A tiny bar that’s not very noticeable isn’t good enough

I ran out in my first long race. That little white bar did not really stand out until after I had ran out of gas. It is odd that it moves from left to right and also odd that there is no outline around it. Makes it very hard to estimate how much fuel you have and if you happen to be using hood view in a car that happens to have a large hood and is white then makes it just a wee bit hard to see it at all.

Would be nice if it had a thin border around the white bar to help gauge the % of fuel remaining and better still if it changed color when it got below 25% or so maybe yellow at 25% and orange at 10% and red at 5%

a border would help maybe black to make it easier to see. and have the empty portion of the bar in grey not transparent. but the color codeing will cause confusion and as many problems as it solves. you can only get about 3 laps on the ring, by the time it hits 25% and changes color it could already be too late if it happens just after you pass the pits. people will be thinking it is telling them its safe to make another lap they cant make. short shifting, letting of the gas sooner and coasting into corners, driving at lower speeds etc…and affect gas milage sone on some tracks or with some driving styles you could cause people to over pit and lose too much time to win. if i were you rather than waiting for turn ten i would use hood colors other than white to be safe. get a nice dark hood so it really stands out. or maybe you could even make a decal like you wanted green 75% yellow 15% orange 5% and red 5% then line it up under the fuel bar. just remember green does not automatically mean you caan make another lap all the time.

if you have favorite cars for certian tracks and already tuned maybe you can adjust the % for a decal under the fuel bar so it will already be showing red in the last turn before the pits so it does tell you when to pit or run out. racing in hood view with good decals could make it the most usefull view ever for fuel warnings. and your decals would be tailored to your driving style. after putting on enough decals you’ll probably get a feel for where under the fuel bar is going to land and be able to do it on the 1st try without needing to move it.

That’s a good suggestion rdo3.

Color coding would be nice

50-100 white
15-50 yellow
0-15 red

Or having fuel in numbers and also showing how much mpg your wasting.

To be fair the bar is actually rather noticeable, people just never choose to look there.

Once you find it out you’ll never miss it. It’s easy to miss if you don’t know.

The fuel is a joke, I can barely do 9 laps of Daytona in my Rebellion, that’s 14 minutes of racing.

If you look at the bar, there is a very light grey background so you are able to gauge how much you have left but if you do that, I wouldn’t over estimate at all, once that bar is at the bottom you’ve had it.

I still just do not understand how you can go out in an endurance race and not consider how much fuel you have. Most of the race cars have very noticeable fuel meters, with some actually being on the steering wheel. Also, there is the fuel bar on the HUD which, if not visible, can be seen by simply changing the camera view for a second. In addition to what I mentioned above, you could pause it, go to Photo Mode, zoom in through the window, and locate the fuel meter that way. The last option is what I had to do in the endurance race at Catalunya with the Bentley GT car and no HUD.

Edit: Even during my Bathurst 100, I had no fuel problems. And that’s race when I did a lap with less than a gallon in the fuel tank. I had to be very easy on the throttle and held in the clutch down the whole mountain and I made it back to the pit with about .3 in the tank.

I normally run with damage off so fuel is not normally an issue. In the race where I ran out I was in free play using a dare that turns on sim damage. I set the race to 25 laps on Indy speedway and began.

I had not noticed that white bar changing during the race and then around lap 19 or so I ran out of fuel just after passing the pits so I had to coast around the track to the pits. By the time I got there I was barely moving and lost a few positions on the track. I ended up only placing 2nd due to the fuel issue.

I ran the race again and this time paid attention to the fuel and saw the gauge. I also noticed that it was hard to tell how much was there and that it seemed to be backwards from what any fuel gauge I have ever saw would be.

I have been going by the bar for my fuel level, but my question is does the fuel guage work on the dash of cars in cockpit mode. I’ve never checked to see if it monitors fuel, that would be great.
