Well so far no interest yet so prolly just a pipe dream. The only acknowledgement has been on THIS thread, nothing on the actual comp thread. If (big if) this actually gets going, as much as I understand wanting brakes at 200%, that’s sorta one of the tuning parameters that come with a tuning comp. I cant promise that every test driver is used to the 200% pressure, I use 115%. I also play on an old controller on console and I know a few of you guys are on wheel and PC. I appreciate the offer though man.
Like I said, maybe the good old days have gone, just left some empty spaces now. Horizon being console and PC has changed things for this. I will probably end up just building and tuning for something to do, since after tomorrow I’ll be jobless anyway.
Gave up with the Renault but I’ve moved up to 4th with the Civic, ahead of Barcode by 4 thousandths!
The Civic is hard to drive but I feel the top players here could use it to go faster than the current 1st place time, if you have the patience to wrestle a perfect lap out of it.
I’m happy to be a test driver as well if you get some tuning interest Zepp. Sorry to hear about your job. Hope all is ok.
Anyone got any other thoughts on 1980s cars that could work for Arrowhead? I thought the Peugeot FE might be an option but probably lacks the speed? Can’t see anything else that might be competitive as I don’t think the Trueno has the handling.
Well, I’m not a fan of LEGO expansion either. Haven’t even finished, there are still many races with label NEW on the map. But I have to say map is great and only thing that puts me away are bricks and this boosted jump ramps. I like very much this desert part. Without bricks I would probably like this map more than Fortune Island.
I still have 2 or 3 cars to try, but I think only Civic is capable. On racing tires it still have enough power to outrun Renault on straights, but my tune was to slippy in the back.
Bree, Rayne - can You make a tune for Civic on racing tires?
Also, good job Jezza on that last part of the track. Can’t match You in that part.
Zepp - what industry? Hopefuly it will get sorted out quickly.
I tried tunes by TDU1PlatinumMod and Rezoak, but couldn’t do a good time with either of them. I tried making my own build with race tyres and AWD, and it got me the closest, but it’s still surprisingly lacking in grip for such a light car with race tyres. The handling number it gave when I applied the tune was 1.8 for the Civic vs 2.2 for the Renault, which is a massive difference. With the Renault, there really weren’t many build options to try, e.g. it has race suspension as standard, so you don’t have to worry about whether the PI is worth it or not. The Civic has vastly more build options, so it would be really time consuming to investigate all the possible builds. I suspect it can be improved from what I had for AWD race tyres, which I did about 56.0 with, but it wouldn’t be a quick process. The first thing I’d try next would probably be upgraded suspension and maybe even chassis strengthening to try to improve the handling. The Renault is basically giving more like supercar S1 level handling in A class. Rayne might be able to do a good job with the Civic more quickly than I can, if he has time.
If I find time today or tomorrow I’ll see what I can build. IIrc the '84 as FWD and race tires was quite good at A800. Could be tricky on this track though.
Due to the Corona issue I don’t have much time to do other stuff currently. A downside from working in a lab I guess.
I hope You have better procedures and that everyone is careful.
Biggest lab examing corona in my country is now closed, beacuase one person is infected. So whole lab is now in quarantine.
I’m pretty confident I could do around 54.5 using Platinum Mod’s drag tyres tune - I did 55.0 on my second flying lap with a fairly significant error and stopped there. Possibly it doesn’t work as well with a wheel though.
It’s nigh on undriveable with a wheel, slides all over the place. My experience is I can often get used to driving tunes that are initially very hard to drive, but if it needs a lot of throttle control, I’m at a big disadvantage, as I don’t have pedals that vibrate like the controller triggers do.
I just tried the 205 FE, and it’s very good, I did 55.7, but I think it probably can’t be made to match the 5 Turbo FE. It out-handles the 5 in places, but has an inferior power to weight ratio, and you can’t really afford to upgrade the gearbox, so it’s stuck with wide ratios, and it just gets out-accelerated on any sustained straight. I played around with a small build variation, but I can’t see any way to make the significant improvement it would need to beat the 5.
I also tried a couple of the old Porsches (not eligible for this challenge, but I tried them, for interest) that I’d made dirt tyre tunes for, for the Trial a while back, as I remembered some of those giving pretty good speeds for the speed zone down Ambleside, similar to the Renault, but none of them were able to match the Renault for the Arrowhead Circuit. They were faster on the straights, with worse handling, as you’d expect, but the speed advantage on the straights was too small to make up for the cornering time loss.
I’m curious what could actually beat these cars on this type of track. Probably the Lotuses - which I seem to remember being very grippy in A class? I’d also imagine the Clio FE in the right hands would be right up there.
Improved to 54.588 with the Civic. My best non drag tyres time in the Renault remains 54.988.
Yay. I did it!
No idea how, thought it was dirty lap and was just trying to get good start for next lap.
My weakest point is that left hairpin at bottom. I’m always missing braking point.
Would be interesting to see if we could find a faster A class car if we threw open the criteria to all. Quite possibly not because these times aren’t that far off the S1 class times really.
I had a go with the Lotus 340 R, knowing that Johnson had made a video about an OP handling tune for it in A class. I tried his RWD tune, but couldn’t make it work at all. I made my own AWD tunes with drag, rally and race tyres, giving handling 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3. I couldn’t make the drag tyres tune work, but did 55.6 with the rally tyres, and 55.4 with the race tyres, so quite a long way off matching Jezza and Zip on 54.5.
I tried my 340R with which I got two WRs at Fortune Island.
It’s really tough to handle here due to the bumps which unsettle this extremely oversteery-build tune.
Got one decent run and matched Jezza and Ziperr at 54.5.
That was the problem I had with Johnson’s tune, the back end was very slidey, but you’re much better than me at dealing with that. It has given me more sympathy for the person who started a thread complaining about the lack of grip, in that a RWD car with <300bhp and race tyres really shouldn’t be having any grip problems when you consider that in real life a 300bhp FWD Civic Type R with standard soft road tyres is very grippy.
Given there’s not much to do currently, I’ll keep setting Rivals events. Are people happy to stick with Lego Valley? Haven’t tested it but was going to suggest Valley View Sprint S1 - and, mainly as I just really enjoyed driving Bree’s 2015 Corvette tune for the Modern Muscle championship, Modern Muscle for the category.
FWIW, when I made that and a few other tunes for the Trial that week, they were all fairly reasonable for the sprint track I tested them on, but they were several seconds slower than the McLaren F1, so it may be tough to compete in absolute terms with them.
As it’s Lego, we should be somewhere near the top. I’m in 5th 1.3 seconds off the WR and should be able to close that gap further. The times at the top are in good but not overpowered S1 class cars - no sign of a Bugatti EB110 at all - which I’d imagine would be extremely quick on this track.
