Hello,
First of all, I want to express my appreciation for the hard work Turn 10 has put into Forza Motorsport. We know the game’s launch came with many challenges, and sadly, some team members were affected by layoffs. I truly regret that, and I don’t think it’s fair for all the passion, dedication, and effort poured into this project to go to waste. Not just for us, the players who still believe in the game’s potential, but also for you—and for all those who are no longer at the studio but who left their mark.
I don’t think all is lost. On the contrary: there’s still time for a turnaround. Forza Motorsport has a strong foundation and has come a long way since launch. That’s why I’d like to share a concrete idea, based on my experience as an active player and as an organizer within the community. The goal is to refresh the Online mode, strengthen its competitive side, retain current players, and attract new ones—without the need for heavy investment in new content.
Online
- Online Overhaul: Rank and Category System
The first step would be a complete reset of player ranks. All players—regardless of experience—would start by completing three initial races using an accessible car (like the Ginetta GT5), with fixed tuning and setup, to ensure equal footing.
After finishing these 3 races, players would earn their New Rank License, which unlocks more powerful and challenging categories, such as:
From that point on, races in these categories would feature BoP balancing and free setups, giving players the freedom to adjust their cars while preserving competitive fairness.
- Ranking System and Win-Based Progression
To advance between ranks, players would need to achieve a set number of victories within their current tier. For example:
This encourages gradual improvement, rewarding skill and consistency—not just time spent racing. Additionally, fair play and sportsmanship would be considered, preventing dirty drivers from ranking up quickly.
If a lower-ranked driver wins a race in a higher category, their license could be automatically promoted, rewarding exceptional performances.
- Cross-Rank Participation and Fairness
To preserve balance and protect new players, the system would enforce the following:
A higher-ranked driver may join a lower-category race (e.g., Gold in TCR) only under specific conditions:
Must use fixed setup and tuning
Will be clearly marked as a different class within the session
Must respect the Rookie/Amateur experience
Will be penalized more harshly if responsible for an incident
There will be a cap of 6 cross-rank players per lobby, which is 1/4 of a 24-player grid. This ensures the category’s integrity isn’t compromised.
This system allows friends to race together across tiers, while protecting the competitive quality and fairness of each session.
- Skill-Based and Safety-Based Matchmaking
Matchmaking would be improved by pairing players based on:
Skill level (performance, wins, pace)
Sportsmanship rating (clean racing, incident frequency, etc.)
This ensures fairer lobbies and promotes healthier racing experiences for everyone.
- Informal and Casual Multiplayer Events
This new system wouldn’t replace more casual modes. Open Class, Spec Events, and other fun formats would still exist. The goal is to add depth to the competitive side, while keeping casual options open for everyone.
Each player could choose how to enjoy Forza Motorsport: casually or competitively.
- Necessary Improvements: BoP and Base Setups
For this proposal to succeed, two key changes are needed:
Better Balance of Performance between cars in each category
Improved base setups, especially for cars with locked tuning
Right now, many vehicles feel awkward or uncompetitive simply because of their default settings. Improving these would make the game more welcoming for new players and more enjoyable for everyone.
As the admin of one of the largest Spanish-speaking Forza Motorsport communities, I’d be happy to assist with feedback on BoP and setups to help with category balance.
- (Optional - Future Step) Monthly Ranked Championships
This is a more complex idea and could be implemented later—but it has great potential:
Once a player reaches a certain rank (e.g., Silver), they unlock the ability to enter monthly official championships.
These would consist of one races per week, at a fixed time (e.g., Sundays at 6 PM), across three lobbies spaced 20 minutes apart.
At the end of the month, players would earn points based on performance. The top drivers would win unique visual rewards, such as:
A golden name in lobbies
Exclusive car liveries or suits
Rare achievement emblems
These tournaments would give top players a long-term goal and prestige without needing to add money-based prizes or complex esports systems.
Final Thoughts
I understand resources are limited right now. But this game still has a lot of potential. The goal of this proposal isn’t to ask for expensive content or impossible features, but to reorganize what’s already there into a more structured, motivating, and rewarding online experience.
A well-designed rank and progression system could bring back competition, reward improvement, and increase long-term engagement. I truly believe Forza Motorsport still has the chance to stand out as the modern reference for structured simcade racing.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. With great respect and admiration,
