Rivals Challenge - FH5 Edition

Does anyone have any basic tips for MS?

Set fuel for required laps seems obvious.

ABS on or off?

Are soft tires the default when it’s not raining?

Is there a list of go to tuners? I understand it’s early days and many tuners aren’t focusing on this right now.

Maybe a stupid question but how do I know when to pit. What exactly am I looking for in the car icon in bottom right?

Idk what else to ask really lol

I started making a list of similar questions. Forza controller driving is the easy part, that’s very intact if not improved, and I can win races from 24th up to medium difficulty.

but I don’t understand actual racing at all, apparently, and I don’t trust the disembodied female voice, based on how dumb they are about things i do understand.

I actually wanna do a react video to the hand-holding intro, I was screaming and rolling my eyes when she started explaining the importance of balancing power/handling, mashing every button I could find on my elite core.

first screen should be “are you already a Forza player?” and YES trims about 40 minutes of fat.

this, specifically, has me baffled. I can’t really tell where I’m not supposed to go, lots of texture boundaries and patterns and colors stacked right up against each other. I’m actually colorblind, they changed a menu in horizon because I made a huge stink about it. but I think this is just my overall ignorance about race rules and etiquette.

btw I blew straight thru a chicane on one race and the gain was bigger than the penalty. that doesn’t seem right.

This lol. Here’s one chicane that goes down hill where you need to slow down massively to take it cleanly. But if you just drive over it you ultimately gain 2+ seconds after deducting the penalty lol…

the Subaru handles the dirt on the chicanes really well. AWD meta is intact :joy:

This video helped me to get started. It’s a bit rushed, but you get some basic knowledge about how to tune your car properly and other stuff.
Sooner or later Rayne might help us out with some sort of basic tuning guide, who knows

I could give a few basic tips for the build. Fine tuning will take time to identify the do’s & dont’s.

So far I always start with rear tire width which unlocks on level 2.
Race tires seem like the most important upgrade in the game. The PI system does not rate the different compounds.
For the Builders Cup and Rivals you can easily chose soft tires which boost performance at no cost.
For wet conditions there is the wet compound.
From at least A700 on you want to use aero which doesn’t impact top speed that much which isn’t needed anyways (except on Road America and of course Le Mans).
On 20 with weight reduction most builds are finished.
Try to squeeze race tires, weight reduction and aero into the class limit. Rest can go into brakes (the actual brake power increase barely costs PI, sports brakes already offer adjustment) or power.

Got #6 on S800 Maple and would get #2 on Suzuka with a power wiped 911 GT1 that’s all about grip. It only goes 260 km/h top. Would be faster with MC but I won’t bother with that clunky mechanic. I bet on it getting reverted to how it’s always been.

I just got a WR!!! Went off-road for 10 secs with no penalty lol. But on a serious note, that Maple Valley track is great.

I’m using the driving assists to tune stuff so it’s getting 8.5 segment scores on its own, consistently, it’s not a bad way to learn the physics, but unless I’m missing something I have to keep restarting the race, there’s no equivalent of free-roam tuning right?

this was such a nice surprise, brake balancing is a rare luxury in competitive horizon builds below S1. leading into turns with brakes is great in horizon physics, even more so in FM, glad it’s available even in low PI

#2 on Maple and #3 on Suzuka with a F1 GT. No chance against DJS’ glitched Ultima on Maple and the Vipers on Suzuka.
Seems like FM7 meta again.

A shame the CLK GTR and Speed 12 are missing.

So really you’re #1 on Maple which is my favourite track so far. Congrats

Hahaha another bug…

I did the beat 20 Rivals achievement very quickly on Eaglerock oval by continually doing intentionally slow laps and going slightly faster each time, after I am done I see who is currently #1 on that board and I do this…

But what I have ended up seeing upon finishing + returning to the menus 3 times now is this…

Still the last one of my intentionally slow laps is what is up on the board.

And it’s done it to me on the Club circuit as well, beat the current #1 time comfortably on the 2nd lap and my time on that board is the one from my standing start 1st lap instead.

I observed something similar yesterday where I went to paint car and it was applied to car but not updated in garage. Guessing they are still building the Refresh stuff from the ground up.

And just to complete the set I did it on the Club Reverse as well, the exact same thing happened.

Well this just takes the cake, Eaglerock Oval again this time in X class, I did obviously the standing start lap 1st, a dirty 2nd and a clean 3rd, so guess which one uploaded to the leaderboard?

None of them :joy:

About to do my first multi player race I think…

I spent 20 mins in practice which was fun but long, anyway I killed it.

Now I’m in some lobby waiting for cars that seems to be taking forever. Took 10+ mins to load???

Finally got into race and there were only 3 of us. Wasn’t much competition as I destroyed everyone by over 45s, good wee confidence boost.
