The implementation of cars having to be Homologized in Forza Motorsport 7 meant that some of the unique characteristics of cars were subdued or removed when they had to be brought up to a certain performance class. I think the way that Horizon matches cars based on the players choice of car and its performance index is the better option. I want to be able to keep my classic car stock on terrible tyres and slide all over the place!

But in Forza Motorsport its a whole other thing to race with a 2 tons car with monster engine aiganst a light weight one, comparwd to Horizon. The restrictions keeping the differences a little bit smaller.
But that’s the fun part, racing in different cars against each other. If you can’t win the upgrade feature comes in and you get the chance to make your car more competitive. Or you buy a faster one. The whole homologation system takes a lot of fun out of the game. Suddenly you’re racing your favorite cars but they make less power than they should. Or they’re tuned in some way but you can’t change it. Just let the player decide!

Both types of racing should be offered, as both have their merits.
“Run what you brung” is fine for having a good time with your friends and like-minded racers, but in a racing game, we need homologation, but it needs to work better.
With FM7, too often the “ceiling” of each homologation class was too low to allow some members of the class to be upgraded to where they could be competitive - the Porsche Cayman GT4 in Sports Coupe being one example. Bone stock, it is with just a few PI of the ceiling, 673 out of 675.
The homologation ceiling should better reflect what would be typical for someone taking a street car racing. Some weight reduction, better brakes and the spec tire at a minimum. Even better would be a ceiling where the previous could be accomplished, with enough left over a choice between adding power OR better suspension, for example. Raise Sport Coupe to 700 or even 725, and let’s go!
For a car that starts lower in the class, they now have room to get really racy with their build. Max weight reduction, race suspension and brakes, more power, maybe aero.

At least make the forced homologation be rental parts so I don’t have to ruin my OEM car just to do one race one time.
