1978 Renha Formigão - a brazillian pickup that I THINK was based on a VW beetle…? and might have had multiple body styles, its hard to tell, I dont speak portugese.
carrying on from this, here are some trims, related body styles, and other bits of info I have found. if there are any brazillians more familliar with this vehicle, do chime in:
what would you even call this? an extended cab? trading bed length for cabin space? there are multiple of these so its not a 1-off
this youtube vid shows another one with a canopy and also shows that the interior of the extended cab allows for a bench seat. also features split windows in the rear
the front is where the fuel tank is, no storage space (not that it matters, its a pickup
interior pic, not sure if that dial on top of the dash is factory, may be aftermarket
engine bay, in the rear, featuring a VW Flat-4, one source claimed it was built using the 1.6, would make sense given it was the biggest of the original engine sizes, before larger ones were introduced a few years prior, but not sure brazil would have had a supply of those by then. Would also allow for the usual engine swap selection for the air cooled VW engined cars: subary engines, porsche engines, etc.
Wait, why does it look like a mini cybertruck?
a lot of people have noticed this, haha. This was built during the same era as the delorian, countach, etc, so that styling was just what things looked like (that the cyber truck has tried to copy)
clearly this is the real innovator lmao
